Eligibility Criteria for Admission 2018-19 1 SIVANATH SASTRI COLLEGE 23/49 GARIAHAT ROAD, KOLKATA- 700029 ************************************************************ ELIGIBILITY FOR MAKING ONLINE APPLICATION (SEMESTERWISE CBCS) UNDER THE UNIVERSITY OF CALCUTTA FOR THE SESSION 2018- 19 *********************************************************** Admission Regulations as per the University of Calcutta Regulation for Admission to the three year (Six Semesters) B.A./B.Sc./B.Com. (Honours & General) Course under CBCS effective from the Academic Session 2018-19. The students shall be admitted as per the following schedule subject to fulfillment of conditions as laid down in the University Notification No. CSR/03/18 dated 07.5.2018 & CSR/04/2018 dated 07.5.2018 for B.A./ B.Sc./B.Mus.(Honours/General) & B.A./B.Sc./B.Com.(Major) respectively and CSR/26/2017 dated 26.5.2017 & CSR/64/2017 dated 14.9.2017 for B.Com. (Honours/General) Courses of Studies. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR ADMISSION 2018-19 (a) A Candidate who has passed the Higher Secondary (10+2) or its equivalent Examination in 2018 under WEST BENGAL H.S. COUNCIL / ISC/CBSE/OTHER BOARD is eligible to seek admission to the 1st Semester of the 3-year ( SIX SEMESTERS) B.A./B.Sc./B.Com. (Honours & General) course of Studies provided she has also passed in English having full marks not being less than 100. (b) Candidates who have passed the Higher Secondary (10+2) Vocational examination conducted by the West Bengal State Council of Vocational Education and Training shall be eligible to seek admission to the B.A. (General) 1st semester Course of studies taking the subjects under Humanities Division only. However, candidates who have passed the aforesaid H.S.Examination in Business & Commerce shall also be eligible for admission to the B.Com. (Honours) 1st year Course of Studies under this University. However, no candidate shall be allowed for admission after a lapse of more than 5 (five) years from the year of passing the previous qualifying examination. (Explanation: The year of admission shall not be taken into account while calculating five years from the year of passing the previous qualifying Examination). 2 (c) For the purpose of determining eligibility for admission to B.A. /B.Sc./B.Com Honours /General Course, aggregate marks, obtained at the pre-qualifying Examination, shall be calculated by adding the marks in top-four subjects in order of marks, secured by a candidate. However, marks in compulsory Environmental Education/Studies shall not be taken into account for calculation of aggregate marks. If the subject “Environmental Science” is studied as an elective subject of 100 marks, it may be taken into account for the purpose of determining the aggregate marks. (d) A merit list will be prepared and published strictly on merit following the norms set by the college authority as per University rules. (e) Eligibility for making online application, however, does not guarantee admission. (f) Marks obtained in Painting, Art, Fine Arts and other non-allied subjects will not be taken into account. (g) Same user id and password can be used for applying in Honours course for more than one subject and B.A/B.Sc General courses. But the candidate will have to pay additional fees for each subject in B.A./B.Sc Honours and General courses. (h)Foreign Students, including those from Bangladesh, must submit, in advance, Students’ Visa and such other documents as are essentially required under the rules of the Government of India / University of Calcutta. Migrating Candidates Students who have passed the Higher Secondary (10+2) Examination or its equivalent from the All India Boards/Councils (i.e. CBSE, ISC & National Institute of Open Schooling) need not require of submitting Migration Certificate for Registration under Calcutta University. 1.B.COM. HONOURS (A) HONOURS IN ACCOUNTING & FINANCE For General Category: 50% marks in aggregate and 45% marks in Accountancy. 55% marks in aggregate and 55% marks in Maths / Statistics. (For Science Students). Candidates belonging to Reserved Categories taking up Honours Course of Study must have obtained a minimum of 40% marks in the aggregate or 40% marks in the subject or related subjects at the previous qualifying examination, as the case may be. Reservation Policy for admission in three year (six semesters) degree courses of studies shall be guided by the West Bengal State Higher Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission), Act, 2013 and the West Bengal State Higher Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Rules, 2014. 