V “It might sound crazy, but it ain’t no lie. Baby, bye, bye, bye.” VII ABSTRACT Since the 1950s, the music industry has been witnessing the coming of several artists whose success is due not only to their music. Charisma, merchandising, interaction and, above all, knowing your audience are some of the resources a singer or group may use to become idols. In this context, the advent of boybands in nearly all decades since then draws attention for they have very similar characteristics to each other and still are successful. This work aims to understand in what manner the two boybands, New Kids on the Block and One Direction, were developed as brands to reach their consumers, the fans. Thus, it intended to reach a result revealing convergences and divergences in the ways they were built in the industry and how they interact with fans so to become idols of their generation. Keywords: adolescence, boyband, branding, communication, consume, music industry.
