WEST SOMERSET STRATEGIC HOUSING LAND AVAILABILITY ASSESSMENT Developable Sites Appendix E Please note: All the sites submitted in between 2016 and 2020 were subjected to a full site assessment as outlined in the Stage 2 of the Methodology, this determined whether the site was deemed deliverable, developable or non-developable. The assessment sheets are included alongside a location map for each deliverable and developable site in the following chapters. Any sites that were carried forward to this 2020 publication from the previous SHLAA have not been reassessed in such detail as they were subject to a similar process when they were first submitted. Their assessment tables have been updated to take account of the latest definitions of deliverable and developable in the February 2019 NPPF and reflect any relevant information update provided by the landowner. I have a great deal of concern that my area that has been bundled in with a large area of the town centre. When yo7 leave the town and start down South Road there is a feeling of leaving the town as you go over the slight rise and pass Tauntfield (not Tauntfield Close, Tauntfield is past Tauntfield and set back from the road.) Killams and Mountfields has an established residents association, all be it a bit up and down depending on what is going on! It has its own community around our local shops and post office which are all strongly supported, there is a feel of a suburb, a feeling of being outside of town. I am happy that the roads in Trinity area are returning to what was Eastgate ward, there only moved across a few years ago and the area has not managed to build any links across as they look to Eastgate as their community.

PRESENTATION BY COUNTY AND DISTRICT COUNCILLOR: Somerset County Councillor report: Somerset County Councillor Mrs Lawrence thanked the Parish Council for inviting her. She thanked the Parish Councillors for all their hard work during the year. Bicknoller is a very busy village and there is a lot for the Parish Council to do and plan for, my grateful thanks to each one of them. The County Council has had a very busy year. Finance was a major concern at the start of the year, we had to make cuts in most of our services except our children’s work. However, with careful planning, many difficult decisions, some reduction in staffing, we balanced our books for 2019. We have been able to put further funds into children’s services to meet the ever increasing need. We are always looking to recruit more foster parents that can give a caring home to a child or children that for whatever reason cannot live with their birth parents.

  • Greswell, W H P, the Quantocks and Their Place-Names, Part II, Volume 46
De duantocks ana tfjeir BY WILLIAM H. P. GRESWELL. etymology of the Place-name, Quantock, anciently THEwritten Cantok, is an interesting but rather elusive " it full study. Some have derived from Gwantog," i.e., of " " openings or combes. Some have regarded Cant-ioc as a " " little in diminutive, meaning headlands ; Dr. Pring his " Briton and Roman on the site of Taunton," has suggested " " hill Cuan," Gaelic for hill, and Toich," country, i.e., the " country : some have playfully mentioned the old Quantum ab hoc," but no one, as far as I know, seems to have thought that Cantok, like Caer Caradoc, may have been named from a person. Crantock in Cornwall, and also in Cardigan is named from Carantacus, and this Saint, a contemporary of King Arthur, is connected with Carhampton according to Leland. At any rate, Carantacus was known under the Quantocks, and, if we desire to speculate, there is no reason why that well-known stone on Winsford Hill should not commemorate Carantacus. To come to more solid facts and documents, perhaps the ear- liest mention of Cantok is in the composite word Cantucudu, i.e., Cantok Wood, in Centwine's famous West Monkton Charter, " when he gave twenty-three mansiones to Glastonbury in loco juxta silvam famosam quae dicitur Cantucudu." This is dated A.D. 682, and the light it gives us is interesting. The fame of 126 Papers^ -c. this Cantok Wood, and of its goodly trees, was already known. The Charter of C entwine was subsequently confirmed by King Ina, the Saxon prince, who figures so largely in our local annals.
