Whether we want to admit it or not, gender stereotypes underlie men’s and women’s perceptions of each other and influence the outcomes of their relationships to a significant extent in modern society. The romantic comedy movie entitled “The Ugly Truth” (2009) was chosen as the object of analysis for the presented study because of its identity as a popular culture product and because of its interspersion with examples of gender stereotypes conforming to the hegemonic masculinity view. The main objective was to find out through what particular stereotypes the hegemonic masculinity view gets implanted into popular culture products, which in turn implant and ground it into people’s mindsets and behavior. Conclusively, the analysis demonstrates that the stereotypes of hegemonic masculinity are still a powerful driver for the functioning of modern society, while stereotypical thinking in general is also a deeply ingrained coping mechanism that allows both men and women to function in the hegemonic masculinity-driven version of society.     REMEDIATING THE EIGHTIES: NOSTALGIA AND RETRO IN BRITISH SCREEN FICTION FROM 2005 TO 2011 Thesis submitted by Caitlin Shaw In partial fulfilment of the requirements for the award of Doctor of Philosophy De Montfort University, March 2015 2 3 ABSTRACT This doctoral thesis studies a cycle of British film and television fictions produced in the years 2005-2011 and set retrospectively in the 1980s. In its identification and in-depth textual and contextual analysis of what it terms the ‘Eighties Cycle’, it offers a significant contribution to British film and television scholarship. It examines eighties- set productions as members of a sub-genre of British recent-past period dramas begging unique consideration outside of comparisons to British ‘heritage’ dramas, to contemporary social dramas or to actual history. It shows that incentives for depicting the eighties are wide-ranging; consequently, it situates productions within their cultural and industrial contexts, exploring how these dictate which eighties codes are cited and how they are textually used. The Introduction delineates the Eighties Cycle, establishes the project’s academic and historical basis and outlines its approach. Chapter 1 situates the work within the academic fields that inform it, briefly surveying histories and socio-cultural studies before examining and assessing existing scholarship on Eighties Cycle productions alongside critical literature on 1980s, 90s and contemporary British film and television; nostalgia and retro; modern media, history and memory; British and American period screen fiction; and transmedia storytelling. Chapter 2 considers how a selection of productions employing ‘the eighties’ as a visual and audio style invoke and assign meaning to commonly recognised aesthetic codes according to their targeted audiences and/or intended messages.

In situations where the path to goal attainment is not clear or obvious, a problem exists, and you will have to engage in problem-solving behaviors” (Gerow, 1989: 27). In fact people cannot solve their problem automatically through their daily lives. Human being cannot be separated from the phenomenon and reality of life. Some people can drive and solve the problems. But some person give different response; they may see the problem as a border and find no way to solve the problem. One of the complexities of the problem itself consists of sadness. It appears when people have unfaithful feeling, hesitation and anxiety, which appear, in life as evident that as a human being has thought and feeling to face and try to solve his problem. Human being in facing their problem some-times uses their superiority to face their problem. Superiority is one of individual psychological principles. The person is indivisible unity in regard both to the mind-body relationship and to the various activities and function of mind.

Unit Description An extension to the current model for treating problem gambling is obtained by including strategies for optimal gambling, correct gambling and eradication. Part 1 outlines correct gambling where the analysis of casino games is derived such that a player can gamble with the aim of minimizing losses. The analysis obtains distributional characteristics of profits, the distribution of profits and the percent house margin. This analysis is applied to games of Keno, Roulette, Big Wheel, Let it Ride Poker, Casino Stud Poker, 3 Card Stud Poker, Casino War, Red Dog and Video Poker. The probabilities of obtaining outcomes in basic strategy Blackjack, Pontoon and Pai Gow Poker are combinatorically difficult to calculate. However, there are strategies in such games and these strategies are obtained. Mathematical and logical reasoning to poker machine regulations are given as suggestions for amendments to the “the Standard” with the purpose to increase consumer protection. Katherine Heigl has been here before, it’s true: uptight, clueless, freshly single, and named Jen. But this time the man she meets and marries has a secret. And since that man is the Nikon Coolpix pitchman Ashton Kutcher, you’re eager for his confession: Babe, I sell cameras. Instead, she discovers that he’s a killer for hire and that the $20 million bounty on his head has made their friends and neighbors eager to kill him. The movie begins in Nice then moves to suburban America (with lots of scenes for Catherine O’Hara, as Heigl’s alcoholic mother, to put in her pocket). The license plates say Georgia but those generic multimillion-dollar houses on small winding streets say Wisteria Lane. There’s a car chase between Kutcher and the comedian Rob Riggle that takes place in an unfinished home construction area, which, given the housing crisis, may eventually replace the empty loading dock as bad movies’ new climax location.
