PRCUA Supports Participation in World Youth Day

Chicago, IL – The Polish Roman Catholic Union of America is proud to announce its support of PRCUA youth who will participate in the 2016 World Youth Day (WYD). To encourage participation in this momentous event, the PRCUA has established a stipend of $100 for any member of the PRCUA between the ages of 13 and 21 years who will be attending the World Youth Day. Any PRCUA member of this age group who wishes to receive a stipend is required to submit the application below – before leaving for Poland - to verify their PRCUA membership of 2 years or more, with a minimum of a $5,000 life insurance certificate. The stipend will be mailed to the individuals upon his/her return from the WYD Conference, after the participant submits proof of attendance to the PRCUA. PULASKI DAY (Continued from pg. 1) on the “For your freedom and ours” slogan and spoke about how it can be applied in today’s world - politics, economic cooperation, cultural and educational exchange, military alliances - to mitigate conflicts and build a common future for many nations. Mayor Rahm Emanuel remarked about the long history and the vision of ideals of freedom shared between the people of Poland and the U.S. and how the lives of many Polish people and the history of Chicago are intertwined. He also commented that the U.S. - by not granting Poland admission to the Visa Waver Program - is being unfair and unjust to Polish citizens, who are being treated as second-class citizens. U.S. Representative Bob Dold also addressed the issue of the Visa Waver Program, stating that it is vital to open doors for the U.S. friends and allies and to help Polish citizens to be able to freely travel to the U.S. PAC and PNA President Frank Spula remarked about how Polish-Americans are benefiting from what Pulaski had done to secure justice and liberty and how proud the Polish community should be of its history and culture. He also encouraged Polonia to become more engaged in political life in the U.S. Judge Aurelia Pucinski also emphasized the importance and need of American Polonia to participate in the political life. She acknowledged the veterans present at the event for sharing the same values as Casimir Pulaski and thanked them for taking an active part in securing our freedom and independence. Offical Proclamation from Illinois Judge Timothy Evans praised Pulaski for his gallantry, brilliance, courage, and Governor Bruce Rauner expertise and the Polish community for sharing the same values at present times. He remarked that there are many Polish-Americans who serve as judges and in other judicial capacities, and asked the ones present at the ceremony to stand up and be acknowledged. Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County Dorothy Brown expressed how honored she was to be able to celebrate the great General whose determination and courage represent the universal ideals of resistance to oppression. Inna Murray, PNC Bank Executive Vice President, assured Polonia of PNC’s continued support for the Polish Museum of America. A wreath of red and white flowers was laid at the “Pulaski at Savannah” painting by Consul Robert Rusiecki, Pres. Jessica currently teaches 7th and 8th Grade Science at Carleton Middle School in Sterling Heights, MI. Jessica graduated from Wayne State University with her Bachelor Degree in Exercise Science and a Master’s Degree in Secondary Education. Upon the receipt of her award as “Teacher of the Year”, Jessica is Jessica Wendt nominated for the Macomb County “Teacher of the Year” Award. Jessica is a long- time member of the Wawel Folk Ensemble and Kolo Goralski #4 Morskie Oko and is very active within the Polish American community. She is married to Benjamin Wendt and they have two beautiful children, Lukasz and Lucyna. In her spare time, Jessica enjoys playing a variety of sports, coaching, playing the violin, and traveling. Felicia J. Krupinski (nee Ostry), age 93, passed away on March 18, 2016 in Wood Dale, IL. She was the wife of late Richard Krupinski and mother of the late Renee (Krupinski) Lameka. Felicia was extremely proud of her Polish heritage and belonged to many Polish-American organizations: Knights of Dombrowski (Board Member), Legion of Young Polish Women, Polish Women Civic Club (past President), Polish Arts Club and Polish Women Alliance. She was a Life Member of the Polish Museum of America, where she loved to tirelessly volunteer her time. Felicia was a happy, up-beat woman who enjoyed playing the role of Mrs. Santa Claus at the PMA Christmas events. She was laid to rest on Saturday, March 26 at St. Adalbert Cemetery in Niles, IL. Theresa L. Cwiek 1921-2016 Higher Perspectives The PRCUA is deeply saddened by the loss of Theresa L. (nee Ploski) Cwiek who died on Monday, March 14, 2016 in Mount Pleasant, MI. Theresa was born on April 1, 1921 in Hamtramck, MI. She was the daughter of the late Kazimierz and Stanislawa (Olesczynski) Ploski. In 1930 she moved with her family to Poland. Theresa was arrested by the "Living the Easter Season" Nazis in 1941 and imprisoned in several places.
