Events

Release of Udyana Panchangam “Udyana Panchangam 2017-18” published by Dr.YSRHU with improved package of practices for all horticultural crops in telugu was released by Sri. N.Chandrababu Naidu, Hon’ble Chief-Minister of in the august presence of Sri. P. Pulla Rao, Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture and Horticulture, Sri. Chiranjiv Choudhary, Vice-Chancellor and other university officers during Ugadi celebrations at Vijayawada on 29th March, 2017.

NSS Advisory Committee Meeting

University Level NSS Advisory Committee Meeting was held on 27.03.2017 at International Guest House, Venkataramannagudem. Sri Chiranjiv Choudhary, Vice-Chancellor and Chairman of the com- mittee, Dr.D.Srihari, State NSS officer, NSS, Govt. of A.P, Dr. P.Rama Chandra Rao, Training Co-ordinator, N.A.D Pal, all the Advisory Committee Members, Associate Deans and Principals of constituent colleges have participated. NSS activities conducted during the year 2016-17, action plan for the year 2017-18, budget and other related issues were discussed.

Tribal Sub Plan Sri. Chiranjiv Choudhary, Vice-Chancellor along with Dr. R.V.S.K.Reddy, Director of Extension and Dr. M.L.N.Reddy, Dean of Horticulture and Sci- entists of KVK, V.R.Gudem visited Kollaigudem, Kapavaram, Thel- lavarigudem, Seethappagudem and Pandugudem villages on 18.03.2017 to monitor the activities of TSP Project and distributed the inputs viz., fish feed, poultry birds and ivy gourd cuttings to the tribal farmers. Education Experiential Learning Programme As a part of student READY programme, nine modules are functioning under Experiential Learning Programme (ELP) for Final Year, IInd semes- ter B.Sc (Hort.) students at College of Horticulture, Venkataramanna- gudem. Dr. M. Lakshminarayana Reddy, Dean of Horticulture, Dr.YSRHU and Dr. K. Umajyothi, Associate Dean, CoH, Venkataramannagudem vis- ited all the ELP modules on 23.03.2017, actively interacted with students and gave suggestions for the improvement of the respective modules.

Eleven ELP students were allotted to mushroom culture module at CoH, Anantharajupet. Spawn of milky and oyster mushrooms was procured from IIHR, Bengaluru. The production was started from 10.03.2017 at the department of Horticultural Plant Pathology and harvested 10 kgs of white oyster and pink mushroom production .

17th All Agricultural University Sports and Games Meet

Students of CoH, Venkataramannagudem, CoH, Anatharaju- pet and CoH, Parvathipuram accompanied by Dr. D.R.Salomi Suneetha, Assoc. Professor (Biochem), CoH, Venkataramannagudem and Dr. Syed Sadarunnisa, Asst. Professor (Hort.), Anantharajupet and two Physical Direc- tors have participated in 17th All India Agricultural Univer- sity Sports and Games Meet -2017 at CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar, Haryana from 25th- 29th, March 2017.

Exposure Visits

On 22.03.2017, Sri M.Satti Raju, Principal, and students of SKPP Horti- cultural Polytechnic, Ramachandrapuram visited Horticultural Research Station, Ambajipeta as a part of Educational Tour. Students were ex- plained about coconut cultivation and learned about coconut climbing machines, Intercrops in coconut orchards.

Dr. Ch. Ruth, Assoc. Professor (Pl. Path.), College of Horticulture, Ananthara- jupet visited mushroom unit of Mallisetti Madhavaiah at Venktrajupalli, YSR Kadapa district along with ELP – Mushroom culture students on 16.03.2017.

NSS Camp Special NSS camp was conducted by S.S.P.G. Horticulture Polytech- nic, Madakasira at R.Ananthapuram village from 16.03.2017 to 22.03.2017. The programme was inaugurated by Sri A. Lokesh Sar- panch. Dr. V. Ramana, Principal along with staff and students organ- ized different programmes viz., clean and green, new plantations, swatcha bharat, suggestions to farmers on horticultural crops, value added products preparation, kitchen gardening etc.,

Research Disease Survey and Medicinal Plant Collection

Dr.P.Rama Devi, Scientist (Pl.Path) & Head, Smt.P.Sunitha, Scientist (Ento) and Smt.D.Aparna, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, V.R.Gudem con- ducted survey in Tirupati and surrounding areas for collection and recording of pest and disease incidence in herbal plants from 24.03.2017 and 25.03.2017. Recorded leaf spots on four medicinal crops (Janakia arayalpathra; Coleus folskohlii, Cananga odorata and Stevia rebaudiana) and one phytoplasma disease on Angelonia grandiflora during survey and col- lected herbal plants like Rivenea humilis, Angelonia grandiflora, Baliospermum montanum, Strobilan- thes hamiltoniana, Gendarussa vulgaris, Pouzolzia zeylanica, Vernonia amygdaling, Buddaleja asiat- ica, Andrographis elongate, Stachytarphete jamaicansis, Glycyrrihiza glabra, Ghloropytum arundina- ceae, Breynia and Pouzolzia zeylanica.

