  • TIP Openran: Toward Disaggregated Mobile Networking a Heavy Reading White Paper Produced for the Telecom Infra Project
Independent market research and competitive analysis of next-generation business and technology solutions for service providers and vendors TIP OpenRAN: Toward Disaggregated Mobile Networking A Heavy Reading white paper produced for the Telecom Infra Project AUTHOR: GABRIEL BROWN, PRINCIPAL ANALYST, HEAVY READING WHY OPEN, DISAGGREGATED RADIO ACCESS NETWORKS? Mobile networks serve more than 9 billion connections and generate almost $1 trillion in service revenue annually, according to research firm Omdia.* And with millions of cell sites deployed globally, this makes radio access networks (RANs) the most important distributed network infrastructure in the world. As operators enter the 5G era, the RAN is increasingly software-driven and based on open implementation and open interfaces. Some of the largest equipment vendors are migrating from integrated single-vendor systems to more modular, open platforms. In parallel, a new wave of challengers is adopting software-centric design principles to develop disaggregated, virtual RANs (vRANs) optimized for cloud deployment and operation. This paper profiles the work of the Telecom Infra Project (TIP) OpenRAN Project Group. TIP is an industry initiative focused on advancing open telecom networking through disaggregation, open interfaces, and the development of reference implementations. The TIP OpenRAN Project Group is one of the foremost open RAN initiatives in the industry. It is focused on collaborative working, reference implementations, interoperability, field trials, and developing pathways to commercial deployment of OpenRAN solutions. This paper identifies and explains the key achievements of the project group and looks ahead to the next phases of OpenRAN development. It places the work of the group in a wider industry context to illustrate how OpenRAN helps operators and the wider ecosystem advance their goals for low cost, high performance mobile connectivity.

  • Energy-Efficient ARM64 Cluster with Cryptanalytic Applications
Energy-Efficient ARM64 Cluster with Cryptanalytic Applications 80 Cores That Do Not Cost You an ARM and a Leg Thom Wiggers Institute of Computing and Information Science, Radboud University, The Netherlands [email protected] Abstract Getting a lot of CPU power used to be an expensive under- taking. Servers with many cores cost a lot of money and consume large amounts of energy. The developments in hardware for mobile devices has resulted in a surge in relatively cheap, powerful, and low-energy CPUs. In this paper we show how to build a low-energy, eighty-core cluster built around twenty ODROID-C2 development boards for under 1500 USD. The ODROID-C2 is a 46 USD microcomputer that provides a 1.536 GHz quad-core Cortex-A53-based CPU and 2 GB of RAM. We investigate the cluster's application to cryptanalysis by implementing Pollard's Rho method to tackle the Certicom ECC2K-130 elliptic curve challenge. We optimise software from the Breaking ECC2K-130 technical report for the Cortex-A53. To do so, we show how to use microbenchmarking to derive the needed instruction characteristics which ARM neglected to document for the public. The implementation of the ECC2K-130 attack finally allows us to compare the proposed platform to various other platforms, including \classical" desktop CPUs, GPUs and FPGAs. Although it may still be slower than for example FPGAs, our cluster still provides a lot of value for money. Keywords: ARM, compute cluster, cryptanalysis, elliptic curve crypto- graphy, ECC2K-130 1 Introduction Bigger is not always better. Traditionally large computational tasks have been deployed on huge, expensive clusters.

SearchOur overall rating gives you an idea of how much battery backup you can get on a single charge. An overall rating of 40h means that you'll need to fully charge the device in question once every 40 hours if you do one hour of 3G calls, one hour of video playback and one hour of web browsing daily. The score factors in the power consumption in these three disciplines along with the reallife standby power consumption, which we also measure separately.
