As the number of coworking spaces around the world continues to grow, we want to share several of their commonalities with you, including how big the spaces are compared to world averages, trends in entrepreneurial endeavors, how spacious the spaces are in relation to their goal of helping businesses thrive, and more.

In this report, we would like to showcase and analyze data, such as size, capacity, and density of close to 6,500 coworking spaces around the world, which have shared their data with Coworker.

Over the last year, we've noticed a trend in the growing sizes of coworking spaces, making this data all the more important to understanding continental space distribution, countries and cities leading the race for larger coworking spaces, and investment opportunities in the industry relative to specific countries around the world.

FINAL THOUGHTS Based on the displayed data, here ar e the most important takeaways that can be drawn from this report

The global average capacity per coworking space was 83 people. The global average size (sq. ft.) per coworking space was 7,308 sq. ft. Asia was the continent with the highest average capacity of 114, compared to spaces in South America that held the lowest average capacity of 54 people. China ranks as the country with the largest capacity, at 282 people on average per space. North America has the largest spaces in the world, with an average size 9,799 sq. ft. per space, followed by Asia at 8,101 sq. ft. per space. Larger spaces in the world tend to be in North America and Asia where construction is new. Smaller spaces are more commonly found in Europe and South America. China is the country with the largest spaces in the world, with an average size of 27,077 sq. ft. Medellin is home to the spaces with the most space for its members, at an average of 264 sq. ft. per person. The range in density (sq. ft. per person) was between 16 and 264 sq. ft., with a global space average of 78 sq. ft. per person.

CONCLUSIONS

Globally we are seeing a trend towards larger spaces. Larger spaces are proving to be more profitable while providing customers with more amenities and creative space. In order to stay competitive, we are seeing spaces expand their own space, move to larger premises nearby, and open up additional locations under their brand. This not only meets the demand for shared office space, but also gives members the flexibility to access new amenities and alternate between locations.
