Joshua - Outline

Author: Traditionally, two possibilities exist. 1) himself wrote the book. 2) Samuel wrote it or was one of the editors who compiled the book for other documents.1 Date: It is likely that the original source was written early in Israelite history, sometime in the 1300s BC, and then edited later. Occasion: The record of the conquest of the land promised to Abraham and his descendants by God after the exodus from Egypt. Summary: There are basically four sections. 1) The entrance into the land; 2) the conquest of the land; 3) the division of the land among the tribes; 4) Joshua’s final remarks before his death.
