N.Chandrababu Naidu, Hon’ble Chief-Minister of Andhra Pradesh in the august presence of Sri. P. Pulla Rao, Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture and Horticulture, Sri. Chiranjiv Choudhary, Vice-Chancellor and other university officers during Ugadi celebrations at Vijayawada on 29th March, 2017. NSS Advisory Committee Meeting University Level NSS Advisory Committee Meeting was held on 27.03.2017 at International Guest House, Venkataramannagudem. Sri Chiranjiv Choudhary, Vice-Chancellor and Chairman of the com- mittee, Dr.D.Srihari, State NSS officer, NSS, Govt. of A.P, Dr. P.Rama Chandra Rao, Training Co-ordinator, N.A.D Pal, all the Advisory Committee Members, Associate Deans and Principals of constituent colleges have participated. NSS activities conducted during the year 2016-17, action plan for the year 2017-18, budget and other related issues were discussed. Tribal Sub Plan Sri. Chiranjiv Choudhary, Vice-Chancellor along with Dr. R.V.S.K.Reddy, Director of Extension and Dr. M.L.N.Reddy, Dean of Horticulture and Sci- entists of KVK, V.R.Gudem visited Kollaigudem, Kapavaram, Thel- lavarigudem, Seethappagudem and Pandugudem villages on 18.03.2017 to monitor the activities of TSP Project and distributed the inputs viz., fish feed, poultry birds and ivy gourd cuttings to the tribal farmers. Education Experiential Learning Programme As a part of student READY programme, nine modules are functioning under Experiential Learning Programme (ELP) for Final Year, IInd semes- ter B.Sc (Hort.) students at College of Horticulture, Venkataramanna- gudem. Dr. M. Lakshminarayana Reddy, Dean of Horticulture, Dr.YSRHU and Dr. K. Umajyothi, Associate Dean, CoH, Venkataramannagudem vis- ited all the ELP modules on 23.03.2017, actively interacted with students and gave suggestions for the improvement of the respective modules. Eleven ELP students were allotted to mushroom culture module at CoH, Anantharajupet. Spawn of milky and oyster mushrooms was procured from IIHR, Bengaluru. The production was started from 10.03.2017 at the department of Horticultural Plant Pathology and harvested 10 kgs of white oyster and pink mushroom production . 17th All India Agricultural University Sports and Games Meet Students of CoH, Venkataramannagudem, CoH, Anatharaju- pet and CoH, Parvathipuram accompanied by Dr. D.R.Salomi Suneetha, Assoc. Professor (Biochem), CoH, Venkataramannagudem and Dr. Syed Sadarunnisa, Asst. Professor (Hort.), Anantharajupet and two Physical Direc- tors have participated in 17th All India Agricultural Univer- sity Sports and Games Meet -2017 at CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar, Haryana from 25th- 29th, March 2017. Exposure Visits On 22.03.2017, Sri M.Satti Raju, Principal, and students of SKPP Horti- cultural Polytechnic, Ramachandrapuram visited Horticultural Research Station, Ambajipeta as a part of Educational Tour. Students were ex- plained about coconut cultivation and learned about coconut climbing machines, Intercrops in coconut orchards. Dr. Ch. Ruth, Assoc. Professor (Pl. Path.), College of Horticulture, Ananthara- jupet visited mushroom unit of Mallisetti Madhavaiah at Venktrajupalli, YSR Kadapa district along with ELP – Mushroom culture students on 16.03.2017. Volume-III, Issue – 6 Dr.YSRHU e-Newsletter 16th —31st March, 2017 2 NSS Camp Special NSS camp was conducted by S.S.P.G. Horticulture Polytech- nic, Madakasira at R.Ananthapuram village from 16.03.2017 to 22.03.2017. The programme was inaugurated by Sri A. Lokesh Sar- panch. Dr. V. Ramana, Principal along with staff and students organ- ized different programmes viz., clean and green, new plantations, swatcha bharat, suggestions to farmers on horticultural crops, value added products preparation, kitchen gardening etc., Research Disease Survey and Medicinal Plant Collection Dr.P.Rama Devi, Scientist (Pl.Path) & Head, Smt.P.Sunitha, Scientist (Ento) and Smt.D.Aparna, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, V.R.Gudem con- ducted survey in Tirupati and surrounding areas for collection and