RESOLUTION

MURRAY FROMSON

WHEREAS, Murray Fromson is a recipient ofthe 2012 Faculty Lifetime Achievement Award from the University of Southern California; and

WHEREAS, Murray Fromson's career injourna1ism spans more than three decades; and

WHEREAS, Murray Fromson was an Associated Press and CBS News Correspondent and Producer who covered both the Korean and Wars, the former , and two U.S. presidential campaigns; and

WHEREAS, Murray Fromson also covered major stories such as the armistice talks in Korea, the end of the U.S. occupation in Japan, the 1965 war between India and Pakistan, and the U.S. Apollo program that put the first men on the moon; and

WHEREAS, Murray Fromson and his CBS News colleagues were awarded two Overseas Press Club Awards for their reporting on the fall of Saigon in 1975; and

WHEREAS, Murray Fromson became a founding member of the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press in 1969 and represented journalists involved in court challenges that tested their First Amendment rights; and

WHEREAS, Murray Fromson was a moderator of the PBS program, "California Week in Review" and was the producer of the nationally syndicated program, "Eric Sevareid's Chronicle"; and

WHEREAS, Murray Fromson joined the University of Southern California faculty in 1982, and served as Director ofthe School of Journalism from 1994-1999; and

WHEREAS, Murray Fromson was the founder and director of USC's Center for International Journalism and recruited 115 working journalists to earn their Master's Degrees; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that by adoption ofthis resolution, the City Council does hereby commend Murray Fromson on his numerous professional accomplishments and community contributions and congratulates him on receiving the prestigious 2012 Faculty Lifetime Achievement Award from the University of Southern California.

Rahman Mojallal

WHEREAS, Bahman Mojallal has been a leader for the special event industry in the Iranian American community for nearly 30 years; and

WHEREAS, Bahman's creativity and vast ability has been seen in television shows, live performances, social events, and community events; and

WHEREAS, Bahman is a very active participant in his community serving six years, on the board of the Lake Balboa Neighborhood Council, providing space and equipment for all meetings; and

WHEREAS, in 2011, he became a civilian member of the City of Los Angeles Fire Department's Community Emergency Response Team; and

WHEREAS, he was the president of the Iranian American Chamber of Commerce; a boardmember of the Iranian American Parent Association; and on the board of directors for the Iranian Jewish Oral History Organization; and

WHEREAS, he has been instrumental in celebration of the Persian New Year, "Norooz" in the City of Angeles for the past several years,and

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that by the adoption of this resolution, the Los Angeles City Council joined by the Mayor, the City Controller and the City Attorney do hereby thank Bahrnan Mojallal for his many years of service to the community and as a business owner in the City of Los Angeles.
