THE GLORY GLORY SIAMESE LITTER by Tony Hurry

As a South Rabbitohs tragic for over 50 years, October 2014 has been a long awaited month for celebration!!! Yes my beloved team won the pinnacle of their sport by winning the Grand Final defeating the Canterbury- Bankstown Bulldogs 30 – 6. It’s their first title since 1971 and ended 43 years of heartbreak which in 2000 found them excluded from the NRL competition then after litigation and high-profile public campaigns, saw the club readmitted into the competi- tion for the 2002 season. The 2014 NRL Grand Final was the most-watched club game in the history of rugby league. The crowd of 83,833 was the largest attendance at a sporting event at since its 2001 reconfiguration. SO WHY AM I TELLING YOU ALL THIS………..BECAUSE I HOLD THE PEN To continue the week of Glory Glory, my 11th October birthday was celebrated with the birth of our Oriemme’s litter. She waited until 12.02am to have kitten one, three more in the hour then a five hours break before provid- ing two more in the seventh hour. Our USA import has not been the best of Mums and this was always to be her last litter prior to us having her desexed. Losing two (1 x stillborn and 1 x euthanased) this confirmed our deci- sion. Glory Glory again as one of the surviving babies is a female who will remain with us at Kalinya Siamese to contin- ue our journey of breeding these wonderful creatures. So the tragic that I am found no better way to celebrate the significance of the Rabbitohs historic and memora- ble victory than to name the litter in honour of some of its players. I therefore introduce to you :

BURGESS — in honour of the brothers Sam, George, Tom and Luke who were invincible (blue point male) SUTTON —Team Captain and as a Souths Junior, holds all time first grade games record (seal point male) for South Sydney INGLIS — “G.I.” is one of the genuine superstars of the NRL, An inspiration to (blue point male) so many both on and off the field MADGE GLORY GLORY — to celebrate this remarkable achievement of Rabbitoh’s Coach, (seal point female) Michael Maguire bringing Glory Glory back to Redfern in three short years since joining the club in 2012 .

And so ends my week of celebration……but after five decades of giving support to the Red and Green, my passion will live on long and hard to remind all those who will listen and even those who will not, that perseverance, dedication, loyalty and hard work in so many facts of our life will be reward- ed………

A Layman’s Guide to a Pure Siamese

The Pure Siamese Cat is a very old breed which comes in 4 Colours. Even though all Cats have 19 pairs of chromosomes, it is the Siamese that carries a gene known as the Himalayan Gene. This gene is also found in the rabbit and the mouse. It is a mutation at the C locus and it causes partial albinism. This gene is recessive to the full colour C gene. This means you need two doses of it (homozygous) for the Siamese (cs) colour to show up. The gene is heat sensitive, the cooler the area, the darker the colour , which explains why a Siamese has dark extremities such as the face, tail and legs. The body being the warmest part of the cat remains lighter in colour. You will notice your Siamese gets darker in the winter months, especially if you Eye Shape, colour, Siamese is an indoor/outdoor cat. Siamese cats are white at birth is due to being in the constant warmth of the mother’s womb. The First Mouse by Sharryn Hilton-Ferguson

They used to laugh and poke fun at me “Kerplunk, kerplunk,” a funny sound

They even called me a name It felt strange and had a weird taste I had never caught a mouse you see Having a ball tossing it around No mouse, to the house, ever came So back and forth with it I raced

Then one moonless night, quite late I caught a little devil with glee My humans rushed to see my feat I quickly pounced and sealed its fate I thought they’d applaud and clap But there was a surprise for me They laughed and called me cheat!

Just ‘cos it was in a mouse-trap The joy I felt was quite surreal ………………………... After waiting nearly seven years To finally catch a mouse for real This will stop those human sneers

One cat or two, an age old question

Is it better to have a pair. Should they much mischief is so much more be of same sex or not? Is the sole interesting for the owner. In fact, Siamese an unhappy cat? it is strictly up to the human how It’s an easy answer, Siamese are hap- many they want as their family py to be your sole companion, but members.
