When planning YPT's playbill programming it was impossible not to include James and the Giant Peach. In this fun, adventurous, musical story, lonely James finds an unlikely family under the most unusual circumstances. This fantastical tale reminds us that we are all connected. The new year at YPT is off to a great start: opening James and the Giant Peach; many sold out classes in our Winter Drama School; exciting initiatives in play development (including a new work for “walking babies” aged 12-24 months!); our second international writing program for teenagers; and wonderful “connected” moments happening in our community initiatives with newcomer and health agencies. Please visit youngpeoplestheatre.ca to see ALL the things we do at YPT. And in the meantime, enjoy James and the Giant Peach! ALLEN MACINNIS NANCY J. His own childhood experience served as the inspiration for many of his stories and characters. He first became interested in writing children’s books by making up bedtime stories for his daughters, which led to the publication ofJames and the Giant Peach (1961) and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (1964). An unbroken string of bestselling titles followed, including The BFG, Danny the Champion of the World, The Twits, The Witches, Boy and Going Solo. Matilda, Dahl’s penultimate book, broke all previous records for a work of children’s fiction, with UK sales of over half a million paperbacks in six months. His work has been translated into over 40 languages, and he won prestigious awards, including the Whitbread Award in 1983 for The Witches and the Children’s Book Award in 1988 for Matilda.
