REPORT Presented at the Annual General Body mting held on 29 August 2020.

Dear Professional partners, I am privileged to present before you the Report of the Kerala Library Association Kottayam Region for the year 2018-2020.

The last Annual General Body meeting of KLA Kottayam region was held on 18 April 2018 in the Mahatma Gandhi University Library, Kottayam. The meeting was presided over by Sri. Tomy Joseph, Regional President of KLA. In addition to the members, the Dr K.P. Vijaya Kumar, President of KLA and Dr Suresh Kumar, Secretary, KLA were present at the meeting.

ACTIVITIES OF THE REGIONAL COMMITTEE

Programmes and events KLA Kottayam region has organized following programmes in association with various institutions till now. Following are the details of the programmes.

Librarians’ Meet The Librarians’ Meet held at Mahatma Gandhi University Library Seminar Hall on 18 April 2018. KLA Kottayam Region honoured Literary persons, retired professionals and PhD holders in the function. Dr Aji C. Panicker, Syndicate Member, Mahatma Gandhi University inaugurated the programme. Sri. Tomy Joseph, President, KLA-Kottayam Region presided over the function.

Ubuntu Release Party The program jointly organised by Mahatma Kerala Library Association-Kottayam Region and Gandhi University Library, Kottayam on 30 May 2018. Sri. Tomy Joseph, President, KLA-Kottayam Region presided over the function. Felicitation speech by Dr Laila T. Abraham, University Librarian (In-Charge), Mahatma Gandhi University.

The tutorial session handled by Vimal Kumar V., Technical Assistant, Mahatma Gandhi University Library. The detailed tutorial introduced the Ubuntu Linux project and new features of Ubuntu 18.04 LTS edition.

Talk on the management of print and e-journals in academic libraries Kerala Library Association-Kottayam Region and Mahatma Gandhi University Library jointly organised a talk and interactive session on Management of Print and E-journals in Academic Libraries at the Seminar Hall of Mahatma Gandhi University Library on 27 June 2018.

Sri. Unnikrishnan S., Deputy Librarian, Mahatma Gandhi University Library handled the session. Periodicals subscription procedures and various issues related to the management of periodicals have discussed in the program.

Tutorial on Malayalam Wikipedia Tutorial on Malayalam Wikipedia held at Mahatma Gandhi University Library Seminar Hall on 3 August 2018. The resource person of the tutorial was Tony Antony, District Coordinator, KITE, Kottayam. Topics covered in the tutorial are Wikipedia manual of style, editing of pages, formatting articles, linking of articles, citing sources, and talk pages.

Writing essentials: how to write effectively The programme ‘Writing essentials’ organised in association with the School of Tourism Studies, Mahatma Gandhi University. Dr Babitha Justin, Assistant Professor, IIST, Thiruvanananthapuram was the resource person. Various aspects of English writing discussed in the interactive programme. Presidential address made by Dr. Robinet Jacob, Associate Professor, School of Tourism Studies.

Tutorial on Linux Tutorial on Linux held at Mahatma Gandhi University Library Seminar Hall on 10 May 2019. The resource person of the tutorial was Vimal Kumar V., Technical Assistant, Mahatma Gandhi University. Topics covered in the tutorial are the selection of Linux distributions, command line basics, Linux maintenance, installation of Debian and Ubuntu. The number of participants in the programme is thirty-four.

Two days training cum workshop on Koha Kerala Library Association-Kottayam Region associated with Department of Library and Information Science, Ettumanoorappan College, Kottayam to organise two days training cum workshop on Koha on 24-25 February 2020. Sri. Tomy Joseph, President, KLA-Kottayam Region inaugurated the training programme. Sri. Vimal Kumar V., Technical Assistant, Mahatma Gandhi University Library served as resource person of the programme. Library Science students from various institutions participated in the training programme, and forty-five persons attended the training.

Webinar on Current and emerging trends in library services KLA-Kottayam Region organised a webinar on Current and Emerging trends in library services on April 17, 2020, 10:00 am-11:30 am. Sri. Nikesh Narayanan, Assistant Professor and IT Librarian, Zayed University, Dubai, delivered the lecture. The session was delivered online through WebEx (1 hour 30 minutes). The total number of participants was 298.

The session covered the current and emerging trends in libraries that help to adapt to the needs of their user communities. The session included the following topics and more: cloud-based library services, web-scale discovery services, authentication technologies, Electronic Resources Management systems (ERM), library service platforms, event management software, ORCiD, Research Data Management.

Webinar on Research Data Management KLA-Kottayam Region organised a webinar on Research Data Management on 1 May 2020 at 10:30 am to 11:30 am. Sri. Nikesh Narayanan, Assistant Professor and IT Librarian, Zayed University, Dubai, served as resource person of the programme. The total number of participants in the webinar was 585.

PUBLICATION KLA Kottayam region has prepared a book to honour former office bearers of KLA Kottayam Region. KLA-Kottayam Region prepared this edited work to honour the contributions of Dr Laila T. Abraham, University Librarian-in-Charge (Retired), Mahatma Gandhi University Library, Dr Sr Mercyamma Mathew T., Librarian (Retired), Assumption College, , Dr Sujatha R., Assistant Librarian (Retired), Mahatma Gandhi University Library, Sri Suku J., Deputy Librarian (Retired), Mahatma Gandhi University Library, Sri Unnikrishnan S., Deputy Librarian (Retired), Mahatma Gandhi University Library. Following are the bibliographic details of the book,

MEETINGS OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE The executive committee could meet 5 times during the reporting period.

Retirement Suku J. retired as Deputy Librarian from Mahatma Gandhi University Library on March 2018. ​

Sujatha R. retired as Assistant Librarian (Sel. Gr.), Mahatma Gandhi University Library on January ​ 2018.

Unnikrishnan S. retired as Deputy Librarian from Mahatma Gandhi University Library on July 2019. ​

Dr Laila T. Abraham retired as University Librarian (In-Charge) from Mahatma Gandhi University ​ Library on March 2019.

Conclusion We, the Executive Committee of Kerala Library Association Kottayam Region, is happy to state that the reporting period was fruitful in terms of the quantum of professional activities and the extent of reach to the professionals.

At this point, I would like to express to all the Executive Committee Members my sincere thanks for their endless support, active involvement and cooperation in each and every activity carried out during the tenure 2018-2020. Also, I extend my hearty thanks to all other people and institutions those who directly or indirectly contributed to the smooth functioning of the system.
