It is exciting to see how everyone has risen to meet the challenges we’ve faced and found creative ways to pro- mote the club’s mission of “promoting friendship and the sharing of mutual interests.” I also want to thank all our loyal members who have re- newed their membership, and I encourage you all to reach out to both new arrivals in the area and long-standing members of our community to let them know about all the CWC can offer. I’m confident the CWC will be under excellent leadership next year with Gloria Mullendore as President and with a talented board ready to serve. I’m excited to continue serv- ing as Membership Chair next year. As a result less energy has been focused on architecture’s role in mediating the past through its contents. Aid in displaying and interpreting artifacts should remain the museum’s primary design focus because it can provide a more complete understanding of the past. This investigation examines the role of artifacts in understanding the past through the observations of Lowenthal, Lynch and other authors. It analyzes successful museum precedents that facilitate this understanding through architectural space. This information is then applied toward the development of a design case study for a carnival heritage museum in Kinsley, Kansas. This analysis is intended both to serve as a basis for developing a more contextually artifact-specific museum and to provide some insight into the nature of the carousel and traveling carnival in relation to the Midwest.

Until now, historical and aesthetic links between the synagogue and the carousel have not been documented. But "Gilded Lions and Jeweled Horses: The Synagogue to the Carousel" at the American Folk Museum establishes the record. Jewish folk traditions and the skills formed within Eastern and Central European village environments are not staples of the folk repertory. Unlike Pennsylvania Dutch frakturs, for example, polychromed Hispanic santos or Shaker designs, Jewish contributions are not in wide currency.