Dr.P.Rama Devi, Scientist (Pl.Path) & Head, HRS, Venkataramannagudem surveyed for diseases on Medicinal and Aromatic Plants at RARS, ANGRAU, Chintapalli on 30.03.2017 and also collected planting material of the medicinal plants viz., Ocimum tenuiflorum, Rhamnus prinoides, Lithobates, Chromolaena odorata, Progopis cineraria, Curcuma aromatic, Curcuma caesia and Podophyllum.

Smt. P.Sunitha, Scientist (Ento.) recorded data on percent fruit damage due to mango fruit borer (Deanolis albizonalis) and recorded two species of fruit borers viz., Conogethus punctiferalis and Ci- tripestis fruitipeda in mango at Prakasaraopalem.

Extension Training Programmes

KVK, Pandirimamidi organized 3 days state level training pro- gramme on “Advances in Cashew Production Technology” from 21.03.2017 to 23.03.2017 sponsored by ICAR-Directorate of Cashew and Coconut Development Board, Kochi, Kerala. The programme was inaugurated by Sri. A.S.Dinesh Kumar, IAS, Pro- ject Officer, ITDA, in the presence of Dr. R.V.S.K.Reddy, Director of Extension, Dr.M.Lakshmi Narayana Reddy, Dean of Horticulture and Dr. G.Ramanandam, Principal Scientist & Head, HRS, Ambajipeta and Sri.T.V.Subba Rao, Project Director, APMIP, DDH, . Eighty Cashew farmers from Sri- kakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari and West Godavari districts have attended the programme. On 20.03.2017, KVK, Pandirimamidi started a 30 days vocational train- ing programme on “Tailoring- Basic Garment Making” from 20th March to 18th April, 2017 at Gandhinagaram village, Rampachodavaram mandal, with support from Andhra Bank Institute of Rural Development (ABIRD), Rajamahendravaram to support the tribal women SHG group members and rural women.

Sri G.Sandeep Naik, Scientist (Pl. Path.), KVK, Pandirimamidi attended one day training programme on “Pest and Disease management in cashew and mango” as resource person at Vanakarai vil- lage of Rajavommangi mandal organized by ATMA on 24.03.2017 and addressed the farmers on IPDM in cashew and mango.

KVK, Pandirimamidi organized six days vocational training pro- gramme on “Skills on maintaining bee hives and extraction of honey” from 31.03.2017 to 05.04.2017 with the financial support from RKVY . The programme was inaugurated by Sri.B.Srinivasulu, PHO, ITDA, Rampachodavaram. Miss S.Adarsha, Scientist (Ento.), KVK, Pandirimamidi explained the farmers about beekeeping.

Scientists of HRS, Ambajipeta conducted two six days skill training progrmmes for unemployed rural youth with the financial assistance of Coconut Development Board from 13.03.2017 to 18.03.2017 and from 20.03.2017 to 25.03.2017 at Horticultural Research Station, Am- bajipeta. During the training, imparted skills on climbing coconut trees with climbing device and scientific management of coconut.

Horticultural Research Station, Ambajipeta organized one day training pro- gramme on “Scientific management of coconut and cocoa” to forty farm- ers in collaboration with Indian Farmers Fertilizers Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) on 24.03.2017 and the scientists briefed about the latest produc- tion, protection and value addition technologies to the farmers.

Dr. K. Subramanyam, Principal Scientist (Pl.Path.) & Head, HRS, Mahanandi participated in farmers interaction meeting at Emboy village on “Cultivation of Mango” organized by Department of Horti- culture, Kurnool on 25.03.2017.

Dr. K. Subramanyam, Principal Scientist (Pl.Path.) & Head, Sri M. Tagore Naik, Scientist (Hort.) and Mr. N. Ramesh Naik, RA (Ento.), HRS, Mahan- andi organized farmers training programme on “Cultivation of vegeta- bles and species” under RKVY Scheme on 26.03.2017.

Dr. C. Madhumathi, Professor (Hort.), Dr. M. Raja Naik, Asst. Professor (Hort.) and Dr. K. Swarajya Lakshmi, Associate Professor (Hort.), CoH, Anantharajupet attended training programmes to the farmers organised by HRS, Anantharajupet on 22nd, 28th & 31st March, 2017 and delivered lectures on production technology of important cut flowers and pro- tected structures, types of gardens and garden features, special horticul- tural practices to be followed in commercial flower crops.

