Uefa Europa League UEFA EUROPA LEAGUE - 2017/18 SEASON MATCH PRESS KITS (First leg: 0-1) Stade Vélodrome - Marseille Thursday 12 April 2018 Olympique de Marseille 21.05CET (21.05 local time) RB Leipzig Quarter-finals, Second leg Last updated 11/04/2018 04:11CET Match background 2 Legend 4 1 Olympique de Marseille - RB Leipzig Thursday 12 April 2018 - 21.05CET (21.05 local time) Match press kit Stade Vélodrome, Marseille Match background Marseille will have to come back to win a European tie following a first-leg defeat for the first time in 13 years if they are to reach the UEFA Europa League semi-finals at the expense of European debutants RB Leipzig, 1-0 winners of the first encounter in Germany. • Runners-up to Salzburg in the group stage, Marseille overcame Braga 3-1 on aggregate in the round of 32 before home (3-1) and away (2-1) wins against UEFA Europa League regulars Athletic Club in the last 16, Lucas Ocampos scoring three goals and captain Dimitri Payet the other two. • Leipzig, who finished third in their UEFA Champions League group, have enjoyed an impressive run in the UEFA Europa League, eliminating Napoli on away goals in the round of 32 before edging past another former UEFA Cup winner, Zenit, 3-2 on aggregate in the round of 16. Previous meetings • A close first leg in Leipzig ended in victory for the home side as they scored the only goal just before the interval through Timo Werner, the German international striker registering his seventh European goal in 2017/18. • The clubs had never met in UEFA competition until the first leg of this tie, although Marseille had previously faced another team from the same city, defeating Lokomotive Leipzig (then representing East Germany) 1-0 on aggregate (0-0 away, 1-0 home) in the 1987/88 European Cup Winners' Cup. • Marseille have lost nine of their 17 matches against German opposition, winning five. Four of those wins have been on French soil, although the last three against German visitors have brought two defeats and a draw, with two goals conceded in each game. OM's last home triumph against a Bundesliga side was a 3-0 win against Borussia Dortmund in the 2011/12 UEFA Champions League group stage. • Leipzig's European debut was a 1-1 draw against Monaco on matchday one of this season's UEFA Champions League. The German club overwhelmed the 2016/17 semi-finalists in the matchday five return, a 4-1 win at the Stade Louis II that featured two goals from Werner and ensured Leipzig would finish above their hosts in Group G. Form guide • Marseille have won six of their seven European games at the Stade Vélodrome this season, drawing the other 0-0 against fellow quarter-finalists Salzburg. They have scored 16 goals, conceded four and kept four clean sheets. Their last home defeat in Europe was a 1-0 loss to Athletic Club in the 2015/16 UEFA Europa League round of 16. • UEFA Cup runners-up in 1998/99 and 2003/04, and quarter-finalists in 2008/09, Marseille have reached the UEFA Europa League's last eight for the first time at the fourth attempt. • Marseille lost both legs of their two most recent European quarter-finals, going down 0-2 away and 1-2 at home to Shakhtar Donetsk in the 2008/09 UEFA Cup and also losing both legs (0-2 home and away) to Bayern München in the 2011/12 UEFA Champions League. However, the first five of their seven European quarter-final ties all ended in victory, most recently against Internazionale in the 2003/04 UEFA Cup (1-0 home, 1-0 away). • Marseille finished fifth in last season's Ligue 1 and entered the UEFA Europa League in the third qualifying round, where they defeated Belgium's Oostende 4-2 on aggregate before getting the better of Slovenian side Domžale in the play-offs (4-1). • Leipzig have won two of their five European away games (D1 L2) and conceded at least once in each of them – eight goals in all. Indeed, the 1-0 win in the first leg of this tie was the club's first European clean sheet, home and away, in their 12th match. • Leipzig gained automatic entry into the 2017/18 UEFA Champions League after finishing runners-up to Bundesliga champions Bayern at the end of their debut season in Germany's top flight. They are the only club to have played their first European fixture in the UEFA Champions League group stage. • Marseille have won three and lost four of the seven UEFA competition ties in which they were defeated away in the first leg, their most recent success being against Deportivo La Coruña in the 2005 UEFA Intertoto Cup final when they recovered from a 2-0 defeat in Spain to win the return 5-1 in France. • In each of the two previous instances where OM have lost the first away leg by a one-goal margin, they have managed to turn the tie around at home – against Dukla Praha in the 1969/70 European Cup Winners’ Cup (0-1 away, 2-0 home) and Lech Poznań in the second round of the 1990/91 European Cup (2-3 away, 6-1 home). • Leipzig were successful on the only other occasion when they won the first leg of a European tie at home – against Zenit in the round of 16 (2-1 home, 1-1 away). Links and trivia 2 Olympique de Marseille - RB Leipzig Thursday 12 April 2018 - 21.05CET (21.05 local time) Match press kit Stade Vélodrome, Marseille • No German or French club has ever reached the UEFA Europa League final. There has only ever been one semi- finalist from each country – Hamburg in 2009/10 and Lyon in 2016/17 respectively. • Marseille trio Hiroki Sakai (Hannover), Aymen Abdennour (Werder Bremen) and Luiz Gustavo (Hoffenheim, Bayern München, Wolfsburg) have all played for German Bundesliga clubs. • Adil Rami, a starter in Marseille's first 14 European