The individual was observed and collected in a primary evergreen submontane forest in Cerro Pirre, Darien Province, Republic of Panama. It was identified mainly by the low counts of secondary and primary folds. The encounter of this individual of C. guntheri highlights the disjunct populations and apparently the results of dispersion of this species from South to Central America by biotic exchange as result of the closure of the Isthmus of Panama. Abstract Herein, we summarize our work,within forest ecosystems of Garo Hills in northeast India, on mapping vegetation and land cover conditions, delineating wildlife habitat corridors among protected areas, evaluating forest conservation values of influence zones bordering protected areas, analyzing dispersion patterns of native forests, and determining potential effects of shifting-cultivation agriculture and anthropogenic stressors on an umbrella species (Asian elephant) as an indicator of forest biodiversity. This work demonstrates our use of multiple geoinformatic methods to help advise on conservation of native forests, wildlife, and biodiversity at the landscape scale. We also suggest some recent advances in geoinformatic techniques and models that could be further applied to our study area and beyond. Jadhav Department of Zoology, Balasaheb Desai College, Patan, Maharashtra INDIA ABSTRACT : The survey was conducted in Koyana region of northern Western Ghats of Maharashtra from June 2004 to October 2008. Western Ghats of India is well known biodiversity hotspot. Ichthyophis bombayensis was encountered in different habitats of Koyana region at altitude between 500 to 630 m above the sea level. We studied the rain fall, temperature of soil and air, pH of soil, altitude, latitude, longitude and different habitats, in which Ichthyophis inhabited and analyzed the soil samples of three spots and found that soil become red and porous due to rich iron content and exclusively become acidic.
