He was widely noted for his soft, baritone voice, which he used to perform in big band and jazz genres and which he used to become a major force in popular music for 3 decades producing many hit songs for Cole. Cole was one of the first African Americans to host a national television variety show, The Nat King Cole Show, and has maintained worldwide popularity since his death from lung cancer in February 1965. Early life Nathaniel Adams Coles was born in Montgomery, Alabama, on March 17, 1919. Cole had three brothers: Eddie, Ike, and Freddy, and a half-sister, Joyce Coles. Ike and Freddy would later pursue careers in music as well. When Cole was four years old, he and his family moved to Chicago, Illinois, where his father, Edward Coles, became a Baptist minister. Cole learned to play the organ from his mother, Perlina Coles, the church organist. His first performance was of "Yes! We Have No Bananas" at age four. He began formal lessons at 12, eventually learning not only jazz and gospel music, but also Western classical music, performing, as he said, "from Johann Sebastian Bach to Sergei Rachmaninoff".

Therefore, a small donation would already be amazing. Today, we’re gonna talk about one of the most beautiful love songs ever: “Too Young” by the legendary Nat King Cole. I couldn’t be more excited. This song is one of my absolute favorites and I hope you’re interested in hearing a couple of facts about it. “Too Young” is one of those legendary classics that, to many people, is much more than just a song.

“The Savior Is Waiting To Enter Your Heart” 3 AUTHOR: Ralph Carmichael May 28th 1927 TUNE: CARMICHAEL COMPOSER: Ralph Carmichael May 28th 1927 Ralph Carmichael was born May 28th 1927 in Quincy, Illinois. He is an author, composer and arranger of both secular and sacred music and a forerunner of what we may call contemporary Christian Church music. He is married to his wife Marvella. His daughter, Carol Parks is an artist.1. Near the end of the 50’s when music was starting to become more Rock oriented, he caught the attention of Nat King Cole and Capitol Records; their joint effort was eventually a work called “The Magic of Christmas”. Carmichael worked with others of Cole’s endeavors through mid-60’s at which point Nat King Cole died of Lung Cancer in 1965. One of the more ambitious projects Carmichael and Cole partnered on was before the singers death was Nat King Cole Sings My Fair Lady (1964). Carmichael arranged for other performers such as Ella Fitzgerald, Bing Crosby, Stan Kenton, and Roger Williams among others including Sue Raney's comeback album All By Myself in 1963. Carmichael even became music advisor and director for the I Love Lucy show during the last few years of the show. But, his most prolific work is clearly in the arena of Christian music. Some would even hang the moniker Father of Contemporary Christian Music on Carmichael because of his pop-rock style and use of 7th chords and ‘sing-able’ lyric flair. He founded Light Records and endeared himself to the Jesus People movement in the late 60’s and 70’s.

This study narrates the import of rock music into church sanctuaries across America via the rise of contemporary worship music (CWM). While white evangelicals derided rock n’ roll as the “devil’s music” in the 1950s, it slowly made its way into their churches and beyond over the next fifty years, emerging as a multi-million dollar industry by the twenty-first century. This study is a cultural history of CWM, chronicling the rise of rock music in the worship life of American Christians. Pulling from several different primary and secondary sources, I argue that three main motivations fueled the rise of CWM in America: the desire to reach the lost, to commune in emotional intimacy with God, and to grow the flock.

  • Ella Fitzgerald Story
Ihre Beinamen waren „The Queen of Jazz“ oder „The first Lady of Jazz“ bzw. auch „The first Lady of Song“.

The dissertation is historically driven, but relies upon an interdisciplinary approach to draw on the insights of ecclesiology, theology, liturgiology, church development, and music. This thesis utilizes a chronological and systematic approach to the relationship between music and the Church of God in the United States during the first 125 years of the denomination’s history, from 1886 – 2011. Making Cole's story all the more remarkable, he began his career not as a pop singer but as one of the greatest of all jazz pianists. Yet by the time he had made the transition from jazz to pop, he had sold more records and racked up more hit singles than anyone in the immediate post-war era, even Frank Sinatra. He was also the first Afro-American pop music superstar - and still the greatest. Cole's baritone voice was sweet and pretty, and most of his greatest successes were with love songs. Still, he had the greatest time of any singer ever, and was equally well-versed in swinging rhythm numbers and blues. In his combination of tenderness and bluesy energy, Cole was a founding father of R&B and a major influence on the soul movement – as cited by Charles Brown, Ray Charles and many other later stars. Like Frank Sinatra, he collaborated closely with the greatest pop orchestrators of all time, particularly Gordon Jenkins, Billy May, Ralph Carmichael, and in particular, Nelson Riddle.
