November 19, 2018 Lausanne, SUI ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Rostelecom Cup, Day One Olympic Champions Yuzuru Hanyu (JPN) and Alina Zagitova (RUS) as well as World Pairs silver medalists Evgenia Tarasova/Vladimir Morozov dominated the first day of competition at Rostelecom Cup in Moscow, Russia on Friday. Alexandra Stepanova/Ivan Bukin (RUS) won the Rhythm Dance. The Rostelecom Cup is the fifth event of the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series 2018/19. Yuzuru Hanyu (JPN) poised for gold Two-time Olympic Champion Yuzuru Hanyu of Japan dominated the Men’s Short Program to leave him poised for his second Grand Prix gold medal this season. Morisi Kvitelashvili of Georgia sits in a surprise second place followed by Sweden’s Alexander Majorov as some medal hopefuls faltered. Hanyu opened his performance to “Otonal” by Raul di Blasio with a big quadruple Salchow and followed up with a triple Axel, a quad toe-triple toe combination and level-four spins and footwork. His numerous fans at the sold out Megasport Arena showered the ice with Winnie-the-Pooh toys and other gifts. The two-time World Champion earned a season’s best with 110.53 points and has a comfortable lead heading into the Free Skating on Saturday. “I am satisfied with my performance. I can’t say it was perfect, especially not the quad toe-triple toe. But I am happy I got a level four for each element and the GOE (grade of execution) for the triple Axel and the quad Salchow was really good,” Hanyu said.

  • ISU World Figure Skating Championships 2021 Stockholm
March 27, 2021 Stockholm, SWE Nathan Chen (USA) jumps to third World title Nathan Chen (USA) came from behind to soar to his third consecutive World title at the ISU World Figure Skating Championships in Stockholm (SWE) on Saturday. Newcomer Yuma Kagiyama of Japan claimed the silver medal while two-time Olympic Champion Yuzuru Hanyu of Japan settled for the bronze. Chen, who stood in third following the Short Program, laid down a perfect performance to music by Philipp Glass, reeling off five quadruple jumps – Lutz, flip, Salchow as well as two toes, three of them in combinations. He also threw in a triple Axel and a triple Lutz as well as level-four spins and footwork to score 222.03 points. The five-time U.S. Champion racked up 320.88 points for a runaway victory with almost 30 points to spare. “It’s amazing; the fact that I’m able to be here at this World Championship after that unprecedented year - I’m very happy to be here. I’m very elated right now”, the now three-time World Champion commented. “I just didn't want to lose that (quad) Lutz again. I had struggled on it a little bit at Nationals as well to start off my free program (he fell out) and I always don't like starting with an error; it's hard to regroup after that. My intent was 'hit the Lutz, move on.' In theory I can come back, but realistically I know these guys are going to lay (it) down (and I wanted) to be able to leave this competition satisfied with how I skated in the free.

Andrei Mozalev, the leader going into the free programme, had to settle for silver. His compatriot Daniil Samsanov won bronze. Kagiyama had been third after the short programme, and admitted nerves had got the better of him, but his brilliant free routine saw him overhaul a seven point deficit to claim gold.
