The paper claimed to be the only National Socialist paper in the United States. Its first issue appeared in April 1935. Pamphlets 1960 Historical note Organized by Fred G. Clark in Cleveland, Ohio in 1939, the American Economic Foundation's goal was to promote the libertarian ideals of a free market and limited government. Clark moved the foundation to New York City in the 1940s, where it continued its education program to improve economic literacy and to demonstrate the virtues of the capitalist system in the U.S. The foundation's economic primer, "How We Live," sold 3 million copies in the 1940s and 1950s, and was used in adult education courses and schools to teach the economics of the marketplace. The organization continued to have a presence into the 1990s, but by 2003 had ceased to exist. Rockwell initially called it the World Union of Free Enterprise National Socialists (WUFENS), but later renamed it the American Nazi Party in 1960 in order to attract more media attention. The party was based largely upon the ideals and policies of Adolf Hitler's National Socialist German Worker's Party in Germany during the Third Reich, but it also expressed allegiance to the Constitutional principles of the American Founding Fathers. It also espoused Holocaust denial. Rockwell began to experience some financial success with paid speaking engagements at universities where

His father, Dr. Bruce Miller was a well known physician and became an attorney later in life. Miller’s maternal grandparents were Austrian émigrés, and his grandfather was an Austrian Jew, but his mother and her sisters took the mother’s Catholic religion. He grew up in the south side of Chicago, boarding at military school at the age of 8 and attending Parker High School. For a brief time, Miller was sent to Florida to live with one of his maternal aunt’s during the worst of the depression. Miller graduated from high school in 1944 and enlisted in the Army Air Corps with the intention of taking officer’s training. After turning 18 in September he did basic training at Great Lake Naval station north of Chicago. After basic, he was posted to Keesler Air Base, Keesler, Mississippi. The war in Europe was winding down at this point and the end of the war with Japan was soon to come. The military was trying to find ways to reduce the number of officers in training and enlistments for after the war. Miller was offered an honorable discharge with full veteran’s benefits which he elected to accept. He continued service in what became the Air Force Reserves. After the military, Miller spent some time at the University of Miami, but returned to Chicago, missing family and friends. Miller worked with his father and became a licensed medical technician.

    Journal of Social Justice, Vol. 9, 2019 (© 2019) ISSN: 2164-7100 Looking Left at Antisemitism Spencer Sunshine* The question of antisemitism inside of the Left—referred to as “left antisemitism”—is a stubborn and persistent problem. And while the Right exaggerates both its depth and scope, the Left has repeatedly refused to face the issue. It is entangled in scandals about antisemitism at an increasing rate. On the Western Left, some antisemitism manifests in the form of conspiracy theories, but there is also a hegemonic refusal to acknowledge antisemitism’s existence and presence. This, in turn, is part of a larger refusal to deal with Jewish issues in general, or to engage with the Jewish community as a real entity. Debates around left antisemitism have risen in tandem with the spread of anti-Zionism inside of the Left, especially since the Second Intifada. Anti-Zionism is not, by itself, antisemitism. One can call for the Right of Return, as well as dissolving Israel as a Jewish state, without being antisemitic. But there is a Venn diagram between anti- Zionism and antisemitism, and the overlap is both significant and has many shades of grey to it. One of the main reasons the Left can’t acknowledge problems with antisemitism is that Jews persistently trouble categories, and the Left would have to rethink many things—including how it approaches anti- imperialism, nationalism of the oppressed, anti-Zionism, identity politics, populism, conspiracy theories, and critiques of finance capital—if it was to truly struggle with the question. The Left understands that white supremacy isn’t just the Ku Klux Klan and neo-Nazis, but that it is part of the fabric of society, and there is no shortcut to unstitching it.

