1.1 Does my phone support high voltage quick chargers? No.

1.2 Why does my charger sometimes emit a high frequency noise? Huawei chargers are tested to very high standards. The high frequency noise is produced by the charger's internal voltage converter and does not affect the normal operation of your charger.

1.3 What can I do if my phone heats up when in standby? Check the list of power-intensive apps. Go to Settings > Power saving > Detailed power info > Background power-intensive apps. Check whether a lot of apps are marked red, indicating that they are using a comparatively large amount of power. If the list contains apps that you are not currently using, close or uninstall them.

1.4 What can I do if the amount of power remaining in the battery is not displayed accurately? 1. Try restarting your phone or back up your data and restore your phone to factory settings. 2. Try updating your phone's operating system to the latest version. 3. If the problem persists, replace the battery (if it can be removed) or take your phone and proof of purchase to an authorized Huawei service center to be tested.

1 1.5 Why does my phone get very hot when completing an over-the-air update? In order to update as quickly as possible, the update program runs at full speed, reading and writing a large amount of data to your phones eMMC internal memory. This consumes a lot of power in a short amount of time and produces a lot of heat. After the update, the phone will return to its normal temperature.

1.6 Why is the charging icon still on the status bar after my phone is fully charged but still connected to a charger? This is a normal phenomenon. This design is a common practice in the industry to show you that your charger works properly.

2 2 Hardware and appearance

2.1 What can I do if, after I insert a SIM card, my phone doesn't recognize it? 1. You can only use standard nano-SIM cards. If you do not have a standard SIM card, save the contact information on the card and go to your carrier's service center to get a standard SIM card. Hand-cut SIM cards may not be recognized by your phone and may damage the card slot. If you use a hand-cut nano-SIM card, after cutting the card, make sure you polish the metal edges smooth before using. 2. Make sure the SIM card you use is compatible with your phone model. Check that your primary and secondary SIM cards are set correctly. 3. Try restarting your phone. 4. If your SIM card is still not recognized after restarting your phone, try backing up your data and resetting your phone to factory settings. Insert the card again and check whether the card is recognized. 5. Check whether the SIM card is recognized by other phones and whether your phone can recognize other SIM cards. 6. If the previous suggestions don't work, it may be that the SIM card slot is damaged or there may be some other problem. Take your phone to an authorized Huawei service center for service.

2.2 Does my phone support smart screenshot? No.

2.3 Does my phone support iPhone 5/5s nano-SIM cards? Yes.

3 2.4 What can I do if dents and scratches start to appear on the edges of my phone? The edges of your phone are made from a hard metal which may be easily scratched when it bumps against other things. Try using a protective cover or case.

2.5 On my phone, do SIM card slots 1 and 2 both support 4G? How do I switch SIM cards between slots? (Applicable to phones with dual SIM card support) 1. Confirm that 4G service has been enabled for your SIM card. 2. SIM cards can be switched between slots. Card slot 1 and 2 both support 4G. 3. Go to Settings > Wireless & networks > Dual card management and select the card that has 4G service. When one card is designated as the 4G card, the other card will only support GSM service. Different phone models support various network standards. (See section 15.1 "Product specifications" and section 15.6 "Card slot specifications", or tell the user to reference the phone specifications on the Huawei official website.) Note: Shipped RIO-L01 phones include both single SIM card and dual SIM card versions. They can be differentiated through the menu:

 Single SIM card phones: Settings does not have a Dual card management menu.  Dual SIM card phones: Settings does have a Dual card management menu.

2.6 What types of cards are supported by my phone's card slots?

 Single SIM card phones − Card slot 1: supports nano-SIM cards − Card slot 2: only supports microSD cards, not nano-SIM cards.  Dual SIM card phones − Card slot 1: supports nano-SIM cards − Card slot 2: supports SD cards or nano-SIM cards.

2.7 Does my phone support SIM card hot swapping? Yes. When you insert a new card, you don't need to restart your phone before the card can be used.

4 2.8 Can I open the battery cover and take out my built-in battery? You cannot take out built-in batteries by yourself.

2.9 Why aren't my phone's card slots marked? The card slot information is marked on the card tray (SIM1/SIM2/SD card). If it is not clearly marked, check the explanation on the sticker on the back of your phone.