encounters this term but who missed this first leg through injury, won the 2015/16 UEFA Europa League with Sevilla, appearing in seven matches including the final against Liverpool. • Marseille are the only UEFA Champions League winners present in the quarter-finals. • This is the French club's 16th UEFA Europa League encounter this season, the most of any of the competition's remaining participants. It is the second longest European campaign in OM's history – after the 17-match odyssey that transported them from the UEFA Champions League qualifying phase to the UEFA Cup final in 2003/04. • Leipzig are the only one of the eight teams remaining in the competition who have never previously appeared in a UEFA competition final. • Leipzig became the 204th club to compete in the UEFA Europa League, group stage to final – and a record 17th from Germany – when they transferred over from the UEFA Champions League in the winter. • Goalkeeper Péter Gulácsi has played every minute of Leipzig's 11 European games. • Werner has scored seven goals in Leipzig's last eight European encounters – the first five all came in away fixtures. • Werner scored past Steve Mandanda in Germany's 2-2 friendly draw against France in Cologne last November. • In the European Qualifiers for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Emil Forsberg scored the opener for Sweden in France before Dimitri Payet grabbed France's winner in a 2-1 victory. In the return fixture, Forsberg's Sweden reversed that 2- 1 scoreline against Payet's France. • There are three Frenchmen in the Leipzig squad: Dayot Upamecano, Ibrahima Konaté and Jean-Kévin Augustin. • Upamecano and Marseille's Maxime Lopez are current team-mates for the French national Under-21 side, while Bruma (Leipzig) and Rolando (Marseille) are both full Portuguese internationals. • Marseille's Japanese international Sakai turns 28 on the day of the game. • Leipzig's Willi Orban returns from suspension after missing the first leg. • Suspended for next match if booked: Lucas Ocampos, Jordan Amavi, Maxime Lopez, Adil Rami, Boubacar Kamara (Marseille); Marcel Sabitzer, Yussuf Poulsen, Jean-Kévin Augustin, Diego Demme (Leipzig). Penalty shoot-outs • Leipzig have yet to feature in a UEFA penalty shoot-out. • Marseille's record in UEFA penalty shoot-outs is W2 L1: 3-5 v Crvena zvezda, 1990/91 European Champion Clubs' Cup final 4-1 v Germinal Beerschot, 2005/06 UEFA Cup first round 7-6 v FC Twente, 2008/09 UEFA Cup round of 32 The coaches • Marseille coach since October 2016, Rudi Garcia started out as a midfielder at Lille, returning to lead the club from 2008–13 and masterminding their Ligue 1/Coupe de France double triumph in 2010/11. He subsequently spent three seasons in charge of Roma, leading the Giallorossi to back-to-back runners-up spots in Serie A. • Former Austrian international striker Ralph Hasenhüttl was appointed as RB Leipzig coach following their promotion to the Bundesliga in 2016, and he hit the ground running, remaining unbeaten in his first 13 league games en route to guiding the club to a runners-up spot in their debut top-flight campaign. His previous coaching posts have all been in Germany – at Unterhaching, Aalen and Ingolstadt. 3 Olympique de Marseille - RB Leipzig Thursday 12 April 2018 - 21.05CET (21.05 local time) Match press kit Stade Vélodrome, Marseille Legend Competitions Club competitions National team competitions UCL: UEFA Champions League EURO: UEFA European Football Championship ECCC: European Champion Clubs' Cup WC: FIFA World Cup UEL: UEFA Europa League CONFCUP: FIFA Confederations Cup UCUP: UEFA Cup FRIE: Friendly internationals UCWC: UEFA Cup Winners' Cup U21FRIE: Under-21 friendly internationals SCUP: UEFA Super Cup U21: UEFA European Under-21 Championship UIC: UEFA Intertoto Cup U17: UEFA Under-17 Championship ICF: Inter-Cities Fairs Cup U16: UEFA European Under-16 Championship U19: UEFA Under-19 Championship U18: UEFA European Under-18 Championship WWC: FIFA

UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE - 2020/21 SEASON MATCH PRESS KITS Red Bull Arena - Leipzig Tuesday 8 December 2020 21.00CET (21.00 local time) RB Leipzig Group H - Matchday 6 Manchester United FC Last updated 07/12/2020 03:29CET UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE OFFICIAL SPONSORS Match background 2 Legend 6 1 RB Leipzig - Manchester United FC Tuesday 8 December 2020 - 21.00CET (21.00 local time) Match press kit Red Bull Arena, Leipzig Match background There is set to be a thrilling conclusion to Group H as two of the three teams still in contention for the section's two qualifying places, Leipzig and Manchester United, meet in Germany on Matchday 6. • The pair are level on nine points with Paris Saint-Germain at the top of the section after three wins and two defeats apiece in their first five fixtures. While Leipzig and United do battle in Germany, Paris are at home to İstanbul Başakşehir, who will finish fourth regardless of the outcome of the final two games. • To guarantee qualification Leipzig need to win, though a draw would also suffice if Paris lose. The German club will finish first if they win and their French rivals do not. • United will qualify if they avoid defeat. They will top the group if they better Paris's result, or if both matches are drawn. • United inflicted Leipzig's heaviest European loss at Old Trafford on Matchday 2, Marcus Rashford coming off the bench to score a hat-trick in the final 16 minutes in a 5-0 home victory. Form guide Leipzig • Leipzig have won both home games in the 2020/21 UEFA Champions League, beating İstanbul Başakşehir (2-0) and Paris (2-1).
