Soualiou et al. cause of the important role they play in the traditional ceramic industry. These minerals are common in rocks and have found several applications in different industries [1]. Feldspathic fluxes can be used in a wide range of ceramic prod- ucts such as in wall tiles, floor tiles, sanitary ware and glasses [2]. They play the role of degreaser during the firing of shards of glass on the one hand and on the other hand, because of their chemical compositions (rich in K2O and Na2O) promote the formation of a vitreous phase at lower melting temperatures [3]. Consequently, the firing temperature of clay formulations containing a given pro- portion of feldspathic fluxes is considerably reduced, resulting in an energy gain. The world today faces the challenge of a high decrease in the supply of feld- spar from its main mineral deposits making it essential to find alternative sources of feldspar which is the second component of ceramic pastes [4]. In Cameroon, very little work has been carried out to identify the sources of feld- spathic materials that can be used in ceramic formulations. Research in this area has been those of a few authors, carried out on the syenite of Lala, nepheline syenites of Kribi and pegmatite of Penja [5] [6] [7], and on the Dschang feldspar mineral deposit [8]. These authors concluded that these deposits can be ex- ploited as potential sources of feldspar fluxes for applications in the ceramic and glass industry. Granitoids, pegmatites, aplites, alkaline and nepheline syenites are the main known sources of feldspar worldwide. The main sources of these rocks are given in Table 1. Among granitoids, granite constitutes an important source of feldspar [2]; granite exploitation opens up a field of research due to its abundance. The rocky bedrock of Foumban (West Region of Cameroon) consists of vol- canic rocks which, as a result of weathering have led to the establishment of sev- eral clay deposits [9] [10] [11] and of crystalline rocks such as mylonite, gneiss and granites which make up the Mayouom kaolin deposits [12]. The presence of these clay deposits in the area could favour the development of the ceramic in- dustry. However, little work has been done to determine the feldspar content of granite rocks from Foumban and their possible use as fluxing materials for ce- ramics. The aim of this work is to characterise the mineralogical, geochemical, petrographic properties of some granites from Foumban and to study their high temperature properties for their application in ceramic formulations. 2. Experimental 2.1. Sampling The three samples (LTP, LTS and LTMB) studied in this work were collected from Foumban, in locations where the main crystalline rock base lies. The sam- ples were taken from syntectonic granites, which are very rich in alkali feldspar phenocrysts and poor in mafic minerals. These rocks consist of perthitic micro- cline, plagioclases including albite and ferromagnesian biotite and amphibole minerals [13]. Characterization For mineralogical and geochemical analysis, the rock samples were crushed to 1 - 5 cm diameter using a hammer, ground in a ball mill and sieved with a 100 µm sieve. ABSTRACT The Kekem area (southwestern part of the central domain of the Cameroon North Equatorial Fold Belt) is composed of high-grade migmatitic gneisses in which two lithological units are distinguished: (i) a metasedimentary unit (garnet- sillimanite-biotite-gneisses and garnet-biotite-gneisses) interpreted as a continental series; and (ii) meta-igneous rocks comprising mafic pyroxene gneisses, amphibolites, and orthogneisses. These units recrystallised under HT-MP conditions (T=700-800°C, P ≥ 0.5-0.8GPa) and were deformed in relation to a major tangential tectonic event with the NNE-SSW kinematic direction. The lithological association and its tectono-metamorphic evolution show striking similarities with the Banyo and Maham III gneisses, suggesting that the extensional depositional environment envisaged for this formation can be extended farther west. P-T calculations in this contribution provide new data on the Pan-African structural and metamorphic evolution of the metapelites and metabasites in the basement of the Kekem area. The results show two distinct events: (1) crystallization during a Pan-African high temperature metamorphic event and, (2) subsequent deformation and high temperature mylonitization.

According to the World Travel Tourism Council, tourism is the first income-generating activity in the world. This activity provides opportunities for export and development in many emerging countries, thus contributing to 5.751 trillion dollars into the global economy. In 2010, tourism contributed up to 9.45% of the world GDP. This trend will continue for the next 10 years and tourism will be the leading source of employment in the world. While many African countries (Morocco, Gabon etc.) are parties to benefit from this growth, Cameroon, despite its huge touristic potential, seems ill-equipped to take advantage of this alternative activity. In Cameroon, tourism is growing slowly and is little known by the local communities which depend on agro-pastoral resources. The Bamiléké of Cameroon is an example faced with this situation. Nowadays in this region located in the western highlands of Cameroon, villages rich in natural, traditional or socio-cultural resources, are less affected by tourist traffic. This is probably due to the fact that tourism in Cameroon is sinking deeper and deeper into a slump, with the degradation of heritages, reception facilities and the lack of planning. In this country known as "Africa in miniature", tourism has remained locked in certain areas (northern part), although the tourist sites of Cameroon are not as limited as one may imagine.

A stratigraphic section of about 80 meters thick corresponding to 26 sites has been sampled, and it is composed mainly of fine-grained sandstones, clays, lignite, volcanic sediment and tuffs. A magnetic study conducted on 56 samples shows one or two components of magnetization carried either by titanomagnetite, magnetite and Fe-sulphide. The section that was sampled shows one normal polarity and one reversed polarity. In the lower part of the section, a K-Ar radiometric dating was performed on the plagioclase minerals isolated from the tuffs level situated about 15 meters above the lignite seam, and gave an age of 20.1 ± 0.7 Ma.

It seems that Bamileke Medumba stems from ancient Egyptian and is a root language for many other Bamileke variants. The Bamiléké languages, which are tonal, belong to the Grasslands Bantu Group of the Broad Bantu languages. Nearly every Bamileke kindom names its own dialect as a separate language. Bamiléké languages are not al-ways mutually intelligible between bordering kingdoms. The Bamileke are renowned for their skilled craftsmenship. Bamileke are particularly celebrated carvers in wood, ivory, and horn. Chief’s compounds are notable for their intricately carved door frames and columns. Much of the art produced by the Bamileke tribes are associated with NATIONAL AFRICAN royal ceremonies. Beadwork and masks are common in this LANGUAGE RESOURCE tribe. Even the king may put on a mask for an appearance at a CENTER (NALRC) Kuosi celebration which is a public dance held every other year as a display of the kingdom’s wealth.     Report Multi-Sector Rapid Assessment in the West and Littoral Regions Format Cameroon, 25-29 September 2018 1. GENERAL OVERVIEW a) Background What? The humanitarian crisis affecting the North-West and the South-West Regions has a growing impact in the bordering regions of West and Littoral. Since April 2018, there has been a proliferation of non-state armed groups (NSAG) and intensification of confrontations between NSAG and the state armed forces. As of 1st October, an estimated 350,000 people are displaced 246,000 in the South-West and 104,000 in the North-West; with a potential increment due to escalation in hostilities. Why? An increasing number of families are leaving these regions to take refuge in Littoral and the West Regions following disruption of livelihoods and agricultural activities. Children are particularly affected due to destruction or closure of schools and the “No School” policy ordered by NSAG since 2016. The situation has considerably evolved in the past three months because of: i) the anticipated security flashpoints (the start of the school year, the “October 1st anniversary” and the elections); ii) the increasing restriction of movement (curfew extended in the North-West, “No Movement Policy” issued by non-state actors; and iii) increase in both official and informal checkpoints. Consequently, there has been a major increase in the number of people leaving the two regions to seek safety and/or to access economic and educational opportunities. Preliminary findings indicate that IDPs are facing similar difficulties and humanitarian needs than the one reported in the North-West and the South-West regions following the multisectoral needs assessment done in March 2018.