Sri. K.C.Bhanu Murthy, Scientist, (Hort.), KVK, Pandirimamidi attended a training programme on “Summer Vegetable Cultivation” on 31.03.2017 as a technical resource person at Kakinada and organised by Department of Horticulture under the supervision of Sri. Arun Kumar, IAS, District Collector, Kakinada.

On 16.03.2017 and 17.03.2017, Dr.T.Vijaya Nirmala, Scientist (Vet.Sci.), KVK, Venkataramannagudem attended a training programme on "Buffalo reproduction, nutrition & fodder management" as resource person at Buffalo Research Station at Venkataramannagudem.

On 22.03.2017, Dr.V.Deepthi, Scientist (Agrl. Extn.), KVK, Venkataramannagudem organized a train- ing programme to the farmers from Guntur district to equip with latest technologies in horticultural crops. In this programme, a total of 95 farmers have participated. Sri. M.Ravindra Babu, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Venkataramannagudem explained about the production of vegetable crops. Dr.V.Deepthi has explained the KVK activities and Dr.T.Vijayanirmala has explained the azolla and vermicompost production.

On 23.03.2017, Sri. G.Shali Raju, Scientist (Ento.), KVK, Venkataramannagudem conducted six days training programme on Bee keeping at ITDA, Kotaramachandrapuram under ICAR-TSP project enti- tled “Introduction of Apiary in tribal villages for enhanced income & economic security”. A total of 35 trainees have participated from Kamaiahkunta, Pandugudem villages.

Dr.R.V.S.K Reddy, Director of Extension attended a training programme on “Advances in buffalo production management” to the veterinary assistant surgeons of West Godavari district as chief guest on 24.03.2017 organized by Buffalo Research Station, V.R.Gudem at KVK, Venkatara- mannagudem. Dr.E.Karunasree, Sr.Scientist & Head, KVK, V.R.Gudem have also participated in the programme.

On 26.03.2017, Dr.K.Venkata Subbaiah, Scientist (Hort.), KVK, Venkatara- mannagudem conducted six days training programme on “Friends of coco- nut tree” at KVK, Venkataramannagudem. A total of 30 trainees were par- ticipated from Pothavaram, Nallajerla, Chodavaram villages.

On 27.03.2017, Dr.T.Vijaya Nirmala, Scientist (Vet. Sci.), KVK, Venkatara- mannagudem organized one day training cum exposure visit to thirty dairy farmers of East Godavari district who were trained on “Azolla production and hydrophonic technology”.

Dr. K.T. Venkataramana, Principal Scientist (Hort.) & Head, Citrus Research Station, Tirupati at- tended a training programme on “Naipunyatha shikshana karyakramam – Udyana thotalapai shikshana” along with the Director of Research , Dr. YSRHU at Horticultural Research Station, An- antharajupet on 20.03.2017.

Dr. D. Srinivas Reddy, Scientist (Ento.), Citrus Research Station, Tirupati attended a training Pro- gramme on “Chilli plant protection practices” at RHTI, Chittoor on 17.03.2017 and another train- ing programme on “Mango borers and semi loopers infestation” at Puttur market yard on 25.03.2017. Dr. M. Raja Naik, Asst. Professor (Hort.), CoH, Anantharajupet attended training programme to the farmers on “Pre – Kharif Sammelan” on 18.03.2017 at Madanapalle organized by KVK, Kalikiri and delivered a lec- ture on “Protected cultivation of flowers”.

Dr. P.Rama Devi, Scientist (Pl. Path.) & Head, HRS, Venkataramannagudem as resource person deliv- ered a talk on “Friends of Coconut Trees” to farmers organized by KVK, Venkataramannagudem on 27.03.2017.

Diagnostic Visits Dr.N.B.V.Chalapathi Rao, Senior Scientist (Ento.) and Dr. L. Ranjith Kumar, Scientist (Ento.), HRS, Ambajipeta carried out field diagnostic visit to Kadiyapulanka village of East Godavari district along with plant quarantine officials of Andhra Pradesh and Department of Horticulture officials for spiralling white fly infestation on 16.03.2017 and created awareness among farmers for its control.

Dr.N.B.V.Chalapathi Rao, Senior Scientist (Ento.), HRS, Ambajipeta carried out field diagnostic visit to mango garden on 18.03.2017 at Vedurupaka village, Gokavaram mandal, East Godavari district and observed severe thrips damage and suggested its control measures to the farmers.

Dr.N.B.V.Chalapathi Rao, Senior Scientist (Ento.), HRS, Ambajipeta carried out field diagnostic visit to Jagannathapuram and Rayakuduru villages of Veeravasaram mandal, West Godavari district and observed the incidence of slug caterpillar on 23.03.2017 and suggested its control measures to the farmers.

Sri M. Tagore Naik, Scientist (Hort.) and Mr. N. Ramesh Naik, RA (Ento.), HRS, Mahanandhi visited turmeric fields around Allinagaram village on 23.03.2017 and gave suggestions on harvest and post harvest aspects.

