Award-Winning Producers and Engineers to Headline Hi-Res Audio Pavilion at Ces CONTACT: Alex McKenna 424-371-5573 [email protected] AWARD-WINNING PRODUCERS AND ENGINEERS TO HEADLINE HI-RES AUDIO PAVILION AT CES Demonstrations feature a variety of Studio Quality Recordings LOS ANGELES (December 8, 2016) – Working in cooperation with The Recording Academy® Producers & Engineers Wing®, DEG: The Digital Entertainment Group today announced the complete roster of award-winning producers and engineers who will be participating in the Hi-Res Audio Pavilion at CES. The Pavilion, which is located in the Central Hall (booth#14546) of the Las Vegas Convention Center, features a fully-equipped rendition of a world-class recording facility that, in addition to ongoing presentations on the benefits of hi-res sound, will showcase a series of live demonstrations. This first-of-its-kind exhibit at CES will provide attendees with insight into the process of creating high-resolution studio-quality recordings, and perspective on how to better appreciate these recordings as a listener.” Delivering the Studio Experience The Hi-Res Audio Pavilion features a number of hi-res recordings that deliver studio quality sound, which are available from dozens of major and independent music labels via a number of hi-res music stores and services. There will also be demonstrations of hi-res devices from leading companies like Astell&Kern, AudioQuest, Autonomic, Bluesound, dCS, DTS, ELAC, Mytek, Onkyo, Samsung Electronics, Sony Electronics and Westone. Additionally, the Hi-Res Audio Pavilion is supported by the American Association of Independent Music (A2IM), the Japan Audio Society, MQA Ltd., the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and the Consumer Technology Association. Additional information concerning the Hi-Res Audio initiative will be announced during CES at 12pm on January 5 in room S228 of the LVCC.     TOTO Bio Few ensembles in the history of recorded music have individually or collectively had a larger imprint on pop culture than the members of TOTO. Bruce had previously enjoyed working at Fox’s Newman Scoring Stage (an earlier studio bau:ton design). Also, principal architect Peter Grueneisen had been involved in the renovation of Bruce and Marie Botnick’s Richard Neutra house in LA. Completed in mid-2004, UnitEye, a word play on the facilities address, is indeed stunning to look at, but it is primarily designed for the ears. Five free standing Nautilus speakers and a subwoofer are positioned around a Digidesign Icon console for a permanent 5.1 surround setup. The large space and plentiful ceiling height facilitated ideal room proportions, and no compromises were needed to lay out a generous facility, tailored to the needs and preferences of its owner. Bass traps and curtains control the sound throughout the space, while indirect and recessed lighting and a flush mounted flat panel video monitor tie together the visual aspects of multi-media production. A wide skylight, which allows natural daylight into the room, focuses the calm environment inside the main studio space, without creating glare or heat gain. A friendly atmosphere is created by applying Echo Eliminator™ and Sound Silencer™ panels, environmentally friendly alternatives to fabric and fiberglass.

    by Larry Crane | Photographs by Larry Crane Mastering engineer Gavin Lurssen has been behind the console since 1991, won three Grammys and one Latin Grammy, and runs Lurssen Mastering — one of Southern California's busiest facilities. He's worked on records like Robert Plant and Alison Krauss' Raising Sand and the Foo Fighters' Sonic Highways, as well as with clients like Ben Harper, Queens Of The Stone Age, Eric Clapton, Miranda Lambert, Rickie Lee Jones, and Elvis Costello. The fascinating Lurssen Mastering Console app/plug-in recently came out, via IK Multimedia, and was developed with Gavin and Reuben Cohen of Lurssen. How much of a lead time do people give you as a mastering engineer? You know, in the early days when I started out this whole thing, it was in '91. There was always a production coordinator. People would book the mastering session about six weeks ahead. Sometimes three months ahead. Nowadays, they get finished with the record, book the mastering, and expect you to be available instantly. I see that all the time. Especially with independent bands or artist-financed projects. We figured out a way to do it though. You get together, gather the team and say, "This is the game we're playing, this is the field we're on. How are we going to make this work?" Then we do it. What kinds of things have you implemented in order to have faster turnaround? Well, it's how fast, how affordable, and how good. The "how good" thing is covered, because of what we do.