2.10 Does my phone support micro-SIM cards? Your phone's card slots only support standard nano-SIM cards. If you have a hand-cut SIM card, after cutting the card, polish the metal edges smooth before using.

2.11 Why aren't the side buttons the same height? The volume buttons were designed to be 0.1 mm taller than the power button. If the buttons can be pressed easily, your phone's functionality will not be affected.

2.12 Why is the rear camera lens not centered? Why does it move? Your phone uses a new optical image stabilizer lens. When you take pictures, your phone will automatically adjust the position of the lens according to the situation to get the best results.

5 2.13 Does my phone support optical image stabilization? Yes.

2.14 Why does my phone's rear camera lens make slight noises when my phone is shaken? The rear camera has optical image stabilization and auto-focus functionality. The camera contains movable parts, which may make slight sounds when you shake your phone. The process of automatically focusing may also produce slight sounds. This is normal.

2.15 There is a gap between the screen and my phone’s casing. Why does this gap appear to be comparatively large? Your phone is engineered to endure expansion and contraction due to heating and cooling. The small gap that appears between the casing and the screen is normal. When phones leave the factory, this gap is in line with industry standards. If you feel like the gap is too large, you can perform the following checks on your own: insert two pieces of A4 paper (2 pieces equal about 0.20 mm). If they can be easily inserted please take your phone to an authorized Huawei service center for service.

2.16 What phone colors are available? Luxury gold, champagne silver, and titanium gray. More limited edition colors will be added later.

2.17 Why is the screen too dark or too bright? Make sure the light sensor is working properly. Blocking the light sensor can cause problems with brightness levels. On Huawei phones, the option to automatically adjust screen brightness is turned on by default. The brightness level will change by itself according to light in the environment, bringing the brightness to a comfortable level. If you are not satisfied, you can turn off the option to automatically adjust screen brightness and adjust the brightness yourself. If you feel the screen is too bright or dark, adjust the brightness level. Go to Settings > Display > Brightness.

If the screen has received impact damage, the liquid crystal display may be damaged and the screen's brightness level may be affected or the colors may appear abnormal. Contact support or take your phone and proof of purchase to an authorized Huawei service center.

2.18 Why are there black bars at the top and bottom edges of the screen? In the theme shown when the phone first starts, 2–3 mm of the top and bottom edges of the screen appear black. This is caused by the way the user interface layers images on the screen and is not an error.

2.19 What can I do if, when I play games, my phone's touch screen's touch positions are incorrect? If the touch positions are incorrect when using your phone to play games, check whether you hid the virtual buttons below the screen when playing the game. If so, just swipe up from the

8 bottom of the screen to drag the virtual buttons back up. The touch positions should return to normal.

The figures are for your reference only. The actual screens may vary.

2.20 Why does the touch screen respond slowly or isn't very responsive when using magnification gestures? After enabling magnification gestures, touching the screen three times will zoom in or out on the screen to make the content easier to see. Presently, this function is not designed in a way that fully matches common user habits, so, when using it, the touch screen may seem unresponsive. To turn off magnification gestures, go to Settings > Accessibility > Magnification gestures and turn off the Magnification gestures switch.

6.11 When I record a fingerprint, my phone displays a message that says the fingerprint already exists. However, this fingerprint is not in the fingerprint list. After I clean up the list, this problem persists. Why? Check whether you have enabled the privacy protection and associated it with the fingerprint identification. Visitor fingerprints configured under Privacy protection will not be displayed under Settings > Fingerprint ID > Fingerprint management > Fingerprint list. Even if the privacy protection is disabled, the system will not delete the visitor fingerprint data. For fingerprints already recorded in visitor mode, when they're recorded again, your phone will display a message that says the fingerprint already exists. You need to delete visitor fingerprints manually. Go to Settings > Security > Privacy protection, enter the owner password for privacy protection (if the privacy protection is disabled, the system will ask you to create a new password). On the privacy protection settings screen, touch Manage fingerprints > Visitor fingerprint and delete unwanted fingerprint templates (when a finger presses on the fingerprint sensor, its fingerprint template is highlighted in the template list).

6.12 My phone vibrates when the fingerprint unlock fails. Can I disable this feature? The vibration is a reminder to you. Therefore, it can't be disabled.

