DAVENING WITH A MINYAN Minhagim and Halakhot Shabbat Parashat Shemini/Mevarchim Rosh Chodesh Iyar April 9th – April 16th 2021 By Rabbi Elazar Muskin

Friday April 9th • Candles should be lit between 6:00 – 7:03 PM and Mincha either at 5:50 PM or 7:10 PM • Shkiah is at 7:21 PM • A full Kabbalat Shabbat and Maariv should be recited. • In Shul at Maariv recite Vayechulu, Magen Avot and Elokeinu V’Elokei Avoteinu. • If you are davening Kabbalat Shabbat and Maariv at a satellite Minyan, then only say Vayechulu but not Magen Avot and Elokeinu V’Elokei Avoteinu.

Shabbat April 10th • Shacharit is a regular Shabbat Shacharit. • Parashat HaShavua is Shemini. Seven Aliyot are distributed plus a Maftir. • The Ba’al Kriah should say Chatzi Kaddish after the 7th Aliyah followed by the Maftir. • Recite the Tefilah for the Cholim followed by the Tefilah for the American Government, Mi Sheberach for the IDF and the Tefilah for Medinat Yisrael. • The Haftorah for Parashat Shemini is from Shmuel II (6:1 – 7:17). • Say the two chapters of Y’kum Purkan and the Mi Sheberach. • Recite Birkat Rosh Chodesh for the new month of Iyar as follows: The Sefer Torah is uncovered on the Shulchan while the Chazan recites the introductory paragraph of Birkat Rosh Chodesh. The Gabai, from wherever he is standing, announces the Molad which will take place on Monday April 12th @ 7:47 AM and 6 Chalakim. The Chazan picks up the Sefer Torah to recite Mi She’asah Nissim through Yechadeshayhu. The Chazan announces that Rosh Chodesh Iyar will take place on Monday and Tuesday. After he finishes Birkat Rosh Chodesh the Chazan puts down the Sefer Torah on the Shulchan and lifts it after Ashrei is said in order to return it to the Aron. • WE RECITE Av HaRachamim before Ashrei. • Musaf is the regular Shabbat Musaf Amida. • Mincha is at 7:00 PM at Shul. • Mincha is a regular Shabbat afternoon Mincha. • Three Aliyot are distributed. • Omit the Kel Maleh prayer. • Omit Tzidkatcha Tzedek. • Maariv is the regular weekday Maariv. Maariv begins at 7:56 PM. • Shabbat ends at 8:06 PM. • Recite V’he Noam and V’yeeten Lecha followed by Aleinu and the Mourner’s Kaddish. • A complete Havdalah is recited at home.

Sunday April 11th • Omit Tachanun both in Shacharit and Mincha. • Include in the Maariv Amida Ya’aleh V’yavo for Rosh Chodesh.

Monday -Tuesday April 12th-13th Rosh Chodesh • Include in the Shacharit Amida Ya’aleh V’yavo for Rosh Chodesh. • Recite a Half Hallel. After Hallel the Chazan should recite Chatzi Kaddish. • Four Aliyot are distributed for Rosh Chodesh. The Chazan says Chatzi Kaddish after the Torah reading. • Omit Lamenatzeach and Tachanun. • Remove your Tefillin and put them away before the Chazan says Chatzi Kaddish prior to Musaf. Everyone should start the Musaf for Rosh Chodesh together after the Chazan completes saying Chatzi Kaddish. • After Musaf recite Aleinu followed by the Mourner’s Kaddish. • Recite Shir Shel Yom followed by Borchi Nafshi. Only after Borchi Nafshi should the Mourner’s Kaddish be said. • At Mincha and Maariv include Ya’aleh V’yavo for Rosh Chodesh in the Amida. • Omit Tachanun during Mincha.

Wednesday April 14th • Regular weekday Davening with Tachanun at Shacharit. • Omit Tachanun during Mincha.

Thursday April 15th Yom Ha’atzma’ut • Regular weekday Davening for Shacharit is recited. • After the Chazan says Kaddish Titkabel before Aleinu we recite a complete Hallel without Brakhot. • Upon completing Hallel the Chazan recites the Tefilot for the IDF and the State of Israel. • Omit Tachanun at Mincha. • A regular Maariv is recited.

Friday April 16th • Recite a regular Shacharit with Tachanun. • At Mincha omit Tachanun. • Shabbat candles should between 6:04 – 7:08 PM. • Early Mincha is at 5:55 PM. Mincha before sunset is at 7:15 PM. • Shkiah is at 7:26 PM. • A full Kabbalat Shabbat and Maariv should be recited.
