  • News Letter of Diocese of Kurnool, March 2020
BISHOP’S MESSAGE here is a time for everything and a time for every happening under heaven,” Tsays the book of Ecclesiastes 3:1. In the same way season of Lent is the time for prayer fasting and almsgiving. Prayer, fasting and almsgiving are important and are the three pillars of Lent. Without prayer, fasting and almsgiving merely our actions we do, out of tradition, without much meaning. Prayer is our conversation with God. It is through prayer that we find the strength to fast. It is through prayer that we develop a closer, more intimate relationship with God. This relationship makes us so grateful for the blessings he has bestowed upon us, that we eagerly give to those less fortunate than us. Jesus prays to the Father and gives thanks before receiving his gifts, “whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you receive it and it shall be done for you. Mk 11: 24. Such is the power of prayer and of faith that does not doubt. All things are possible for him who believes (Mk 9:23). Jesus is saddened by the lack of faith of his own disciple and at the same time He had a great admiration at the faith of the Roman centurion and the Canaanite woman. Christians, in particular the monastics, have spent centuries struggling to understand and practice the meaning of prayer. Lent becomes a season for increased efforts in dialoguing with God and in being with God both in silence and in worship. If we cannot attain to unceasing prayer because of our current state in life, at least we can spend more time in the awareness that we are in the presence of God, no matter where we are or what we are doing.

VEDANTAM OF THE INDIAN ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICE DIRECTOR OF CENSUS OPERATIONS ANDHRA PRADESH PUBLISHED BY THE GOVERNMENT CF ANDHRA PRADESH 1973 THE Sl-JAHI .lAMIA MAS.lID, ADONI The motif given on the cover page represents the 'Shahi Jamia Masjid' at Adoni popularly known as the Jumma Masiid. It was constructed during the reign of Emperor Taneh Shah who ruled over the Bijapur Sultanate in the Deccan, in 1079 Hijri (1667 A.D.) by Sif;ldi Masood Khan Ghazi, the Governor of Adoni. The Jumma Masjid is renowned for its stateliness in appearance. "A fine specimen of the florid Architecture of the period", in the words of the historians, Ferguson and Meadows Taylor, this masiid is perh<Jps the most elegant of its kind in S~>uth India. It is said that an enOl mous amount of two lakhs "Dinars" was spent in those days on its construction. The Jamia Masjid of Adoni and the Holy Kaba of Mecca are stated to be having square floors of equal space. The mosque, built within a courtyard surrounded by an enclosing wall, contains fine facades of fifteen black stone slabs and five arches on which sermons from the 'Quran-e-Shareef' and 'Hadise Shareef' were carved in both Persian and Arabic, While the many splendid paintings engraved on the doorways ifl geometrical and floral designs reflect the elegance and magnificence of the Indo Sarcenic architectural style. Siddi Masood Khan Ghazi, the founder of this mosque is said to have brought from Mecca the heirs of the original Khateeb, Pesh Imam and Mouzan to render the religiOUS services in the mosque.

  • The Excluded in Relief and Rehabilitation”
“The Excluded in Relief and Rehabilitation” Survey of post-flood situation of Dalit victims‟ access to relief and rehabilitation in Andhra Pradesh floods of 2009 Commissioned by National Dalit Watch & Dalit Watch-Andhra Pradesh National Dalit Watch- National Campaign on Dalit Human Rights Dalit Watch-Andhra Pradesh The Dalit Watch-AP is a coalition comprised of grassroots organisation working on issues pertaining to Dalit rights and empowerment. This includes the Sakshi Human Rights Watch, Dalit Bahujan Sramik Union AP (DBSU), Mamidipudi Venkatarangaiya Foundation (MVF), Confederation of Voluntary Associations (COVA), Bhavita, PARA, OOTA, ROADS, SAFE, PREACHERS, SPEAR, and Indira Mahila Chaitanya Mandali, as an immediate response to the September-October 2009 floods in Andhra Pradesh, that left millions affected. Though this disaster was not „casteist‟ in its destruction, the bitter fact is that the Dalits and Tribes, with their women, children, disabled and aged were the most vulnerable of the vulnerable. Stories covered by the media on the subject further motivated us towards a planned intervention regarding the implementation of relief operations and schemes. Hard facts of instances of discrimination and exclusion caused the formation of this network in AP to defend the rights of the Dalits in disasters. It was named Dalit Watch-AP, and decided to work under the aegis of National Dalit Watch (NCDHR). National Dalit Watch The National Dalit Watch (NDW) is an initiative of the National Campaign on Dalit Human Rights (NCDHR) which has emerged from an informed recognition of the rampant discrimination and exclusion faced by Dalit communities during disaster response and mitigation. Building on the experiential base of NCDHR in exposing and countering exclusion in some of the major disasters of our times (Tsunami in 2004, Bihar Floods in 2007 and 2008), NDW has been working towards developing tools and methods to identify, expose and document this form of discrimination.
