Manchester City are already assured of first place in Group C, while Marseille are still in the hunt for the section's UEFA Europa League qualifying slot having ended their record run of UEFA Champions League defeats last time out. • City have 13 points, three ahead of Porto, with whom they drew 0-0 on Matchday 5 to make sure of winning the section. On the same night Marseille produced a 2-1 comeback victory at home to Olympiacos, joining them on three points; however, with the Greek side having the head-to-head advantage, OM need to better their result on Matchday 6, when Olympiacos play host to Porto, to finish third. • City eased to three points at the Stade Vélodrome on Matchday 2, Ferran Torres opening the scoring in the 18th minute before goals in the closing stages from İlkay Gündoğan (76) and Raheem Sterling (81) made sure of the victory. Form guide Manchester City • City scored three goals in each of their first three Group C victories, the win in Marseille coming either side of defeats of Porto (3-1) and Olympiacos (3-0) in Manchester. A 1-0 victory at Olympiacos on Matchday 4 secured progress before a 0-0 draw at Porto last time out confirmed City in first place and Porto second. • City finished second in the 2019/20 , ending the season 18 points behind Liverpool having won the title in each of the two previous campaigns. • Josep Guardiola's side bowed out of the UEFA Champions League at the quarter-final stage for the third season running, going down 3-1 against Marseille's domestic rivals Lyon in their one-off tie in Lisbon. • City had finished first in their group with 14 points (W4 D2) before seeing off Real Madrid in the last 16, winning 2-1 away and at home against the 13-time European champions. • This is the Cityzens' tenth UEFA Champions League campaign; they have been involved in the group stage every season since 2011/12 and have now reached the round of 16 in eight successive campaigns. • City have scored 45 goals in their last 18 UEFA Champions League matches; over the last two seasons their record is W17 D4 L3 with 61 goals scored and 22 conceded. • Guardiola's team are unbeaten in ten home European matches (W9 D1) since a 2-1 loss against Lyon on Matchday 1 in 2018/19. • City's best UEFA Champions League performance was reaching the 2015/16 semi-finals. • Matchday 2 ended City's four-game winless streak against French clubs (D1 L3), since a 5-3 defeat of Monaco in the 2016/17 round of 16 first leg – a tie Guardiola's side lost on away goals after going down 3-1 in the away game. • City have won two of their four home matches with visitors (D1 L1) but lost the most recent, that 2018 defeat against Lyon. Marseille • Marseille were the only side still to score in this season's group stage after four games, losing at Olympiacos (0-1) and Porto (0-3) and at home to City and Porto (0-2). That looked set to become five games without a point when Olympiacos took a first-half lead at the Stade Vélodrome on Matchday 5, but two penalties in the second period broke that scoreless run and ended OM's long wait for a UEFA Champions League win. • This season's results extended Marseille's losing run in the UEFA Champions League to 13 matches, surpassing Anderlecht's record. Their previous success in the competition before Matchday 5 was a 1-0 home victory against Internazionale in the 2011/12 round of 16 first leg. • Before beating Olympiacos, Marseille were without a win in 12 European matches, losing 11, since a 2-0 victory at home to Salzburg in the 2017/18 UEFA Europa League semi-final first leg. They went on to lose the second leg 2-1 but still progressed to the final, where they were beaten 3-0 by Atlético de Madrid in Lyon. • The French side are making their tenth appearance in the UEFA Champions League group stage, but their first since 2013/14. Three of those previous nine campaigns have extended into the knockout rounds, including the inaugural edition in 1992/93 when OM became the first, and so far only, French side to win the European Cup. • Marseille most recently made the knockout stages in 2011/12, when they reached the quarter-finals. • Seven years ago, OM finished bottom of their group behind Arsenal, Borussia Dortmund and Napoli, losing all six games. • Second in Ligue 1 in 2019/20, Marseille are taking part in UEFA competition for the first time since 2018/19. Then they finished bottom of a UEFA Europa League section also including Eintracht Frankfurt, Lazio and Apollon Limassol
