Abstract: The study was carried out in a 3 000m2 area of coastal Atlantic rain forest at Ilha do Mel island (25o30’’S 48o23’W), on 100 assorted trees separated into 2 meter-high strata starting from the ground. In each stratum all of the occurring epiphytic species were recorded. The sampled species were grouped into three categories: exclusive, preferential, and indifferent, according to their abundance in each strata, and selective, preferential and indifferent, according to abundance on the forophytes. Intermediate strata registered the high- est diversity. Six species were considered exclusive to one or two strata, 15 were restricted to some strata and 5 presented a broad distribution. No epiphytic species showed uniform horizontal distribution on the area. The epiphyte richness in a host tree varied from zero to 30. Regarding to fidelity on host tree species, few selective or preferential, and mainly indifferent epiphyte species, were found. A total of 82 epiphyte species were sampled in the surveyed tree, and the Wittaker plot indicate a highly dominant assemblage. Rev. Biol. Trop. 57 (3): 749- 759. Epub 2009 September 30.     Frugivoria por aves em ISSN 1981-8874 Alchornea triplinervia 9 771981 887003 0 0 1 6 2 (Euphorbiaceae) na Mata Atlântica do Parque Estadual dos Três Picos, estado do Rio de Janeiro, Brasil Ricardo Parrini¹ & José Fernando Pacheco¹ RESUMO: Foram observadas 32 espé- cies de aves consumindo frutos de Alchor- nea triplinervia (Euphorbiaceae) ao lon- go de 13 excursões, entre os anos de 2001 e 2003, empreendidas a duas áreas de Mata Atlântica do Parque Estadual dos Três Picos, sudeste do Brasil. As famílias Tyrannidae, Tityridae, Turdidae e Thrau- pidae destacaram-se pelo mais elevado número de espécies visitantes e por uma maior quantidade de visitas e de frutos con- sumidos. O cruzamento de dados, entre o presente estudo e trabalhos anteriores com Alchor- nea triplinervia e a espécie afim Alchor- nea glandulosa na Mata Atlântica do sudeste do Brasil, revela a importância de aves generalistas, onívoras e insetívoras, pertencentes a estas famílias na dispersão de espécies vegetais do gênero Alchor- nea. The Pampa biome, located in the southernmost state of Brazil, Rio Grande do Sul, illustrates the direct and indirect interdependence of humans and biodiversity. The Brazilian Pampa lies within the South Temperate Zone where grasslands scattered with shrubs and trees are the dominant vegetation. The soil, originating from sedimentary rocks, often has an extremely sandy texture that makes them fragile—highly prone to water and wind erosion. Human activities have converted or degraded many areas of this biome. In this review we discuss our state-of-the-art knowledge of the diversity and the major biological features of this regions and the cultural factors that have shaped it.

The aim of the present study was to report a new record of Lauriomyces acerosus growing on the litter of Lafoensia pacari in southern Bahia, Brazil. The collections were carried out from October 2018 to July 2019. Twenty fallen leaves were collected in different stages of decomposition. The leaf samples were carefully washed in running water and incubated in humid chambers. The structures of the fungus were assembled in PVLG resin and observed under a light microscope. The identification was carried out by specific bibliographies. And based on morphology, it was possible to identify the fungus as L. acerosus, a new report of this species for the American continents Keywords: Biodiversity, Lafoensia pacari, litter, taxonomy.
