World Challenge Malaysia In the summer of 2016, twelve Sixth Form students participated in a World Challenge expedition to Malaysia. In an action packed two weeks, the students trekked in the Cameron Highlands, experienced white water rafting on the Perak River, relaxed on the beaches of Palau Pankgor and navigated the urban jungle of Kuala Lumpur. But perhaps the most affecting part of the expedition was the time spent with the residents of the Kirtarsh Home for Disabled Children and Adults; playing games, going for walks, painting walls and talking with residents was undoubtedly a life changing experience that our students and Miss Forshaw will never forget.

A group of students from Year 11 & 12 have signed up to a 2 year programme to take part in a 2-week educational expedition to Malaysia in 2019.

Vocational Curriculum

Working closely with students and families

Weatherhead works closely with students and their families to ensure the best course is selected for the individual. A small number of Key Stage 4 students spend a number of days per week at a local provider following a vocational qualification. The Assistant Headteacher for Specialist Provision oversees the programme available to students and ensures the quality of education at each provider is maintained. We work closely with the students and their families to ensure that the curriculum is best suited to the needs of each student. Weatherhead works with key training providers who offer high quality facilities and training to our students. Currently the providers used are:  The Vocational College Beauty Lane – Hair and Beauty  The Vocational College – Sport  Beechwood Community Trust – Hair and Beauty  Everton Free School - Sport  The Utopia project – Child care, Sport and Media  WRAP – Wirral Respite Alternative Provision for students in years 9 – 11  Harmonize Academy  The Princes Trust Achieve Programme

We work closely with the external providers and teachers to ensure that the students are settled and organised with their studies in and out of school. Parents and Carers have the opportunity to discuss the course and needs of their children with school, who liaises with the training providers to ensure all needs are met.

National Citizenship Service Awards 2017

The National Citizen Service (NCS) have awarded Weatherhead High School ‘Champion School Status’ for the third consecutive year running.

‘Champion School Status’ is awarded to a school with 45 students or more graduating from the NCS programme. In 2016 Weatherhead were the top performing school in the country exceeding this number with 110 students participating on the programme.

Mrs Moretta Assistant Headteacher attended a celebration event at Malmaison, Liverpool on Thursday 30th November to receive the award and deliver a speech to all of the guests and other award winners.

To successfully achieve the NCS award, students must complete three phases of the NCS programme before they can graduate:

Phase 1: A residential trip completing outdoor adventurous activities

Phase 2: Students reconnect with their team in a university-style environment to develop life skills such as confidence and leadership

Phase 3 with their group, students deliver their very own social action project, taking full responsibility to plan activities, fundraise and make a difference to a local cause.

Students from Weatherhead registered with The National Citizen Service (NCS) to participate in 4 week voluntary personal and social development programme for 15–17 year olds, which took place outside of term time during the summer holidays.

During the programme students took part in a number of community projects raising money for Claire House, The little Princess Trust, Clatterbridge Hospital, Tom O’Shanters Urban Farm, Freshfields and Headway (a charity that supports individuals following brain injury).

Weatherhead are very proud of their association with NCS and students in year 11 will receive their introductory assembly in January to prepare them for the programme following their GCSEs in 2018.