recording of pest and disease incidence in herbal plants from 24.03.2017 and 25.03.2017. Recorded leaf spots on four medicinal crops (Janakia arayalpathra; Coleus folskohlii, Cananga odorata and Stevia rebaudiana) and one phytoplasma disease on Angelonia grandiflora during survey and col- lected herbal plants like Rivenea humilis, Angelonia grandiflora, Baliospermum montanum, Strobilan- thes hamiltoniana, Gendarussa vulgaris, Pouzolzia zeylanica, Vernonia amygdaling, Buddaleja asiat- ica, Andrographis elongate, Stachytarphete jamaicansis, Glycyrrihiza glabra, Ghloropytum arundina- ceae, Breynia and Pouzolzia zeylanica. Dr.P.Rama Devi, Scientist (Pl.Path) & Head, HRS, Venkataramannagudem surveyed for diseases on Medicinal and Aromatic Plants at RARS, ANGRAU, Chintapalli on 30.03.2017 and also collected planting material of the medicinal plants viz., Ocimum tenuiflorum, Rhamnus prinoides, Lithobates, Chromolaena odorata, Progopis cineraria, Curcuma aromatic, Curcuma caesia and Podophyllum. Smt. P.Sunitha, Scientist (Ento.) recorded data on percent fruit damage due to mango fruit borer (Deanolis albizonalis) and recorded two species of fruit borers viz., Conogethus punctiferalis and Ci- tripestis fruitipeda in mango at Prakasaraopalem. Extension Training Programmes KVK, Pandirimamidi organized 3 days state level training pro- gramme on “Advances in Cashew Production Technology” from 21.03.2017 to 23.03.2017 sponsored by ICAR-Directorate of Cashew and Coconut Development Board, Kochi, Kerala. The programme was inaugurated by Sri. A.S.Dinesh Kumar, IAS, Pro- ject Officer, ITDA, Rampachodavaram in the presence of Dr. R.V.S.K.Reddy, Director of Extension, Dr.M.Lakshmi Narayana Reddy, Dean of Horticulture and Dr. G.Ramanandam, Principal Scientist & Head, HRS, Ambajipeta and Sri.T.V.Subba Rao, Project Director, APMIP, DDH, Kakinada. Eighty Cashew farmers from Sri- kakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari and West Godavari districts have attended the programme. Volume-III, Issue – 6 Dr.YSRHU e-Newsletter 16th —31st March, 2017 3 On 20.03.2017, KVK, Pandirimamidi started a 30 days vocational train- ing programme on “Tailoring- Basic Garment Making” from 20th March to 18th April, 2017 at Gandhinagaram village, Rampachodavaram mandal, East Godavari district with support from Andhra Bank Institute of Rural Development (ABIRD), Rajamahendravaram to support the tribal women SHG group members and rural women. Sri G.Sandeep Naik, Scientist (Pl. Path.), KVK, Pandirimamidi attended one day training programme on “Pest and Disease management in cashew and mango” as resource person at Vanakarai vil- lage of Rajavommangi mandal organized by ATMA on 24.03.2017 and addressed the farmers on IPDM in cashew and mango. KVK, Pandirimamidi organized six days vocational training pro- gramme on “Skills on maintaining bee hives and extraction of honey” from 31.03.2017 to 05.04.2017 with the financial support from RKVY . The programme was inaugurated by Sri.B.Srinivasulu, PHO, ITDA, Rampachodavaram. Miss S.Adarsha, Scientist (Ento.), KVK, Pandirimamidi explained the farmers about beekeeping. Scientists of HRS, Ambajipeta conducted two six days skill training progrmmes for unemployed rural youth with the financial assistance of Coconut Development Board from 13.03.2017 to 18.03.2017 and from 20.03.2017 to 25.03.2017 at Horticultural Research Station, Am- bajipeta. During the training, imparted skills on climbing coconut trees with climbing device and scientific management of coconut. Horticultural Research Station, Ambajipeta organized one day training pro- gramme on “Scientific management of coconut and cocoa” to forty farm- ers in collaboration with Indian Farmers Fertilizers Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) on 24.03.2017 and the scientists briefed about the latest produc- tion, protection and value addition technologies to the farmers. Dr. K. Subramanyam, Principal Scientist (Pl.Path.) & Head, HRS, Mahanandi participated in farmers interaction meeting at Emboy village on “Cultivation of