In Honor of Steve Kalafer’s Contributions to Somerset County

Whereas, Steve Kalafer has been a vital contributor to Somerset County’s economy, culture, and entertainment for more than 30 years; and

Whereas, Steve Kalafer’s dream of bringing professional to Somerset County came to life when the played their first home game in June of 1999. He was a founding member of the Board of Directors of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball and helped build the league into the premier independent league in the country and ultimately a Partner League of . Where the Patriots are now the AA minor league team for the ; and

Whereas, Steve Kalafer was an unmatched entrepreneur, businessman, and philanthropist. In 1973, he entered the automotive industry and built one of the most respected and successful franchises in the with Flemington Car and Truck Country

Whereas, Steve Kalafer’s was a known philanthropist whose generosity touched organizations serving the people of Somerset County such as the Somerset County Food Bank Network, Chairman emeritus of Somerset County Health Care Foundation, member of the RWJ Barnabas Health’s Board of Trustees, the American Red Cross, and hundreds of other local charities; and was inducted into the NJ Hall of Fame in 2020;

Whereas, Steve Kalafer who was a friend and mentor to many passed away at the age of 71 on April 21, 2021 and is survived by his wife Suzanne, sons Jonathan and Joshua, and five grandchildren; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of County Commissioners of Somerset County hereby recognize the incredible contributions Steve Kalafer has made to Somerset County and to and offer their deepest sympathies and condolences to Steve Kalafer’s family and loved ones.
