I am proud the Labour Party played such a leading role in putting the matter before the people and campaigning for such a landslide victory. Thanks to everyone in West Cork who took part in the campaign, shared their stories, and voted in the referendum. The Dáil will now have to pass the Marriage Bill which will provide in law for the solemnisation of same-sex marriages. HOUSING FAMILY SUPPORT ADAPTATIONS GRANTS The new Back to Work Family Dividend announced in Budget 2015 aims The Government recently announced an allocation of to help families to move from social welfare into employment. BACK TO SCHOOL The Back to School Clothing & Footwear Allowance will issue automatically to 106,460 people in July. This is a very important payment to many families as it helps to provide with the necessary costs for growing children as they head back to school in the autumn. I would urge anyone who feels they may be entitled to this payment to call 1890 66 22 44. 5. LOW PAY COMMISSION The new Low Pay Commission has begun its review of the minimum wage. In 2011 the new Labour-Fine Gael Government restored the minimum wage to €8.65 per hour. The Commission will examine all aspects of employment from pay and conditions to competitiveness and the need to protect existing jobs. Michael supporting Dunnes Stores workers in Clonakilty 6. NEW LAW TO PROTECT WORKERS The new Industrial Relations Amendment Bill will provide legal protection for workers, by bringing in Registered Employment Agreement (REAs). It means that rules about pay and working conditions of workers can be enforced. 7. PUBLIC SECTOR PAY DEAL I am pleased that my colleague Minister Brendan Howlin T.D. has reached agreement in concluding public sector pay talks on behalf of our public servants. This agreement will deliver a €2,000 pay increase over two years. This is the start of a process to restore the pay of public sector workers and will involve a combination of adjustments to the public sector pension levy and a partial reversal of pay cuts imposed in 2010 by the previous Fianna Fáil/ Green/ Independent Government. FROM CRISIS TO RECOVERY 2014 was the year when our economic recovery began to accelerate. Tough decisions have been made but these, along with the determination and sacrifice of the Irish people, have built this recovery. There is still a lot of work to be done to ensure that everyone - every worker, family and pensioner - feels the benefit of the economic recovery. But to do this we need practical and effective policies that copper fasten rather then wreck the economic recovery. And we need an approach that puts the needs of real people and their families before the politics of protest and megaphones. Every step of the way, Labour will continue to guard the public purse, ensure there is no return to crisis and focus on putting money back in your pocket and delivering reliable public services.     AREA PROFILE FOR TOWN DUNMANWAY CO. CORK AGE/SEX In April 2011 Dunmanway had a population of 1,585, consisting of 779 males and 806 females. The population of pre-school age (0-4) was 112, of primary school going age (5-12) was 190 and of secondary school going age (13-18) was 118. There were 247 persons aged 65 years and over. The number of persons aged 18 years or over was 1,180. MARITAL STATUS Of the 1,244 persons aged 15 years and over, 515 were single, 533 were married, 44 were separated, 59 were divorced and 93 were widowed. LIVING ARRANGEMENTS There were 660 private households in Dunmanway in April 2011, of which 224 were single person households. Of the 424 families in the area, 121 were couples with no children. The average number of children per family was 1.4 compared with 1.4 nationally. The adjudicator noticed many improvements since last visiting the village. Your three to five year work programme, formulated as it was in February 1999 is now half way through and you seem to have successfully achieved many of the objectives you set yourselves. Maybe for next year’s competition you could set a timescale against these projects. THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT Many of the buildings of the village appeared extremely bright, fresh and colourful. The charming centrally located Catholic Church looked most attractive, especially the side entrance area off Chapel Hill. The railings to the main entrance on Main Street will perhaps need to be painted up before next year’s competition. The Church of Ireland and grounds looked extremely well maintained. The National School looked extremely fresh but some weeding was necessary to its playground area. The public toilets adjacent to the Abbey looked fine as did the Community Centre. Pad Joe’s looked most attractive in pink with blue trims and its abundant window boxes.

I was born in Lislevane on 31st August, 1896. My parents were farmers. I was educated at Lislevane National School until I was about 12 years of age when I then attended Evening Classes under the Board of Education for four nights each week from 7.15 p.m. to 9.15 p.m. until about the year 1918. In November, 1915, a public meeting to organise a unit of Irish Volunteers was held in Lislevane. It was attended by Terence McSwiney, Cork, who was in Volunteer uniform. This meeting was also attended by Volunteer units from Ballinadee and the surrounding area as well as by units from Lyre and district. Jeremiah O'Brien, Curraheen, was Chairman of the meeting, which was addressed by Terence McSwiney and James Cahalane, Clonakilty. The meeting was attended by members of the R.I.C. from Courtmacsherry and Timoleague, who watched a parade of 32 local men who joined up and paraded after the meeting under Terence McSwiney.