Mango” organized by Department of Horti- culture, Kurnool on 25.03.2017. Dr. K. Subramanyam, Principal Scientist (Pl.Path.) & Head, Sri M. Tagore Naik, Scientist (Hort.) and Mr. N. Ramesh Naik, RA (Ento.), HRS, Mahan- andi organized farmers training programme on “Cultivation of vegeta- bles and species” under RKVY Scheme on 26.03.2017. Dr. C. Madhumathi, Professor (Hort.), Dr. M. Raja Naik, Asst. Professor (Hort.) and Dr. K. Swarajya Lakshmi, Associate Professor (Hort.), CoH, Anantharajupet attended training programmes to the farmers organised by HRS, Anantharajupet on 22nd, 28th & 31st March, 2017 and delivered lectures on production technology of important cut flowers and pro- tected structures, types of gardens and garden features, special horticul- tural practices to be followed in commercial flower crops.     District Survey Report - 2018 1. Salient Features of East Godavari District East Godavari District which is one of the largest and the most populous district in the state of Andhra Pradesh, was successively ruled by Mauryas, Sathavahanas, Vishnu Kundins, Eastern Chalukyas, Cholas, Kakatiyas, Musunuri Chieftains, Kondaveeti Reddy Kings, Gajapathis, Kutubshahis and then by the British. It was under the Raj. On April 15, 1925, East Godavari District was formed as per G.O.No.502. East Godavari is the richest district of the state, in terms of GDP. It is both the cultural and tourist hub of the state. East Godavari is a district in Coastal Andhra region of Andhra Pradesh, India. Its district headquarters is at Kakinada. As of Census 2011, it became the most populous district of the state. Rajahmundry and Kakinada are the two large cities in the Godavari districts in terms of population. The district of Rajahmundry (present name Rajamahendravaram) was reorganised in 1859 into two districts of Godavari and Krishna. Godavari District was further bifurcated into East and West Godavari districts in 1925. After Nov 1956, Andhra Pradesh was formed by combining parts of Naizam, Ceded and Circars. In 1959, the Bhadrachalam revenue division, consisting of Bhadrachalam and Naguru Taluqs (2 Taluqas in 1959 but later subdivided into Wajedu, Venkatapruram, Charla, Dummugudem, Bhadrachalam, Nellipaka, Chinturu, Kunavaram, and Vara Rama Chandra Puram mandals) of East Godavari district were merged into the Khammam district. After June 2014's reorganisation and division of Andhra Pradesh, the Mandals of Bhadrachalam (with the exception of Bhadrachalam Temple), Nellipaka, Chinturu, Kunavaram and Vara Rama Chandra Puram were re-added to East Godavari District.

Bhagavan Horticultural Research Station, Ambajipeta 533 214 Drysrhu, East Godavari district, A.P, India Corresponding author: [email protected] The coconut crop is mainly confined to the four southern states of India, accounting for 90% of the area under coconut, among which Andhra Pradesh shares about 1.15 lakhs ha area with a production of 1,377.53 m nuts. Recently, an invasive rugose spiraling whitefly (RSW), Aleurodicus rugioperculatus Martin (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae) has entered India and has been reported on coconut palm (Cocos nucifera L.) for the first time during August-September, 2016 at Pollachi taluk, Coimbatore district in Tamil Nadu and Palakad taluk in Kerala (Sundararaj and Selvaraj, 2017). In Andhra Pradesh it was first reported at Kadiyam nurseries during December 2016 (Chalapathi Rao et al., 2020) probably entering Andhra Pradesh through infested coconut seedlings obtained from Kerala. The RSW was initially reported from Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States of America from gumbo limbo, Burera simaruba (L.) as a pest. However, it was originally described from Belize in 2004 on coconut (Martin, 2004) where its natural population was reported. As per the Department of Horticulture, Government of Andhra Pradesh statistics in February 2019 the coconut and oil palm plantations of East and West Godavari districts of Andhra Pradesh had a severe (more than 30 spirals/leaflet) incidence of this pest.
