Intro 1996 National List of Vascular Plant Species That Occur in Wetlands The Fish and Wildlife Service has prepared a National List of Vascular Plant Species That Occur in Wetlands: 1996 National Summary (1996 National List). The 1996 National List is a draft revision of the National List of Plant Species That Occur in Wetlands: 1988 National Summary (Reed 1988) (1988 National List). The 1996 National List is provided to encourage additional public review and comments on the draft regional wetland indicator assignments. The 1996 National List reflects a significant amount of new information that has become available since 1988 on the wetland affinity of vascular plants. This new information has resulted from the extensive use of the 1988 National List in the field by individuals involved in wetland and other resource inventories, wetland identification and delineation, and wetland research. Interim Regional Interagency Review Panel (Regional Panel) changes in indicator status as well as additions and deletions to the 1988 National List were documented in Regional supplements. The National List was originally developed as an appendix to the Classification of Wetlands and Deepwater Habitats of the United States (Cowardin et al.1979) to aid in the consistent application of this classification system for wetlands in the field.. The 1996 National List also was developed to aid in determining the presence of hydrophytic vegetation in the Clean Water Act Section 404 wetland regulatory program and in the implementation of the swampbuster provisions of the Food Security Act. While not required by law or regulation, the Fish and Wildlife Service is making the 1996 National List available for review and comment. -

Accepted 24 March, 2009 This paper presents the results of an assessment of the ethnobotanical uses of some plants recorded in upper Nyong valley forest implemented by the Cameroon wildlife conservation society project (CWCS). Forestry transects in 6 localities, followed by socio-economic study were conducted in 250 local inhabitants. As results, medicinal information on 140 plants species belonging to 60 families were recorded. Local people commonly use plant parts which included leaves, bark, seed, whole plant, stem and flower to cure many diseases. According to these plants, 8% are use to treat malaria while 68% intervenes to cure several others diseases as described on. There is very high demand for medicinal plants due to prevailing economic recession; however their prices are high as a result of prevailing genetic erosion. This report highlighted the need for the improvement of effective management strategies focusing on community forestry programmes and aims to encourage local people participation in the conservation of this forest heritage to achieve a sustainable plant biodiversity and conservation for future posterity. -

Se obtuvieron cuatro trazos generalizados, que unen las regiones siguientes: (1) Neotropical-Afrotropical (determinado por los géneros Amanoa, Caperonia, Conceveiba, Manprounea, Pogonophora, Savia y Tetrorchidium); (2) Australiana Templada-Australiana Tropical-Neoguineana-Oriental (determinado por los géneros Actephila, Baloghia, Choriceras, Petalostigma y Sauropus); (3) Australiana Templada-Australiana Tropical- Neoguineana-Afrotropical-Neotropical (determinado por los géneros Acalypha, Alchornea, Cleidion, Drypetes, Margaritaria, Microstachys, Omphalea y Phyllanthus); y (4) Neoguineana-Oriental-Afrotopical (determinado por los géneros Glochidion, Macaranga, Microdesmis y Shirakopsis). Dos trazos generalizados se superponen en la región Afrotropical, la cual es identifica- da como un nodo. It is best known under its Peruvian name Iporuru. The leaves are being used as a folk remedy against numerous symptoms associated with pain and inflammation. It has a reputation for being a tonic and booster of male libido. In this study, using a combination of chromatographic techniques, we isolated phenolic constituents present in leaves, and elucidated their structures using MS and NMR techniques. The isolated and characterized compounds were myricetin glucoside, myricetin galactoside, proanthocyanidin A1 and A2, epicatechin, gallic acid, shikimic acid, putranjivain A, elaeocarpusin and never before isolated methyl ester of repandusinic acid A. Frugivoria por aves em ISSN 1981-8874 Alchornea triplinervia 9 771981 887003 0 0 1 6 2 (Euphorbiaceae) na Mata Atlântica do Parque Estadual dos Três Picos, estado do Rio de Janeiro, Brasil Ricardo Parrini¹ & José Fernando Pacheco¹ RESUMO: Foram observadas 32 espé- cies de aves consumindo frutos de Alchor- nea triplinervia (Euphorbiaceae) ao lon- go de 13 excursões, entre os anos de 2001 e 2003, empreendidas a duas áreas de Mata Atlântica do Parque Estadual dos Três Picos, sudeste do Brasil. As famílias Tyrannidae, Tityridae, Turdidae e Thrau- pidae destacaram-se pelo mais elevado número de espécies visitantes e por uma maior quantidade de visitas e de frutos con- sumidos. O cruzamento de dados, entre o presente estudo e trabalhos anteriores com Alchor- nea triplinervia e a espécie afim Alchor- nea glandulosa na Mata Atlântica do sudeste do Brasil, revela a importância de aves generalistas, onívoras e insetívoras, pertencentes a estas famílias na dispersão de espécies vegetais do gênero Alchor- nea. Department of Botany, University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos, Nigeria. e-mail addresses: [email protected], [email protected], [email protected] *Corresponding author: [email protected], +2348029180930 (Received: April, 2013; Accepted: June, 2013) ABSTRACT This study was conducted using qualitative and quantitative morphology to characterise and group different representative species of the family Sapindaceae in Africa. The morphological characters used included leaf, stem and fruit. Essentially, the similarities among various taxa in the family were estimated. A total of 28 genera and 106 species were assessed. Members possess compound leaves (paripinnate, imparipinnate or trifoliolate); flowers are in clusters, fruits occur as berry, drupe or capsule and contain seed with white or orange aril. UPGMA dendograms were generated showing relationships amongst taxa studied. The dendograms consists of a single cluster from 0 57 % similarity coefficients suggesting a single line decent of the members of the family. At 65 % two clusters were observed with Majidea fosterii being separated from the cluster. Also, at 67 % similarity coefficient, two clusters were discerned separating the climbing forms from the shrubby forms. Paullinia pinnata was separated from the other climbing forms at 67 % while Allophylus species were separated into two clusters at 91 % similarity coefficient. The dendograms revealed that the family can be separated into eleven (11) clusters based on qualitative morphological data. A key to the identification of genera is presented in this work.