If the fingerprint unlock fails consecutively for six times, a message indicating that you can try again 30s later will be displayed. You can also enter the password to unlock the screen. If your phone is locked with its screen off, the phone will vibrate but the screen will not be turned on when unsuccessful fingerprint unlock occurs. You can try the fingerprint unlock up to 30 times. If you still fail to unlock the screen, the screen will be turned on and a message indicating that you can try again 30s later will be displayed on the screen. You can also enter the password on the onscreen keyboard to access your phone.

6.14 Why does the fingerprint unlock feature frequently fail to work properly? The fingerprint sensor on Huawei phones is designed to work at temperatures ranging from –20ºC to +75ºC. If the fingerprint sensor fails to recognize your fingerprint, this is usually due to the ambient conditions. This problem is normally observed during cold periods when the finger's skin is susceptible to peeling, causing temporary changes in the shape of your fingerprint. In addition, the fingerprint sensor may also not work properly late at night or when you wake up in the morning due to changes in the depth of fingerprint ridges caused by dry fingers and slow circulation. 1. Check whether the skin on your finger is dry, peeling or damaged. The fingerprint sensor is designed to work at temperatures ranging from –20ºC to +75ºC. Solutions:  Use another finger.  Use skincare products to keep your skin moist and prevent it from peeling or cracking.  Use warm water to wash your hands.  If your fingerprints are not clear, exercising or using warm water to wash your hands can help to relieve the problem. 2. Check whether the surface of the fingerprint sensor is dirty and clean it if necessary. 3. If the fingerprint sensor is still not working properly, check whether your phone vibrates when you use the sensor. If so, this means that your phone did not recognize your fingerprint and the screen was not unlocked. Solutions: Try to cover the whole of the fingerprint sensor with your fingertip. You can record six images for each fingerprint: two for the center of each finger (the most commonly used part) and four for the surrounding areas. The greater the surface area you record, the greater the accuracy of the fingerprint sensor. Try registering your fingerprint again following the preceding steps. When registering your fingerprint, avoid using the same area of your finger for all the six images.

42 6.15 How do I delete the fingerprints registered on my phone? Go to Settings > Fingerprint ID > Fingerprint management and enter the unlock password. Select the fingerprints you want to delete in the fingerprint list and touch Delete. You can also access the phone using the owner password. 6.17 How does the consecutive detection work? 1. When your phone screen is off and your fingerprint is not recognized for the first time, your phone will vibrate. If the fingerprint unlock fails again, your phone will not vibrate. 2. If the screen is on and the fingerprint unlock fails for the first time, your phone will vibrate and a message will be displayed telling you that fingerprint mismatches and asking you to remove your finger or try again. Try again and if the fingerprint unlock fails again, your phone will not vibrate and no message will be displayed. 3. The test time duration is 3s. Your phone can continuously detect your fingerprint for 10 times. If the fingerprint unlock still fails, your phone will stop the detection.

Signal quality can also affect calls (in areas with electronic interference, for example). Also, your carrier's network resources are a factor. If there is no other explanation for being unable to make calls or for dropped calls, the problem is generally related to the network.

9.2 What can I do if the other person complains that my voice is too low or there is no sound? 1. Calls made in hand-held mode use the main microphone on the bottom right of your phone. Make sure that when you are making calls your hand does not cover the microphone hole. 2. When making calls in hand-held mode, your phone uses dual-microphone noise reduction technology to improve call clarity. In order to improve your in-call experience, your phone may treat sounds that are relatively far from the main microphone as noise and automatically filter them out. Because of this, try to maintain a normal distance from the phone (within 10 cm from the main microphone) when making calls.

9.3 Why does my phone show that I have a 4G signal, but I can't make calls? Your phone uses the network according to the following ranking: 4G > 3G > 2G. 10.4 In the Task Manager, why is my phone's total RAM displayed as less than 2 or 3 GB? Some RAM is reserved as a cache for the modem, camera, and GPU. This RAM is not managed by the Android system. The use of a cache improves the phone's performance. The total amount of RAM of the actual hardware in your phone is still 2 or 3 GB.

65 10.5 After I end recent tasks, why is some of the RAM still in use? When using apps for a long time, they will start many background processes and the system tries to keep these processes running. Because of this, when you end tasks to increase the available RAM, there are some processes which are not able to be stopped. This means the available RAM will appear different from when you first turn on your phone, by about 100– 200 MB or more.

