Llegaron a Casa #Losnuestros Para Celebrar Llegaron a casa #LosNuestros para celebrar Por Luis Santiago Arce “Los Nuestros”, encabezados por su capitán, llegaron en la mañana de este jueves a la Isla para festejar su gran hazaña mundialista. El receptor Yadier Molina, y el dirigente Edwin Rodríguez, encabezaron el grupo representativo del Equipo Nacional de Puerto Rico, “Team Rubio”, que llegó a la Isla para celebrar en una fiesta de pueblo su segundo subcampeonato seguido en el Clásico Mundial de Béisbol, tras caer la noche antes 8-0 en el juego final de la edición 2017 ante el anfitrión Estados Unidos en el Dodgers Stadium de Los Ángeles, California. (Felipe Torres/CB) Puerto Rico, que llegó invicto a la final tras ganar sus primeros siete juegos del torneo con una dominante actuación, también fue subcampeón en el 2013 con un revés en el partido de cierre ante República Dominicana. La novena boricua, asimismo, se convirtió en un fenómeno de unidad y júbilo nacional, con absoluto respaldo del pueblo. Incluso, decenas de ruidosos y emocionados fanáticos recibieron al exitoso equipo puertorriqueño que llegó al Aeropuerto Internacional Luis Muñoz Marín de Isla Verde en un vuelo fletado de la aerolínea Jetblue, cuyo avión recibió la bendición de los chorros de agua de honor. “De verdad no he estado tan nervioso. Cuando vi toda la fanaticada, toda la gente aquí de Puerto Rico, estoy temblando, pero muy agradecido. Fueron dos semanas positivas, sino para nosotros, sino para todo Puerto Rico. Esa era la idea inicial: decir vamos a unirnos por Puerto Rico. Cualquier cosa que pase, pasa gracias a Dios y llegamos a la final”, dijo Molina con notable emoción en la conferencia de prensa en el mezzanine dentro de la terminal de Jetblue. [EDITORIAL] Puerto Rico brilla en la tarima mundial “No pudimos ganar, pero ganamos muchas cosas positivas. De verdad que dimos de todo… fue un apoyo, una unión de todo Puerto Rico. También llegaron los jugadores Ángel Pagán, Edwin ‘Sugar’ Díaz, José Orlando Berríos, José de León, Joel Piñeiro, Orlando Román, Joe Jiménez, Kennys Vargas, junto a los ‘coaches’ Carlos Baerga, Carlos Delgado, Juan ‘Igor’ Gonzalez y José ‘Cheo’ Dorado. Completaron el grupo el sub gerente general, Cándido Maldonado, y el presidente de la Federación de Béisbol de Puerto Rico, José Quiles. Molina y varios jugadores, al igual que algunos entrenadores, obviaron el llamado de reportarse de inmediato a sus respectivas organizaciones profesionales en Estados Unidos para viajar a la celebración en la Isla. Finalizada la rueda de prensa, y en medio de un fuerte aguacero, los miembros de la novena boricua fueron transportados a dos autobuses turísticos que los esperaban frente al terminal de Jetblue para iniciar una caravana hasta el Centro de Convenciones en Miramar, para cerrar con una jubilosa y colorida fiesta de pueblo amenizada por varias agrupaciones musicales. “Esto significa mucho para nosotros porque sentimos las vibras positivas a través de todo el torneo, lo sentimos, pero sentirlo en persona, ver un pueblo como está aquí presente agradeciendo el esfuerzo de estos jóvenes, que son jóvenes. Este el futuro de Puerto Rico”, expresó Rodríguez. “Queríamos ganar el campeonato, pero el mensaje principal por el que estamos bien satisfechos y bien orgullosos es que tenemos que estar unidos. Este país hay que echarlo pa’lante. Si es por medio del deporte, por medio del deporte, pero este país tiene que estar unido independientemente de las diferencias… las diferencias son buenas, pero si se hace con respeto”, añadió. Al acto asistió un nutrido grupo de funcionarios gubernamentales, encabezados por el secretario de Estado y gobernador interino, Luis Rivera Marín, quien aseguró sentirse “bien contentos en recibir a un equipo que por varias semanas, varios días, nos tuvo a todos pendientes. Nos estuvo llenando de esperanza, logrando levantar en Puerto Rico un orgullo de lo que se puede hacer trabajando en equipo”, declaró el secretario de Estado y gobernador interino, Luis Rivera Marín..

    Clark Fulton Neighborhood Driving Tour Greater Cleveland’s Latinx community has a deep, rich history. Beginning shortly after World War I, Mexicans immigrated to the area to take industrial jobs. Then, during World War II, many from the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico began to migrate to the city, again filling jobs in industry. While the initial settlement of the Latinx community was on the city’s East Side, it moved largely to the West Side by the mid- 1950s. Today, our city hosts several sites and landmarks, both east and west, that relate to this vibrant and ever evolving history. This self-guided tour focuses on sites relating to the Puerto Rican community on Cleveland’s Near West Side. It highlights parks, small businesses, and religious and cultural institutions created and maintained over the years by the Puerto Ricans, who currently constitute the largest segment of our growing Latinx community. The Western Reserve Historical Society is grateful to Selena Pagan and Claudia Longo for their guidance and work in creating this tour. Start the tour at St. Michael the Archangel Church, located at 3114 Scranton Road (on the corner of Scranton and Clark Avenue.) Stop 1: St. Michael the Archangel Church St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church represents the change in Cleveland’s ethnic makeup over time. The church’s congregation began as a mission from St. Mary’s on the Flats, the first Catholic church in Cleveland, in 1881. The original church building burned down in 1891, while the current church was being built. The interior of the building is one of the finest in the Diocese of Cleveland with extraordinary décor and numerous statues.
