The Bears: Brown (0-2, 0-1 Ivy) ran into a Crimson juggernaut Saturday evening, falling to Harvard by a 53-27 margin in Boston, Mass. Junior quarterback Kyle Moreno (Pleasanton, CA), who threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more, paced the Bears.

The Rams: Rhode Island (0-4, 0-2 CAA) traveled to Orono, Maine and dropped a 27-17 decision to the Black Bears. Rams’ junior quarterback Paul Mroz threw for 234 yards, completing 17-of-39 passes.

Game #1 Bryant at Brown September 19, 2015 Providence, R.I. Bryant capitalized on five Brown turnovers, including four in the red zone, to earn a 17-13 win over the Bears in a battle of Ocean State teams at Brown Stadium. With first and goal at the Bryant two yard- line and 1:25 left on the clock, the Bears were unable to get into the end zone following a loss of 10 yards, two incompletions and an interception in the end zone. Brown’s offense outgained the Bulldogs by a 486-353 margin with Bears’ senior quarterback Marcus Fuller (Ashland, OH) passing for 403 yards, while completing 32-of-52 passes. Senior wide receiver Troy Doles (Saratoga, CA) had the best day of his career, making six catches for 147 yards, including an 83-yard touchdown reception. The Bulldogs were paced by quarterback Dalton Easton, who passed for 309 yards, while wide receiver Chad Ward made eight catches for 180 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, Brown senior inside linebacker Max Tylki (Wethersford, CT) made nine tackles, including two for a loss, while senior safety Zachary Gillen (Mt. Brook, AL) had seven stops. Brown struck first on an 83 yard scoring pass from Fuller to Doles, who caught the ball at the Bears’ 49-yard line and outran the Bulldogs’ defense into the end zone for the first score of the 2015 season, giving the Bears a 7-0 advantage. Dole’s 83-yard touchdown reception from Fuller is the third longest pass play in Brown football history. Senior Grant Senne (Winter Park, FL) extended Brown’s lead to 10-0 with a 20-yard at the 1:54 mark of the opening quarter. The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard and cut Brown’s lead to 10-7 on a 24-yard scoring pass from Easton to Ward with 4:14 left in the half. Bulldogs’ kicker Ricky Perez tied the game, 10-10, with a 37-yard field goal with just two seconds remaining in the half. Senne’s second field goal of the game, this time a career best 45-yard boot, gave Brown a 13- 10 third quarter lead with 3:59 remaining. Bryant used a little razzle-dazzle to take its first lead of the game on a wide receiver option. Torrey Dixon looked like he was running a reverse, pulled up and spotted a wide-open Ward at the seven-yard line. Ward did the rest of the work and got into the end zone to give the Bulldogs a 17-13 lead late in the third quarter. Another Senne field goal, this time from 23 yards, cut Bryant’s lead to 17-16 at the 10:44 mark of the fourth quarter. A 24-yard field goal by Perez with 3:55 remaining accounted for the final score.

Game #2 Brown at Harvard September 26, 2015 Boston, Mass. Brown ran into a Crimson juggernaut, falling to Harvard by a 53-27 margin before a crowd of 15,804 at Harvard Stadium to open the Ivy League season. The Bears fall to 0-2 on the young season, while Harvard improved to 2-0, winning its 14th straight game. The Bears, who haven’t won at Harvard Stadium since 1999, were held without a first down for the opening 20 minutes of the game as the Crimson built a 30-0 advantage. Junior quarterback Kyle Moreno (Pleasanton, CA) came into the game in a relief role midway through the second quarter and played well enough to get the Bears’ offense back on track. Moreno finished the game by passing for 307 yards overall, completing 20-of-31 passes, while running for two touchdowns and throwing for two more. Senior Brian Strachan (Wellesley, MA) led the Bears’ receivers with eight catches for 87 yards, while senior Troy Doles (Saratoga, CA) racked up 119 receiving yards. Crimson quarterback Scott Hosch saw all of his action in the opening half, completing 12-of-19 passes for 151 yards and three touchdowns. Tailback Paul Stanton rushed for a game-high 89 yards, all in the first half. Defensively, senior linebacker Will Twyman (Sudbury, MA), senior free safety Zach Gillen (Mt. Brook, AL) and junior outside linebacker Ryan MacDonald (Falmouth, ME) had big games for the Bears. Gillen had 12 tackles, Twyman 11 total hits and MacDonald 10 tackles. Harvard struck first, putting together a six-play, 61-yard scoring drive on its second possession, capped off by a 25-yard touchdown strike from Hosch to Jack Stansell with 9:12 left in the opening quarter. The Crimson opened a 14-0 lead when Sean Ahern sacked Bears’ quarterback Marcus Fuller (Ashland, OH), jarring the ball loose. Harvard linebacker Jacob Lindsey picked up the loose ball and ran into the end zone for the score. Harvard blocked a Brown punt at the goal line and a heads up Bears’ junior Brandon Davenport (Murfreesboro, TN) knocked it out of the end zone, preventing a Crimson touchdown, but giving up the safety to give Harvard a 16-0 advantage with 1:57 left in the first quarter. Back-to-back early second quarter touchdowns by the Crimson put the Bears in a 30-0 hole with 12:43 remaining. Moreno pumped some life into the Bears offense, entering the game at the 10-minute mark of the second quarter. Moreno guided the Bears to their initial first down of the game and drove the Bears down to the Crimson three-yard line before turning the ball over on downs. Harvard led 37-0 at the half and built a 46-0 advantage with 9:50 left in the third quarter. Moreno guided the Bears to its first score of the game with 8:03 left in the quarter, running the ball into the end zone from 11 yards out for his first career touchdown, capping a four-play, 59-yard drive. After another Harvard score that gave the Crimson a 53-6 lead, Moreno led the Bears to another touchdown. This time, Moreno scored on a 12-yard run late in the quarter to cut the Crimson lead to 53-13. A couple of firsts came on Brown’s next score with Moreno throwing his first career touchdown pass to sophomore Oliver Bucka (Menlo City, CA), who hauled in his first career TD pass and cut Harvard’s lead to 53-20 in the fourth quarter. Moreno connected with Doles on a 79-yard scoring play with 8:41 left in the game to pull the Bears to within 53-27 of the Crimson.