67 68 11 Backup, restoration, and update

11.1 My phone automatically turns off or will not turn on. What can I do? A. Check the following: 1. Check whether the SIM card and microSD card are inserted correctly. Sometimes, improperly inserted SIM cards and microSD cards can cause the phone to automatically turn off. 2. Check whether the phone has enough power (see the charging screen after connecting the phone to the power adapter). If the power level is lower than 2%, this may cause the phone to automatically turn off. 3. Software problems can cause the phone to turn off automatically. Check whether you have recently installed an incompatible app which then began to cause sudden errors that shut down your phone. In this case, it is recommended that you restore your phone to factory settings and update the system to the latest version. (Before you restore to factory settings, remember to back up any important data.) Press and hold the power button for more than 10 seconds to forcibly restart your phone. If your phone can display the home screen, you can use the normal update and restore mode. Otherwise, use the forcible update and restore mode. B. Normal update and restore mode 1. Restore to factory settings Go to Settings > Backup & reset > Factory data reset and touch Reset phone. After your phone restarts it will be restored to factory settings. When the restart is complete, your phone will automatically restart again and you can use it like normal. 2. 12.2 What can I do if my phone's GPS function finds satellites slowly or cannot find any satellites? 1. Do not search for GPS satellites underground or in enclosed spaces (for example, on the first floor of tall buildings, in areas where there is little space between tall buildings, in underground parking garages, and so on). In such places, the chance of finding satellites is low. 2. Turning on mobile data may help your phone determine your location more quickly. 3. Try not to touch the upper right corner of your phone. The GPS antenna is in that area. 4. Check whether you are using a metal case. Metal cases can interfere with your phone's antennas, potentially degrading your phone’s signal strength. It is recommended that you use plastic or leather cases.

12.3 What can I do if third party map applications cannot load map images? 1. Check whether you have a good network connection. If the network is relatively slow, this can prevent images from loading. Try using Wi-Fi to download an offline map package. 2. Try removing the microSD card and checking whether the map data can be loaded. Android 4.4 and later versions require third party apps to have read/write permissions for the microSD card. Some apps may not have this permission, resulting in not being able to download the map data to the microSD card.

If your phone cannot find any GPS satellites, third party apps will determine your location using third party servers. Errors may occur when determining your location in this way. Try to following things to improve accuracy when determining your location: 1. Chang the mode for determining location to High accuracy. (Go to Settings > Location access > Location mode 2. Try going to an open area and trying to determine your location again. 3. Turn on Wi-Fi and try again. 4. Third party apps determine locations using the internet. 12.5 Why do I often see the GPS icon displayed in the status bar? Various apps may use GPS to determine your location when they start or when they periodically refresh (like the Weather app). Map and navigation apps are able to run in the background and may access the location function through a background process. You can manually stop any background processes related to location services.

Try turning on mobile data (if mobile data is unavailable, use a Wi-Fi network instead), searching for the destination location, finding a good route, turning off your mobile data, and then using offline navigation. 3. When you are in tunnels, the navigation icon will disappear because in tunnels you cannot find any satellites. Once you exit the tunnel and drive to a more open area, start using navigation again. 4. Make sure your phone has enough power and it is relatively cool when you use the navigation function.

12.8 What can I do if there is no location information on pictures that I take? 1. Check whether GPS is on. Go to Settings > Location access > Location mode and choose High accuracy or Battery saving to use your network connection to help determine the location. Do not select Device only. 2. In the camera app's settings, enable the location service. In the gallery app’s settings, enable show location taken. 3. You need to be connected to mobile data or a Wi-Fi network to geo-tag photos. 4. Try taking pictures outside in an open area. 5. Some phones do not support showing location information in the lower right corner of the photo. Please touch the picture to see the detailed information and check whether there is latitude and longitude information there. 6. When taking pictures, the notification bar will show Searching for GPS. Continue taking photos until the notification bar displays a message indicating that GPS location has been determined.

12.9 How do I enable GPS for determining my location? Swipe down from the notification panel, touch the GPS shortcut switch to quickly enable or disable GPS location services. If you want the navigation function to be more accurate or to use less power, go to Settings > Location access > Location mode.
