Data from 201 Finnish speaking participants were collected via the Prolific Academic Finnish Flow Short Scale platform. To analyse the scale’s factorial structure, we performed Mokken scale analysis, Par- Scale validation allel Analysis, Very Simple Structures analysis and a standard Confirmatory Factor Analysis. Psychometrics Then, we evaluated the correlations between FSS and two other flow scales, the Flow State Scale and Flow Core Scale. Finally, we evaluated the FSS’s ability to distinguish flow-inducing experiences from boring (non-flow-inducing) experiences. Collectively the results showed that an 8-item, two-factor version of the scale was a justified instrument with good psychometric properties. 1. Introduction Flow is a well-known construct describing the experience of harmony between action and awareness, typically in a demanding but intrinsically-motivating task conducted with high skill [4]. As an experiential construct, Flow can only be assessed by some form of self-report. Various instruments have been developed to thus operationalise Flow [7, 12, 15], but these have not been made available in a range of languages in thoroughly validated form. -

Commonly known as the Tokyo trial, Tokyo tribunal, or Tokyo IMT, the IMTFE brought Japan’s wartime leadership to justice for aggression, crimes against humanity, and war crimes committed during World War II. Using rare sources in three languages from public and private collections in eight countries, this dissertation presents a multi-perspective experiential history of the IMTFE in operation. By placing the court in a distinct international moment that produced the United Nations, the Nuremberg trial, the Genocide Convention, and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, among other outgrowths of global community, this work explores the IMTFE as both a groundbreaking judicial undertaking and a pioneering multilateral institution. Other scholars use overly reductive and judgmental constructs based on outside-looking-in perspectives to assess the court’s legal or moral legitimacy without appreciating or detailing its nuance and complexity. This dissertation prefers an inside-out view to explain the trial, not judge it. It describes the IMTFE as a collective endeavour and experience behind the scenes. Chapters review the personal, emotional, administrative, logistical, legal, political, and global dimensions of internationalism in action. -

Laurens Van Der Post and Japan
Section 3 Laurens van der Post and Japan Inaga Shigemi International Research Center for Japanese Studies, Japan Laurens van der Post (1903-1996), along with his co-voyager to Japan, William Plomer, is one of the key literary figures in South Africa's relationship with twentieth-Century Japan. In retracing Post's experiences with Japan and the Japanese, this paper investigates into ethical dimensions of cross-cultural encounters symbolically cristallized in Van der Post's prose full of evocative and poetic power. His first voyage to Japan coincided with the very first Japanese attempt to open commercial trade with South Africa in the 20s, and his friendship with Mori Katsue, the Japanese captain of the ship, Canada Maru, lasted until the Katsue's death in his 90s. While Katsue's image provided Van der Post with the archetypal image of the Japanese, his first experience at sea would later be developed in his adventure novel on whale catching, strongly evoking Harman Mervil. In his last years, Van der Post retraced his discovery of Japan as Yet Being Someone Other (1983). Some Japanese sources on Captain Katsue, which remain inaccessible to non Japanese scholars, can be useful to a better understanding of the fictional dimension implied in this recollection. It would be no exaggeration to suppose that without his Japanese experience 'in 1926, Van der Post could not have survived the Japanese captivity in Java, almost twenty years later. The Bar of Shadow is among the outcomes of his experience of Japanese P.O.W. camps. Although not always highly estimated by native English readers, The Christmas Trilogy, including this story, strangely appealed to the Japanese imagination. -

Managing attention and productivity in distracting mediated workspaces: a research path for multitasking in mediated environments Shili Xiong and Brittany Duff Institute of Communications Research, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, IL {sxiong9, bduff}@illinois.edu ABSTRACT - The rapid shift to remote working environments due to the COVID-19 pandemic is forcing people to work in a mediated workspace that causes (in)attention and productivity issues. Previous attention research mainly revealed that divided attention and simultaneously conducting multiple tasks are cognitively harmful to task performance. In this paper however, we use a media psychology perspective to rethink the cause, process, and outcomes of multitasking, and propose a counterintuitive notion that strategic distraction could potentially be beneficial in a mediated workspace: (1) strategically adding another task can motivate people to continue their current work by stimulating emotion; (2) during the multitasking process, the additional task can "herd" attentional resources and inhibit task-irrelevant distractions; (3) new measures that evaluate the breadth of multitask processing (e.g., creativity, flexibility) might reveal beneficial outcomes that wouldn’t be discovered in a single-task condition. Future directions of the multitasking research should systematically connect causes, processes, and outcomes together rather than looking at them in isolation. The CCD movement is the title generally assigned to a variety of approaches associated with this activity. The Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) is an association of clergy and lay faithful, within the Catholic tradition, established in the 16th century, devoted to the work of Catholic religious education. In the 20th century the principal concern of the CCD came to be the religious education of Catholic children who were not in Catholic schools. -

Assignments, evaluation tools, and teaching strategies for a specific collections of short stories, short stories, film, and an oral interpretation of various Japanese and Chinese tales are then illustrated in detail. The remainder of the outline contains an annotated bibliography of Japanese, Chinese, and Korean literature, suggestions to help students make personal and critical connections between stories, a list of materials used in the course, the pre-test and post-test evaluation, and additional sources for the course. -

Rather, the widespread emergence of female sports reporters can be traced to the 1920s, when gender-based notions about employment and physicality changed substantially. Those changes, together with a growing leisure class that demanded expanded newspaper coverage of athletic heroes, allowed as many as thirty-five female journalists to make inroads as sports reporters at major metropolitan newspapers during the 1920s. Among these reporters were the New York Herald Tribune’s Margaret Goss, one of several newspaperwomen whose writing focused on female athletes; the Minneapolis Tribune’s Lorena Hickok, whose coverage of a male sports team distinguished her from virtually all of her female sports writing peers; and the New York Telegram’s Jane Dixon, whose reports on boxing and other sports from a so-called “woman’s angle” were representative of the way most women cracked the male-dominated field of sports journalism. -
