SETTING THE SCENE The Pirates (2-9), in their fourth season under head coach Edward Joyner Jr., fell 50-43 at Winthrop on Sunday. Junior guard Ramon Mercado led the Pirates with 10 points off the bench, hitting three 3-pointers, while redshirt-sopho- more forward Emmanuel Okoroba added nine points and seven rebounds.
