This succession consists of many relics of flat surfaces, separated by scarps, often associated with sandy and silty deposits, perched from 30 to 400 m on the Po Plain. Terraced surfaces at high levels are more deformed, dissected and mostly deprived of their original sediments; lower ones are less deformed, more continuous and preserved. In the western sector of the area, these surfaces form a degrading terraced succession towards the plain. In the eastern sector they form a terraced succession entrenched within the relief. The succession is not linked either to the present hilly watercourses, or to the Po River now developed to the north of hilly relief, because during the Pleistocene the river flowed south of the Torino Hill.

  • The Quality of the Po River in Connection to a Denitrification Improvement in the City of Turin Treatment Plant
River Basin Management III 391 The quality of the Po River in connection to a denitrification improvement in the city of Turin treatment plant G. Genon & M. Vaccarono Politecnico di Torino DITAG , Italy Abstract The city of Turin collects urban wastewater and sends it to an important treatment plant and from there it is discharged into the river Po. Some problems arise from the fact that wastewater flow rate corresponds to 6–8 m3/s, and this flow rate, which is normally high enough to guarantee a good degree of mixing, can be reduced in some periods of the year at the connection point to approximately the same previously mentioned numerical value because of the withdrawal of water to a plant where it is used for hydroelectric production. These aspects have been evaluated in different periods, before and after insertion of a specific section for the removal of biological nitrogen. Some evaluations have been performed on the basis of regular monitoring data concerning the plant effluent characteristics and the quality of the river; a statistical analysis was performed of the correlation of the two data sets, while taking different hydrological aspects of the river into account. A modellistic approach, which is useful to define the capacity of the river for removing the emitted nitrogen, has also been studied. As a final result it was, on the one hand, possible to verify the effective improvement in quality of the river in connection with the increased efficiency due to the treatment and, on the other, to verify the heavy limit on the quality of the river water due to the low dilution ratio at the connection point.

RIV. PIEM. ST. NAT., 9, 1988: 77-105 ALDO CHIARIGLIONE'" FLORA DEL BACINO DELLA STURA DI LANZO SPECIE PROTETTE, RARE O INTERESSANTI SUMMARY - Flora 01 the Stura di Lanzo basin: protected, rare or interesting species. In the present work, the Author has arranged a Iist of the protected species Iiving in Valli di Lanzo (Piedmont, NW of Italy), integrated by a list of the most interesting species that may be found in the same area: it is therefore a partial, but usefullist, as it gives new informations about the considered floristic entities, either reporting interesting remarks and new areas of presence, or pointing out the distribution and the consistence of population for each species. Such informations would integrate, at least in part, bibliographical data, formerly existing.

A list is provided of 174 carabid species from these valleys. Chorological and ecological notes about some species are also reported. • Introduzione Allo Studio Della Distribuzione Dei Vertebrati Nelle Valli Di Lanzo **
RIV. PIEM. ST. NAT" 6, 1985: 113-166 ALDO CHIARIGLIONE '!, - MATILDE MÙNDULA '!, INTRODUZIONE ALLO STUDIO DELLA DISTRIBUZIONE DEI VERTEBRATI NELLE VALLI DI LANZO ** SUMMARY - The present paper provides preliminary results towards the assessment of Verte brate distribution in the Lanzo Valleys. The area is located in province of Turin and lies in the Southern side of the Graian Alps. This study deals with nowadays alive species as well as extinct ones (Bear, Wolf, Linx, Bearded Vulture,... ). Finally particular interest is devoted to species requiring protection as they are subject to strong numerical decreasing (Frogs, Black Grouse, ... ).
