3 4 5 6 7 8 President Mary Sawyer

On behalf of the NYSCMA, Inc. Officers and Directors, it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to our 8th Annual Sales & Marketing Conference. I would also like to note that this Conference marks the 99th year that State Circulation Executives have gathered. We are excited to be gathering in beautiful Canandaigua for this year’s “Charting a Course for Success”. Once again, the blended NYSCMA, Inc. and NYNAME Conference Committee have put togeth- er a very robust and diverse agenda. We’ll be starting off the program Sunday evening with our Presi- dent’s reception aboard the Canandaigua Lady. The boat launch is located at 205 Lakeshore drive, and is just a short walk from the Conference center. It’s a great networking opportunity, in addition to a beau- tiful tour of Canandaigua Lake. We move into a full schedule on Monday with New Media Investment Group’s Michael Reed discussing the value in Newspapers and their focus on digital/local content and advertising. Many Breakout sessions are on tap for this first day as well, most notably are the Zinser Firm discussing Legal Issues in Newspapers which was a very informative and engaging session last year, an Alliance for Au- dited Media update from AAM Senior Manager Diane Szubrych in addition to Hot Ideas session, and the Circulation Roundtables. We finish Monday with our Awards Banquet and Presentations under the tent overlooking the lake. Tuesday we have a half day, starting out with The Host Newspaper Panel, an Newspaper Association of America update with NAA VP of Audience Development John Murray fol- lowed by Owen Van Essen, President of the newspaper merger and acquisition firm Dirks, Van Essen and Murray, speaking to why newspapers are still a valuable part of the business world and their respec- tive local communities. We’re glad that you could join us. This conference promises to send you away with at least one idea that you can take back to your newspaper and turn it into additional sales and revenue. Many have worked tirelessly to ensure just that. I would like to extend a personal thanks to Charmaine Ushkow, President of NYNAME, as well as the remaining members of the Conference Planning Committee. I also want to extend a special thanks to Don Ferlazzo of the New York News Publishers Associa- tion. His tireless efforts to assist both organizations in putting this conference together must be recog- nized. Thanks to you all! I would also be remiss if I did not extend a special Thank You to our Associate Members and Sponsors. Their support is always appreciated. Please take the time to visit them in their booths and see what they have to offer. And finally, a Thank You to Michelle Giorgianni for putting this Buyer’s Guide together this year. It will be a valuable resource you’ll be sure to keep on your desk and use throughout the year. Enjoy the Conference!
