1. WELCOME AND INTRODUCTIONS

2. MEETING NOTES

The May 2019 CRG meeting notes were accepted.

3. SITE STATUS

P Hastie provided an overview of site activities during the last quarter. • The no. 1 nitric acid plant and ammonia plant were temporarily shut down to repair some minor cracks in equipment. • All plants have been operating at optimum rates and demand for 2020 is looking strong. • The Wincanton, the ship that transports excess ammonia to Orica’s facility in Gladstone, made its 200th voyage. • Orica is preparing to implement a new global, computerised business platform in 2020. • The mid-run turnaround for the ammonia plant in August 2020 is in the detailed development phase. • The Newcastle Herald ran a story on the site’s use of recycled water. G Hyde asked if having the plants shut down for repairs influenced production. P Hastie responded that supply of ammonium nitrate was only slightly affected. T McCauley asked if Orica took advantage of having the plants offline to conduct extra maintenance. P Hastie responded that they did use the time to also perform other maintenance tasks. P Hyde asked about the capacity of the Wincanton. P Hastie said it could hold 6,000 tonnes of ammonia. J Hayes asked if any of the cracking in the equipment was caused by dry ground moving. P Hastie said there was no connection in these cases. R Banyard asked P Hastie about Orica’s views on the proposed gas terminal for Newcastle. P Hastie responded that Orica would like to see lower gas prices to assist with the sustainability of industry on the east coast. R Banyard also enquired about ammonia levels recorded at the Stockton Air Quality Monitoring Station, noting that in previous correspondence with Orica he was informed operations were normal at the time. A Taylor responded that the “spikes” were still well below national standards.

4. OVERVIEW OF SAFETY, HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENTAL PERFORMANCE IN THE LAST QUARTER A Taylor provided an overview of the site’s safety, health and environmental performance in the last quarter. For the period June 2019 to August 2019: • there was one recordable injury • there were no environmental non-compliance events • there were three community complaints relating to the no.1 nitric acid plant start-up • there were two community complaints relating to odour, which could not be attributed to the site • there was one community complaint relating to noise generated from the ammonia plant start- up

5. ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECTS A Taylor provided an update on the arsenic remediation project being undertaken at the site. • The project began with the construction of a 12-metre deep, below-ground cut-off wall. • A cap was built on top of the contained area to provide stability. • A liner was installed over the cap. • Sand and soil were placed over the liner, where grass will be grown. • An infiltration pit has been constructed to take excess water. • Wells have been installed to monitor water levels and show if the system is operating effectively. • The project is due for completion soon, on time and on budget. T McCauley asked about the number of the wells. A Taylor said three wells have been installed inside and three outside the contained area. They will be utilised to monitor the effectiveness of the system.