Under both theories, due process requires different procedural safeguards in different situations: a prosecution which fulfils the demands of due process in punishing a direct contempt may not suffice if the alleged contempt was committed out of court. 34 Justice Cardozo, expressing the majority rationale, has suggested that ... we reach a different plane of social and moral values when we pass to the privileges and immunities that have been taken over from the earlier articles of the federal bill of rights and brought within the Fourteenth Amendment by a process of absorption. These in their origin were effective against the federal government alone. If the Four- teenth Amendment has absorbed them, the process of absorption has had its source in the belief that neither liberty nor justice would exist if they were sacrificed.' X3s If this is so, then the climb of our "social and moral values" has been a slow one indeed; even the basic right of freedom of speech was only "absorbed" by the Fourteenth Amendment fifty-seven years after its adop- tion.z36 Admittedly, the denial of jury trial in one class of contempt cases is not of the same broad sweep as the denial of free speech or a free press; perhaps it does not stand on the same plane in the scale of civil liberties. But Justice Cardozo's analysis is not exclusive. Unyielding application of the "inherent power" and "immemorial usage" doctrine by state courts has thwarted all legislative at- tempts to abolish summary proceedings in indirect contempts.

The increasing importance of the latter on the political spectrum, part and parcel of a resurgence of authoritarianism that is presently experienced globally, from the “Old” to the “New” Europe and from China, Russia, and Turkey to the United States and Brazil, has conjured up the specter of “fascism,” even for (the majority of) authors who find the association misleading. As such, despite the deluge of publications trading in the subject with more or less insight, a book that explicitly aims to link the two phenomena and analyze its contemporary iterations as “new faces of fascism” could not be more timely. He represented the Church in every legal matter for five years for free, flying to Peoria to hook up with his client. He did illegal undercover work for Hale. Why risk imprisonment and loss of your law license if you do not believe in Nazi doctrine? The answer is Greenwald was in a relationship with Hale. We know Glenda is gay but what about Hale? For one thing Hale could never consummate a heterosexual relationship. Hale was married to a 16 year old for three months. Her name, according to the Nazis, was THE GLENN GREENWALD / MATT HALE LOVE AFFAIR ―Terra Heron.‖ Then he married Peggy Anderson in 1997 but he was divorced shortly thereafter. Hale was never attracted to women and was unable to perform in bed. He moved back in with his father. He spent 30 years with his father Russell Hale who croaked in 2012.

C. Within a few minutes after the news was out, Carmichael was leading a small gang of Negroes up and down the the streets, storming into stores, ordering the places closed in honor of King, forcing customers and employees to leave."' The gang grew larger and more violent, began smashing windows and looting stores. Negro mobs formed throughout the Negro business district of Washington; and by 9:00 p.m. the sacking and burn ing of the capital had begun. Carmichael slipped away and disappeared from the streets. All night, Negro mobs burned, looted, and robbed, assaulted, murdered, and threatened wholesale slaughter. Scores of whites, including police and firemen, were beaten, hit by rocks, bottles, clubs. Some were kicked and dragged by gangs ofhowling young Negroes. Whites were pulled from their cars and stomped in the streets. Motorcycle officers were hauled from their vehicles, stoned and mauled. Police in cruising cars, and firemen trying to get to fires were targets. One white man, stopping at a filling station to get directions, was clubbed, beaten, and stabbed to death. The violence subsided about 4:00 a.m. Friday, April 5. A few hours later, city and federal officials were meeting with Army people at the Pentagon to discuss the calling out of troops. They decided there was no need for troops. Early Friday morning, controversy arose in the District over the question of whether Stokely Car michael had had anything to do with causing the Thursday night riot.

As detailed in the program, participants dressed in blackface and performed skits for audiences in Portland, Oregon. Programs in the OHS Research Library collection indicate the church performed minstrel shows from the 1940s until at least 1950. During that time, the church moved the show from a single performance at Grant High School to two performances at Civic Auditorium. ON THE COVER: On May 26, 2017, White supremacist Jeremy Christian verbally attacked two young women, one wearing a hijab, on a light-rail train in Portland, Oregon. Three men intervened, and Christian killed Ricky Best and Taliesin Namkai-Meche, while severely injuring Micah Fletcher. In the days following the attack, a powerful, tangible response from the community developed at the Hollywood MAX station — a memorial to the victims that included chalk messages, photographs, candles, and flowers. Jackie Labrecque, then a reporter for KATU News, took this photograph at dawn after someone wrote, in pink chalk, Taliesin Namkai-Meche’s final words: “Please tell everyone on this train I love them.” The memorial, a response to tragedy, also provided hope through a resounding denouncement of hate.
