The show's stars, Matt Lee and Verity Hunt-Ballard, both won acting prizes. The Walt Disney production also took the coveted best musical award. Geoffrey Rush and Cate Blanchett each won a prize and Andrew Lloyd Webber's Love Never Dies won three. The awards took place at the Sydney Opera House on Monday night. DIRECTOR’S NOTE am so happy and blessed to be in a situation I where my daily life is filled with the combination of theatrical artistry and the inner growth of children. This year our blessings are twofold. We celebrate our 25th anniversary of Summer Theater Camp and we finally get to see our campers in person since 2019. Although things may operate a little differently, the heart of our performing arts goals lives on. It is The Performance Project’s wish that the arts will continue to thrive as an integral part of a child’s endeavors. Additionally, it is our philosophy that amidst a methodical world, a child’s heart always be enlightened by wonderment and enhanced by creativity. SPECIAL THANKS go to… ■ All of our volunteer interns for their extra special attention to our campers and devoted efforts to our productions. ■ The Broward Center for the Performing Arts and The Aventura Arts and Cultural Center’s staff for their constant help and expertise. ■ Jill Kratish for making this all possible. ■ The campers’ parents/guardians for letting us “borrow” your talented children. ■ My staff for their unending dedication and hard work. The education, direction, choreography, technical direction, and musical direction is the collective effort of all the teachers and staff from each venue. I commend them for such incredible teamwork. THANK YOU! ■ The campers for filling our lives with excitement and joy through the arts. Thank you and enjoy the show. The eight-part series follows the hugely talented but damaged 40-year-old Lucky Flynn (Tim Minchin), and fiercely intelligent, tough-as-nails teenager Meg Adams (Milly Alcock) on a life-changing road trip across the beautiful Australian outback, with more than a few bumps along the way. When he learns that his mother only has days to live, Lucky sets off in a hire car to drive the 4000km from Sydney to Perth to say goodbye to her, taking with him his only cherished possession in the world – a battered and scarred upright piano. Meg is running away from her small town family in search of a better life, and has plenty of scars and secrets of her own. Each on their own journey, Lucky and Meg’s lives come crashing together on a long stretch of the Australian highway. • NEW TIM MINCHIN DATES SET Saturday 20 February & Sunday 21 February
MEDIA RELEASE: Monday, 8 February 2021 NEW TIM MINCHIN DATES SET Saturday 20 February & Sunday 21 February We are thrilled to announce new Perth Festival dates for Tim Minchin with West Australian Symphony Orchestra in King’s Park on Saturday 20 February and Sunday 21 February. In rescheduling Minchin’s world-premiere special performance of his brand-new album, Apart Together, we thank all ticketholders for their patience and understanding as we worked through the issues. Perth Festival 2021 now runs from 15 February to 14 March. Thanks to everyone for their patience as we navigated a lockdown together and rearranged the Festival for 2021! All ticket holders are being contacted regarding revised dates and times for their shows. This may take a few days longer than usual. Please note, there is no need to call or email the box office. We will provide further updates as soon as they become available. The two nights under the stars in Kings Park with Minchin, Western Australia’s very own global superstar, and some of the State’s finest musicians promises to be a Festival highlight. Minchin said: ‘When that poor young security guard tested positive, I had only been out of quarantine for a couple of days, and my first instinct was to go, bugger this, and just hop on a plane and get back to my kids. I hesitated though, because as a man who loves a bakery, I know a solid number of consecutive days of doughnuts is possible. ‘And as a friend of Iain Grandage and Perth Festival, I knew the expertise and will would be there to try and reschedule very quickly, should those doughnuts line up.

  • KEEPING AUSTRALIA SAFE Six-Part Series Starts Tuesday, 7 November at 8.30Pm on ABC & ABC Iview
KEEPING AUSTRALIA SAFE Six-part series starts Tuesday, 7 November at 8.30pm on ABC & ABC iview Keeping Australia Safe is arguably the most ambitious observational documentary series ever undertaken in Australia. More than 24 government and private institutions granted privileged access for cameras to record their operations over the same 48-hour period. The entire 6-part series was shot in 2 days – revealing what it takes to protect our national and personal security while asking the central question: “What are the real costs?” While we’re at work, at school or living out the Australian lifestyle who is watching our backs? How real are the threats that we read about every day? Is the sophistication of crime in 2017 matched by the sophistication of policing? With ‘cybercrime’ and ‘terrorism’ on the lips of politicians and police spokespeople, what is the changing face of security in 2017? $35 billion from the Federal Budget is committed to defence. Hundreds of millions of dollars goes to law and order. But does perception match reality? Are the national, state and community resources being directed at real threats or is the ‘hype’ overshadowing our awareness and understanding of what it really takes to keep Australia safe? The series explores what it takes, on a daily basis, to protect our nation as well as our personal safety, through first person storytelling by those on the frontline of the state police, the Australian Federal Police, the army, navy, air force, Australian Border Force, corrections, the courts and community groups working within crime prevention or offender rehabilitation.
