Dehradun, 12 December, 2011. Chief Minister Major General (Retd.) Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri inaugurated a commercial complex and parking lot near the Clock Tower on Rajpur Road, and also inaugurated the first phase of residential buildings at ISBT, here on Monday. These facilities, which form part of the Chakrata Road Widening Project, were dedicated to the people at a glittering function held on the occasion. Addressing a large public gathering comprising of the displaced traders and residents of the narrow part of Chakrata Road starting from the Clock Tower, Chief Minister Shri Khanduri expressed his gratitude to them. He said that the development of the country and the state is possible with the assistance and cooperation of all the sections of the society. He said that many a times, personal interest is sacrificed for the sake of public interest. The Chakrata Road traders and businessmen have come forward to lend a helping hand and have paved the way for a new beginning in the shape of the ambitious project to widen the Chakrata Road, he said. He said that Dehradun is a favoured destination of travelers from the country and abroad but owing to rising population pressure, the city was unable to cope with the associated environmental and traffic conditions. The State Government is committed to develop Dehradun as a city of international standards, he said. Chief Minister Shri Khanduri said that while it is quite natural for the inhabitants of this section of the Chakrata Road to have developed emotional attachment to their respective places of living, the Government on its part has taken note of this fact and has kept their interests in mind while doing the needful. On the occasion, he also expressed the hope that the business ventures of the displaced traders would flourish and touch new heights in the new complex. Those who were present on the occasion include Vidhan Sabha Speaker Harbans Kapoor, Agriculture Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, Sports Minister Khajan Das, Mayor of Dehradun Municipal Corporation Vinod Chamoli, Zilla Panchayat Chairperson Madhu Chauhan, Rajpur MLA Ganesh Joshi, Srinagar MLA Brij Mohan Kotwal, and a large number of public representatives, officials and eminent persons, among others. According to the available information, the commercial complex and the parking lot have been constructed at a total cost of Rs. 3412.36 lakhs, and the cost of residential flats is Rs. 519.33 lakhs. There are a total of 226 shops besides a parking facility for 444 vehicles. In addition, there are 79 two–room flats for the displaced persons.

Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri laid the foundations stones of four development schemes to be constructed at a cost of Rs. 7428.41 lakhs, and dedicated to the people three schemes worth Rs. 330.83 lakhs, during his visit to Pithoragarh on Monday. Later, addressing a large public gathering at the Dev Singh Grounds here, Chief Minister Shri Khanduri appealed to the people to extend their cooperation to strengthen the initiatives launched by the Government to make Uttarakhand corruption-free and prosperous, and to expedite the pace of development works in the State. On the occasion, the Chief Minister laid the foundations of four development schemes including a Sports College to be constructed at a cost of Rs. 3551.81 lakhs, GNM School to be constructed at a cost of Rs. 1522.86 lakhs, a Nursing College to be constructed at a cost of Rs. 2110.03 lakhs, and, Government Polytechnic Kanalichhina to be constructed at a cost of Rs. 242.71 lakhs. Besides, the Chief Minister dedicated to the people three development schemes including a 60 m span suspension bridge on Dhauli River constructed for the Gram Sabha at a cost of Rs. 123.75 lakhs, a 50 m span qweety Kucked Singh Model suspension bridge constructed at a cost of Rs. 103.54 lakhs, and, a qweety Retighat Majia Dhura suspension bridge constructed at a cost of Rs. 130.54 lakhs. Chief Minister Shri Khanduri said that the State Government is according top priority to the development of remote and far flung areas of the State, especially the border districts. He said that the Government’s endeavour is reflected in its latest initiative to commence a Frontier Engineering College to provide technical education to outstanding students in the border areas. The Chief Minister also highlighted the singular contribution and sacrifices made by the people from remote border areas of the State in the preservation of safety, security and honour of the country. He appealed to the residents to help remove social vices and to come forward to make the State corruption-free. On the occasion, he explained in detail, the various steps taken by the Government to provide medical education to students and other welfare schemes being operationalised by the State Government. Those who also addressed the public meeting include former UP Chief Minister and BJP MP and former Chief Minister Bhagat Singh Koshiyari. Among those who were present on the occasion include BJP leader Thavar Chand Gehlot, Drinking Water Minister Prakash Pant, Agriculture Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, BJP State President Bishen Singh Chufal, BJP State General Secretary Suresh Joshi, MLA Beena Maharana, Dharmendra Pradhan, Geeta Thakur, Ajay Bhatt, Charan Ram, Madhavanand Joshi, Kedar Joshi, Hayat Singh Mehra, Laxmi Lal Verma, BJP District President Kishan Bhandari, and other public representatives. Besides, Commissioner Kumaun Division Kunal Sharma, IGP Ram Singh Meena, District Magistrate Dr. R Rajesh Kumar, SP Nilesh Anand Bharane, and CDO Ashok Kumar, among other administrative and police officials were also present on the occasion.