Dr. Ch. Ruth, Associate Professor (Pl. Path.), CoH, Anantharajupet visited betelvine crop in the farmer’s field at Chinavorumpadu village of Kadapa district and observed the foot rot disease incidence on 18.03.2017 along with MSc. Students of Hort. Plant Pathology department.

Vaccination Camp On 28.03.2017, Dr. P. Manjari, Scientist (Vet. Sci.) and N.Srividya Rani, Scientist (Ag.Extn.), KVK, Pandirimamidi conducted Vaccination camp against Fowl Pox disease in Poultry at I.Polavaram village of Rampa- chodavaram mandal. A total of 223 poultry birds were vaccinated against fowl pox which occurs seasonally and results in huge loss both in terms of morbidity and mortality.

Tribal Sub Plan

Dr. K Venkata Subbaiah, Scientist (Hort.), KVK, Venkataramannagudem vis- ited Kollaigudem, Kapavaram and K.R.Puram on 16.03.2017 and 22.03.2017 respectively and distributed ivy gourd cuttings, polythene mulch rolls to tribal farmers under ICAR-TSP project and also monitored the poultry shed preparation work.

Krishi Unnathi Mela

KVK, Pandirimamidi and KVK, Venkataramannagudem participated in Krishi Unnati Mela organized by ICAR-IARI at New Delhi from 15.03.2017 to 17.03.2017 and arranged a stall of Dr. YSRHU and ex- hibited chilli and cashew varieties, different value added products of palmyrah and posters showing different activities carried out by KVK, Pandirimamidi.

Technical Inspections

Dr. J. Dilip Babu, Director of Research visited Citrus Research Staion, Tirupati on 20.03.2017 and reviewed the progress of technical pro- gramme of research work and inspected the progress of civil works at the research station.

Workshops, Meetings and Trainings

Sri. M. Balakrishna, Assistant Professor (Soil Science), CoH, Anan- tharajupet and Dr K. Seshakiran, CoH, Venkataramannagudem attended 21 days CAFT training programme on “Advance omics tools and techniques for crop improvement” at Division of Bio -Chemistry, IARI, New Delhi from 8th – 28th March, 2017.

Er. P.C.Vengaiah, Scientist (FST), HRS Pandirimamidi presented a project on “Palmyrah pulp” at TRIFED, New Delhi on 24.03.2017.

Dr.L.Mukunda Lakshmi, Scientist (Hort.), Citrus Research Station, Tiruapti and Dr. B. Ramesh Babu, Scientist (Hort.), Horticultural Research Station, Venkataramannagudem attended training programme on “PGR Management in fruit crops” for the scientists of ICAR- AICRP on fruits from 22nd-25th, March, 2017 at NBPGR, New Delhi.

Dr. P.Rama Devi, Scientist (Pl. Path.) & Head, HRS, Venkataramannagudem attended State Level Screening Committee –XV meeting convened by the Chief Executive Officer, Andhra Pradesh Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Board at Amaravathi on 21.03.2017.

Farmer Exposure Visits

Farmers from Guntur district visited Centre of Excellence for Pro- tected Cultivation (CEPC) at University Head Quarters on 18.03.2017 and 27.03.2017. Sri.M.Ravindra Babu, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, V.R.Gudem explained about Automated plug type nursery and protected cultivation of vegetables and flowers.

Farmers from SPSR Nellore district visited College of Horticulture, Anan- tharajupet on 22.03.2017. Dr. M. Raja Naik, Asst. Professor (Hort.), CoH, Anantharajupet showed various flower crops in the farm and interacted on various protected structures, production of cut flowers, different propagation techniques in the commercial nursery to the farmers.

Fifty five farmers from Odisha along with Sri. Asit Baram Naik, ADH visited College of Horticulture, KVK, PHTRS and CEPC at University Head Quarters on 22.03.2017. Dr. D.V Swami, Principal Scientist (Hort.) & Head, PHTRS explained about functioning of fruit and vegetable process- ing unit of post harvest technology unit.

On 25.03.2017, Dr.E.Karunasree, Sr. Scientist & Head, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Venkataramannagudem organized one day training cum expo- sure visit to the horticultural farmers of Kalavacharla village, East Goda- vari district. Twenty farmers along with Smt. J.V.R.Satyavani, CTO, KVK, Kalvacherla visited KVK Farm and PHTRS. Dr. D.V.Swami, Principal Sci- entist (Hort.) & Head, PHTRS explained about the function of fruit and vegetable processing unit to the farmers.

Superannuation

Sri Mohammed Valli, Agricultural Workman, CoH, Anantharajupet retired on 31.03.2016 on attaining superannuation. Associate Dean along with staff members felicitated him on this occasion.
