Celebrity News: Dax Shepard Originally Turned Down ‘Parenthood’ for Kristen Bell By Megan McIntosh One of Dax Shepard’s most well-known roles may be that of his role on Parenthood, but according to UsMagazine.com, he almost gave up that opportunity for Kristen Bell. The celebrity couple would have needed to be in a long-distance relationship, but luckily the show was moved from Philadelphia to Los Angeles. Still, Shepard had been willing to make that sacrifice for their relationship and insists that it’s “not easy to work around another human being,” but that it’s worth it. In celebrity news, Dax Shepard almost made a huge sacrifice to be with wife Kristen Bell. What are some sacrifices you should make in the name of love? Cupid’s Advice: It’s not always easy knowing when you should give something up or compromise to make a relationship work. But there are some things that you should be willing to do for your relationship to work and to make a stronger commitment: 1. Time: It may seem like a simple thing but not everyone is willing to give up their time in a relationship. You have to make time for your partner and not let life’s little messes get in the way. It’s important that you there is always time for you and your partner to spend time together. But also be willing to give your partner some alone time as well. • Normalizing Monstrous Bodies Through Zombie Media
Your Friendly Neighbourhood Zombie: Normalizing Monstrous Bodies Through Zombie Media by Jessica Wind A thesis submitted to the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts in Communication Carleton University Ottawa, Ontario © 2016 Jess Wind Abstract Our deepest social fears and anxieties are often communicated through the zombie, but these readings aren’t reflected in contemporary zombie media. Increasingly, we are producing a less scary, less threatening zombie — one that is simply struggling to navigate a society in which it doesn’t fit. I begin to rectify the gap between zombie scholarship and contemporary zombie media by mapping the zombie’s shift from “outbreak narratives” to normalized monsters. If the zombie no longer articulates social fears and anxieties, what purpose does it serve? Through the close examination of these “normalized” zombie media, I read the zombie as possessing a non- normative body whose lived experiences reveal and reflect tensions of identity construction — a process that is muddy, in motion, and never easy. We may be done with the uncontrollable horde, but we’re far from done with the zombie and its connection to us and society. !ii Acknowledgements I would like to start by thanking Sheryl Hamilton for going on this wild zombie-filled journey with me. You guided me as I worked through questions and gained confidence in my project. Without your endless support, thorough feedback, and shared passion for zombies it wouldn’t have been nearly as successful. Thank you for your honesty, deadlines, and coffee. I would also like to thank Irena Knezevic for being so willing and excited to read this many pages about zombies.

  • Big Crowd, Big Celebration at 2008 Family Expo!
Big Crowd, Big Celebration at 2008 Family Expo! The children sat at the feet of African storyteller Madafo, their eyes watching his every move and big smiles spread on their faces as they listened to “The Green Hyena.” He finished the story by emphasizing its moral – “always make good decisions and don’t be greedy,” then asked for some music volunteers. He showed the kids how to beat out rhythms on an assortment of African instruments – a go-go bells, calimbas, rattles, shakers and drums – as the audience clapped and sang along. When they’d finished, it was time for the children to celebrate their performance. “Now, take a bow for your partners, for your African storyteller Madafo used his instruments and tales community, for the Family Expo, for your self,” to entertain children and families. Madafo told them. There were plenty of bows and lots of fun to be had at The Children’s Trust 2008 Family Expo. Lots of learning, too, and giveaways and, well, lots of people. As many as 30,000 children and families flocked to the extravanganza held Saturday, Sept. 13 in Arnold Hall of the Miami-Dade County Fair and Expo Grounds. More than 200 exhibitors staffed booths and handed out information and explained their services to the many interested parents and caretakers. Kassandra Barrios, 28, brought her 1-year-old son Dominick. She waited in line to receive one of the thousands of free books donated by the Miami-Dade Family Learning Partnership. Both Barrios and her husband, who are hearing impaired, though their son is typically functioning.

  • SUPREME COURT of the UNITED STATES Syllabus PLANNED
SUPREME COURT OF THE UNITED STATES Syllabus PLANNED PARENTHOOD OF SOUTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA et al. v. CASEY, GOVERNOR OF PENNSYLVANIA, et al. CERTIORARI TO THE UNITED STATES COURT OF APPEALS FOR THE THIRD CIRCUIT No. 91-744. Argued April 22, 1992 -- Decided June 29, 1992 At issue are five provisions of the Pennsylvania Abortion Control Act of 1982: § 3205, which requires that a woman seeking an abortion give her informed consent prior to the procedure, and specifies that she be provided with certain information at least 24 hours before the abortion is performed; § 3206, which mandates the informed consent of one parent for a minor to obtain an abortion, but provides a judicial bypass procedure; § 3209, which commands that, unless certain exceptions apply, a married woman seeking an abortion must sign a statement indicating that she has notified her husband; § 3203, which defines a "medical emergency" that will excuse compliance with the foregoing requirements; and §§ 3207(b), 3214(a), and 3214(f), which impose certain reporting requirements on facilities providing abortion services. Before any of the provisions took effect, the petitioners, five abortion clinics and a physician representing himself and a class of doctors who provide abortion services, brought this suit seeking a declaratory judgment that each of the provisions was unconstitutional on its face, as well as injunctive relief. The District Court held all the provisions unconstitutional and permanently enjoined their enforcement. The Court of Appeals affirmed in part and reversed in part, striking down the husband notification provision but upholding the others. Held: The judgment in No. 91-902 is affirmed; the judgment in No.
