From the Executive Director Dear Friends of The Catholic Foundation,

e are so pleased to present the July 2012 – June 2013 annual report for your review. W For the past forty years, we have seen tremendous growth in The Foundation. Cur- rently we manage 345 trusts, 40 insurance policies, 3 Charitable Gift Annuities and $18 million in assets. First, we would like to thank all those who have supported The Foun- dation this year by donating to an existing trust, beginning a trust, memorial and honorary gifts, and annual membership. We would also like to thank our Board of Directors as well as those who have served on our committees for giving their time, talent and expertise to help the Foundation grow.

We would like to say thank you to our Director, Bishop Joseph Latino and our Presi- dent, Chuck Adams. Bishop Latino is retiring after 10 years and Chuck Adams is stepping down as President after 21 years. With their leadership, we have grown our assets from $2 million to $17 million. We have increased our trusts from 108 to 345. We have also seen our annual membership grow to over 700 members each year. We truly appreciate all of their efforts and leadership through the years.

We would also like to give a warm welcome to our new President, Joe Rice. Joe has been in the investment business for the past 29 years. He currently is the Managing Director of Investments at Raymond James. Joe has been a member of the Board of Directors since 1991. He has served on the Investment, Nominating, and Member- ship Committees. Joe and his wife Madelyn have helped to establish three trusts with The Foundation and they are Lifetime members. Actually, it was at Joe’s family kitchen table with his parents, uncle and Bishop Brunini that talk of starting a Catholic Foundation for our diocese began. Forty years later, we are so excited that Joe has agreed to take on the leadership role and continue the legacy of The Foundation.

As you review the annual report, you will see the commitment of our leaders and our dedication and com- mitment to preserving and growing the assets entrusted to The Foundation. Our goal is to remain focused on the growth of the trust funds, to the individuals who started these funds, as well as to the beneficiaries who rely on the distributions each year.

The Foundation staff and Board of Directors are grateful for the support you have given to us this year. We are always here if you have questions on membership or getting a trust fund started. We look forward to hearing from you.

As you can see from this report many people have chosen to start a trust for their parish or school. We invite you to call or visit The Catholic Foundation offices to see how you can start a trust and leave a legacy that will make a difference for genera- tions. It is a simple and easy process.

First Determine how much you wish to invest in the future of your parish through a trust. Second Designate the purpose of your trust. Third Call The Catholic Foundation staff to begin the process. Below is a sample of a trust.

NAME OF TRUST WHEREAS, on this the ____ day of ______, 20__, a gift of (minimum of $1,000) dollars, is being made to the Catholic Foundation of the Diocese of Jackson, Mississippi, Inc. in memory (honor) of (you determine) by [benefactor name (s)] and, WHEREAS, it is the desire of said contributor(s) to establish this perpetual trust from the above mentioned gift to- gether with any additions thereto, to be used forever by the Foundation for the benefit of the Catholic Church in the Diocese of Jackson, Mississippi, with the annual distributable income from the investment of the trust (determined in accordance with the Procedures For Establishing New Trusts of the Foundation) disbursed as follows: (90% is maximum) percent to (your deci- sion – parish, school, diocesan program) to be used for (your decision – the ministries and operations of the parish, the work and support of parish, school or program under the auspices of the diocesan church) and (10% minimum) percent added to the principal. The principal assets of this endowment fund will be kept intact and only the income from the principal assets will be used to finance the designated purposes. The earnings will be distributed in accordance with the policy established by the Board of Directors. Should the earnings in any year exceed what is needed to meet the distribution amount set annually, the excess earnings may be returned to the corpus of the endowment by the Executive Committee. The Catholic Foundation follows the Uniform Management of Institutions Funds Act of July 1, 1998 as adopted in Mississippi. The distribution percentage will be determined by the Executive Committee with a goal of 5%. The Catholic Foundation will take responsible steps to meet the goal of a 5% distribution, but cannot assure that this will be achieved each year. The Catholic Foundation will invest and reinvest all property of the funds in such assets as would be acquired by prudent persons of discre- tion and intelligence in such matters who are seeking a reasonable income and preservation of capital. NOW, THEREFORE, the (NAME OF YOUR TRUST) is hereby established to be used by the Foundation for the Glory of God and the benefit of the Church in accordance with the desires herein expressed, forever, and pursuant to Canon Law of the Catholic Church as it now exists or is hereafter changed by proper Church Authority; provided that after twenty five (25) years this trust and its purposes shall be reviewed and if they are impossible in the light of the then existing conditions, its uses may be changed with the consent of the Diocesan Bishop to accomplish the donor’s objectives as nearly as is then possible.
