In this paper, the hepatoprotective potential of gossitan isolated from the plant Gos- sypium hirsutum L. and getasan polyphenols isolated from the plant Geranium sanguineum with car- bon tetrachloride (CCl4) was investigated. Gossitane and getasan polyphenols have been studied comparatively with quercetin, a hepatoprotective property that has an effect on blood serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and total bilirubin levels in toxic hepatitis conditions.The experiments were performed on healthy male rats and CCl4-induced hepatitis model animals divided into 5 groups. Animals of the hepatitis model were given oral quercetin 50 mg/kg, gossitan 50 mg/kg, and getasan 50 mg/kg orally for 20 days. In healthy, hepatitis models and phar- macotherapy rats with plant compounds, changes in blood serum and ALT and AST enzymes and total bilirubin levels in the liver were detected.     1 Postmodernism and the Rest of the World I want to begin with a gloss on my title. In yoking together “postmodernism” and “the rest of the world” my purpose is to suggest both a connection and a disjunction: in other words, an uneven relationship, or a relationship struc- tured in asymmetry. Postmodernism is no more idiosyncratic or singular than the world is general or normal. Nor is it the case that there are two entirely hermetic worlds: the one postmodern, and the other “non-postmodern.”There is lots of travel and traffic among locations and what they represent; and post- modernism, for whatever reason, has taken on the imprimatur of the avant- garde; particularly when it comes to questions of theory and epistemology. At the same time, as postmodernism travels from its metropolitan “Western” origins to other sites and occasions, or is appropriated differentially by the minorities and feminists even within the West, its truth claims get “multi- historicized” and relativized with reference to “the Rest.” My title attempts to engage this overdetermined binarity between “the West” and “the Rest,” and in the process think through and (if possible) beyond it. The entire book is an attempt to critically “theorize” the unevenness of the global situation from a postcolonial perspective. In other words, “postality” is a condition that has to be contested and negotiated between the elite avant-garde and the sub- altern. It is all a matter for a “double-conscious” but agential and perspectival signification. For one thing, I am interested in delineating postcoloniality as a form of double consciousness, and not as an act of secession from the metropolitan regime.

Along with the reality that architecture in Ukraine evolved as a component of the European artistic movement, a distinctive architectural style was formed, based on the development of the traditions of folk architecture and ornamentation. This style produced much innovation in the shaping, decor, and ornamentation of buildings. Significant contributions to the development of architectural modernism in Ukraine were made by Opanas Slastion, Vasyl Krychevskyi, Yevhen Serdiuk, Oleksandr Verbytskyi, Serhii Tymoshenko, Oleksandr Lushpynskyi, Ivan Levynskyi, Dmytro Diachenko, and others. Ukrainian Art Nouveau architecture was represented by five main architectural styles: modernist, folkloric, rationalist, neo-baroque, and Vienna Secession. Due to an attainment of the possibilities embodied in the constructions, developed techniques, and in the design of interior space and external features — such as walls, roofs, doors and windows, columns and balustrades — this style formed its own expressive system, which included a significant number of socially significant types of buildings (dwellings, schools, hospitals, warehouses, government buildings, places of worship). The styles of Ukrainian architectural modernism have not exhausted their potential and may yet have a continuation in contemporary architecture and that of the future.

Looking through the prism of USSR national policy the article analyzes the reconstruction of Stalinist cities. The study is based on the visual analysis of the city landscapes of the capitals of 12 of 15 former Soviet republics. Focusing attention on the mechanisms and tools of the formation of the capitals of the Soviet republics, the strategies and tactics of the reconstructions carried out in these cities are discussed. As their result in the late period of Stalinist culture the creation of an ideological-visual narrative of a major Soviet city, consisting of a united “content of socialist realism” and local “national forms”, was completed. The conclusion is made is that mainly using plant and geometric ornaments of local folk art in the decor of the buildings of the socialist realism style, these capitals were “marked” in a specific way. However, although this aesthetic program allowed one to distinguish visibly these cities from one another, and to highlight some of the features of national cultures, however, the fostering of such narrowly understood and apolitical “folk character” at the same time restricted the possibilities of the Soviet connected nations to keep the abilities to preserve free and uncontrolled authentic expression of their cultures.

Built in the late 1920s, the avant-garde estates are the architectonic expression of specific ideals about everyday life and collective living for Soviet citizens. Exploring the avant-garde housing in their current post-Soviet setting, the thesis analyses the lived and social experiences of their residents in the mundane fabric of everyday life, against the backdrop of structural societal forces and the sweep of historical changes occurring in the built environment.
