Parent Council

Parent Council had a positive meeting on Thursday 25th April. Thank you to everyone who came along. Agenda items discussed:  Clarification on school meals provision  PSA and ASN provision  Use of Nurture Space in school  Forthcoming school trips  Fundraising ideas  Staffing  Partnership with HighLife Highland Next meeting date to be confirmed.

Whole School Walk We are planning a whole school walk on Wednesday 1st May leaving at 1pm and returning for 2.30pm approx. We appreciate this is short notice but hope you can join us.

Community Litter Pick Following discussions with Parent Council and our Eco team about Earth Day we will be engaging in community litter picking next Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd when we have reserved litter picking equipment. We have been asked to share the following community information. The “Keep West Beautiful” clean up taking place from Monday to Thursday next week (29th April – 2nd May). Part of the Keep Scotland Beautiful Big Spring Clean, the activity will see volunteers of all ages coming together to make sure the area is looking better than ever.

Each litter pick will last for 2 hours from 6.45pm – 8.45pm and full litter picking kit (bags, pickers, gloves etc) will be supplied. Light refreshments will be available at the end of each event.

Dates and starting venues as follows:

Monday 29th April – covering / Charleston – meeting at Charleston Academy Community Complex

Tuesday 30th April – covering / – meeting at Sea Scout Hut car park, Road

Wednesday 1st May – covering – meeting at the Bught Stop, Torvean Avenue

Thursday 2nd May – covering – meeting at the James Cameron Centre, Limetree Avenue

Swimming P4 Swimming lessons will begin for Primary 4 on Friday 1st May. Please ensure children have their swimming kit and a towel. They do not require money for the lockers. If you are able to help walk with the children please let their class teacher know. Please ensure they have comfortable footwear for the walk to and from the Aquadome.

Inverness Leisure Centre Sessions We are delighted to be working in partnership with Highlife Highland using some of our additional funds this term to provide weekly sessions for P1-7 at the Inverness Leisure Centre. Over the term the pupils will experience athletics, racquet sports, futsal and basketball. There will be a showcase on Thursday 27th June for parents to come along to see what the children have been doing. Details to follow nearer the time. Could pupils come dressed in their PE kit on these days please? The children will walk to the Leisure Centre so please ensure they have appropriate footwear and a jacket.

Class Session Time Please Note P1 and 2 9.30 - 10.30 Pupils will leave school sharp at 9.05am P3 10.45 - 11.45 Snack will be had before leaving the school P4 and 5 12.15 - 1.15 P4 and 5 require a packed lunch to have at the Leisure Centre. (This can be ordered from the canteen, please let the teacher know if your child requires one) P6 and 7 1.30 - 2.30 Pupils will have an early lunch 12.15-1.00

Inverness Science Festival The Inverness Science Festival is taking place from 29th April until12th May. There is a Family Fun Day at the Inverness Leisure Centre on Saturday 5th May. All events and activities are free of charge. Please visit www.uhi.ac.uk/isf for more information. P7 have booked to take part in the Periodic Table Trail on Thursday 2nd May.

Baillie Cup P1-4 are currently preparing for the Baillie Cup. The children have been training at the Northern Meeting Park. The Baillie Cup event will take place on Saturday 1st June. If you have any questions about the Baillie Cup please speak to Mrs McMillan.

National Literacy Trust P2-4 Pupils from Primary 2, 3 and 4 will be visiting the Retail Park on Thursday 9th May to participate in a range of activities that promotes enjoyment for reading. Permission letters will be sent home on Monday.

WOW Challenge Following on from the success of the Big Pedal Challenge our school are going to continue to encourage children to walk, scooter, cycle to school where possible. Each morning the pupils will choose how they have travelled to school. This information will be collected and pupils will be able to achieve different certificates and awards. This week P1 were the most active.

School Trips After discussion with pupils, staff and parents we have decided to offer a different experience to Landmark. All of the children have agreed and are looking forward to this. Following the trips we will evaluate how successful these were with the children. P1-3 pupils will visit Nairn Beach and we are hoping to get the train there and back. We are aiming for Monday 1st July to coincide with the P4-7 trip. The cost of this will be £3 per pupil. P4-7 pupils will visit Kincraig Wildlife Park on Monday 1st July. The cost of this will be £5 per pupil.

See Saw You may already be aware that we are in the process of introducing See Saw instead of Class Dojos. See Saw is GDPR compliant. In order to use this we must have parental consent, a letter will be sent home at the beginning of next week to be completed and returned. We anticipate a slow introduction to See Saw this term and it will be fully operational for the start of the new school year in August. Once See Saw established Class Dojos will not be used.
