U DP135 Research Papers of Rev Carus Vale Collier 1910S Hull History Centre: Research Papers of Rev Carus Vale Collier U DP135 Research Papers of Rev Carus Vale Collier 1910s Biographical Background: Carus Vale Collier was an antiquarian and author of An account of the Boynton family and the family seat of Burton Agnes (1914). Most of his work was done at Langton Vicarage in Malton in East Yorkshire. His files include parish records from the deaneries of Bridlington (including Burton Agnes), Pocklington and Settrington as well as notes from histories of Knapton, Norton, Place Newton, Scagglethorpe, Scampston and Thornthorpe manor. One file contains notes he used for his book on the Boyntons and their Jacobean house at Burton Agnes. There are also a number of postcards and letters addressed to Collier and his correspondents included Arthur Gill, J M Lambert and S L Ollard. Like Collier these were clerical scholars who were interested in local history and the correspondence reveals something of his involvement in the Parochial Documents Commission between about 1918 and 1921. Lambert, who was archdeacon of the East Riding, was secretary of this commission.
