1971 Cambridge College founded as the Institute of Open Education at Newton College of the Sacred Heart. Enrollment: 100 students.
1973 Institute of Open Education becomes affiliated with Antioch University Network
1981 The Institute of Open Education, an affiliate of the Antioch University network, becomes Cambridge College, an independent institu- tion. Enrollment: 300 students.
1987 First site-based Education programs launched in Beverly, Brockton, and Somerville; Transfer credit structures created.
1991 Urban Education Program launched (summer residency for teachers); Cambridge College is authorized to award the degree of Master of Management. Enrollment: 1,217 students.
1993 Cambridge College acquires its own building at 1000 Massachusetts Avenue. Enrollment: 2,310 students.
1994 Cambridge College is authorized to award the degree of Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. Enrollment: 2,576 students.
1996 Cambridge College celebrates its 25th year of providing innovative education to working adults. The Urban Education Program is re- named the National Institute for Teaching Excellence (NITE). Enrollment: 3,470 students.
2000 College creates Diversity Taskforce; Board of Trustees approves motion to apply for new undergraduate degree programs, CAGS, and degree granting authority in Georgia, South Carolina, and Virginia. Enrollment: 4,195 students.
2001 Board of Higher Education authorizes three undergraduate degree programs: B.A. in Multidisciplinary Studies, B.S. in Human Ser- vices, B.S. in Management Studies. College receives degree granting authority in Puerto Rico, Virginia, and Georgia. Enrollment: 5,185 students.
2002 College inaugurates the School of Education opening at 80 Prospect Street. College website is launched. Enrollment: 5,666 students.
2003 Co-founder and first President Eileen Moran Brown is installed as Chancellor; Mahesh Sharma is appointed the second President of Cambridge College; Cambridge College qualifies as a Minority Institution of Higher Education (MIHE); College opens regional centers at Chesapeake, Virginia, Puerto Rico, and Lawrence, Massachusetts; The Massachusetts Department of Education approves 13 School of Education Licensure programs. Enrollment: 6,112 students.
2004 College establishes Schools: School of Education, School of Psychology and Counseling, School of Management, and Undergraduate Programs. Deans designated for each School; College offers B.A. in Multidisciplinary Studies as part of the National Institute for Teach- ing Excellence; Administrative Services Task Force reports to the Board of Trustees on the quality of Student Services; Academic Affairs Committee reviews feasibility of NCATE certification for the School of Education. Enrollment: 6,472 students.
2005 College completes Strategic Planning activities by translating Cambridge College Vision 2010 into measurable action steps and outcomes; California regional center opened; College received Board of Higher Education authorization to offer the Doctor of Education Degree; Institute for Life-Long Learning and Community Development is launched; President implements administrative reorganization of the College; President appoints Executive Vice President, Vice President for Site Administration and the Executive Team. Enrollment: 7,336 students.
2006 College celebrates 35th anniversary; Inaugural meeting of the Cambridge College Advisory Board; the College is granted continuing ac- creditation by NEASC through 2015; the Doctor of Education degree program enrolls its first cohort; the College migrates from paper course evaluations to online course evaluations; College explores international educational collaborations with Barbados, China, Brazil, Ireland, and India. Enrollment: 8,305 students
2007 College opens two new regional centers in South Boston, Virginia and Memphis, Tennessee. Enrollment: 9,284 students