3 Note: 1. The word ‘Subject’ or ‘related Subject’ for B.Com Honours in Accounting & Finance will denote that the applicant must study any of the following subjects at H.S. (10+2) level Accountancy, Business Economics including Business Mathematics, Business Organization , Mathematics, Business Mathematics, Economics, Statistics, Business Studies, Office and Secretarial Practice, Financial Accounting, Elements of Cost Accountancy and Auditing, Book Keeping, Commerce, Cost Accountancy & Principle of Management, Commercial Law and Preliminaries of Auditing, Costing and Taxation. For the purpose of determining eligibility for admission to the B.Com. (Honours)Courses, aggregate marks shall be calculated by adding the marks in top-four subjects in order of marks secured by a candidate. (B) ECONOMICS HONOURS For General Category: 60% Marks in aggregate and 60% Marks in subject or related subject at previous qualifying examination. Candidates belonging to Reserved Categories taking up Honours Course of Study must have obtained a minimum of 40% marks in the aggregate or 40% marks in the subject or related subjects at the previous qualifying examination, as the case may be. EXPLANATION- ‘related subject ‘means MATHEMATICS/BUSINESS MATHEMATICS/ BUSINESS ECONOMICS INCLUDING BUSINESS MATHEMATICS Special conditions for admission to Economics Honours A Candidate shall be allowed to take up Honours in Economics if she has passed in Mathematics at the H.S. Examination (10+2) conducted by the West Bengal Council of H.S. Education or its equivalent examination in Mathematics/ Business Mathematics. Students who have passed Business Economics including Business Mathematics in H.S. (10+2) level from West Bengal Council of H.S. Education are also eligible for admission in the Honours Course in Economics. Candidates of Economics Honours have to take up Mathematics as one of the elective subjects. (C) EDUCATION HONOURS For General Category: 55% Marks in aggregate and 55% Marks in subject or related subject at previous qualifying examination. Candidates belonging to Reserved Categories taking up Honours Course of Study must have obtained a minimum of 40% marks in the aggregate or 40% marks in the subject or related subjects at the previous qualifying examination, as the case may be. 5 Reservation Policy for admission in three year (six semesters) degree courses of studies shall be guided by the West Bengal State Higher Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission), Act, 2013 and the West Bengal State Higher Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Rules, 2014. Note: explanation of ‘related subject’ If the candidate has not studied Education as a subject in the previous qualifying examination then Psychology/ Philosophy/ Mathematics/ Sociology/ Economics/ Political Science / History/ Statistics/ Physics/ Chemistry/ Biology are treated as related subjects. (D)ENGLISH HONOURS For General Category: 65% Marks in aggregate and 75% Marks in subject at previous qualifying examination. Candidates belonging to Reserved Categories taking up Honours Course of Study must have obtained a minimum of 40% marks in the aggregate or 40% marks in the subject or related subjects at the

He did an MA in History, a Research Training Program (equivalent to an MPhil for the Indian Council for Social Science Research) at the Centre for Studies in Social Sciences, Calcutta, and a PhD in Philosophy (in 2007). He also did a one-year certificate course in the History of Sciences at the Asiatic Society, Kolkata. Anirban Das has been a Research Associate in the History of Sciences at the Indian National Science Academy and a Visiting Fellow at the School of Women’s Studies, Jadavpur University, Kolkata.     Loreto College, Kolkata COLLEGE WITH POTENTIAL FOR EXCELLENCE REPORT 2016 – 2017 College with Potential for Excellence 2016 -2017 LORETO COLLEGE, KOLKATA COLLEGE WITH POTENTIAL FOR EXCELLENCE ANNUAL REPORT 2016-2017 Loreto College, a leading women’s college is grateful for having received status under the Centre with Potential for Excellence (CPE) scheme for the third time in the year 2015. The College has been utilizing the grants and continues to use the remaining to advance its standards and for further efficiency. The grant has been used in all the endeavours of the College for the improvement of the teaching-learning process, in fostering research, in raising consciousness about the environment and community welfare, sensitization towards women’s issues and in motivating students to strive for a global academic standard. New courses have been introduced and a few which are in the pipeline will begin as the second part of the second part of the building structure is completed. Observations made reveal that students do and are able to fit themselves in various types of employment worldwide and show, high competency. The faculty members have shown interest in research activities, guiding research at the UG Level and in the organization of events by inviting eminent academicians as guest lecturers; all the high standards are achievable with an efficient network of associations towards the mission of being and the students who have done us proud. On December 30, 2016, Loreto (South Asia) commemorated 175 of dedicated service to women and the girl child in India. It was on the same date in 1841 that a band of young Irish Sisters first set foot on Indian soil at Babughat in Kolkata.
