FEBRUARY/MARCH 2019 MID-SEASON ISSUE

By Curtis Bell, CMSC Trip Chair

On January 11, 2019 a group of 22 Cleveland Metro Council CMSC members traveled across the Atlantic to do some skiing in St Anton, , the birthplace of took 22 members to modern skiing. At the time of this article being written the trip is under way with several days left. After arriving, a major snow storm St. Anton, Austria hit St Anton dumping over a couple feet of snow the first day and a few more the second day. This made the avalanche level high causing many in January parts of the mountain to close. What remained open had epic conditions and on Tuesday many parts of the slopes started opening with great conditions. During those first two days we had so much snow and wind that we had very low visibility, but that didn’t stop several die-hard skiers in our group to go out and ski from 9 to 4. On Monday several of us planned on taking the train on a 1 ½ hour train ride to Liechtenstein but due to an avalanche our train was no allowed to leave the station. On Tuesday several people decided to go to for the day via train ride but that too was canceled since we were isolated due to both roads and train tracks being closed. This did not worry us or dampen the enjoyment since we were surround - ed by great snow. Peek’n Peak Resort opens Monday night before dinner we had a group picture with the owner See St. Anton page 3 immersive nighttime snow tubing experience

Peek’n Peak Resort has unveiled an all-new snow tubing experience, Lunar Lights Snow Tubing! The all-new Lunar Lights Snow Tubing transforms nighttime snow tubing into a thrilling and mesmerizing atmosphere, featuring an ever-changing light show produced by thousands of LED lights and projection lights. The lights pulse, fade and change in coordination with an immersive sound system. On select dates, the massive sound and light program will be oper - ated by a live DJ. There’s no other experience quite like it in the area. In fact, only a handful of resorts in the country are offering such a radical snow tubing party. “After months of planning, we’re thrilled to introduce our all-new snow tubing experience, explains Nick Scott Sr., President of Scott Enterprises, which owns & operates Peek’n Peak Resort. “This activity is perfect for families, group outings and date nights. Lunar Lights Tubing is another perfect opportunity to celebrate winter at Peek’n Peak!” Between runs, guests are carried back to the top of the 7-lane snow tubing hill by a Magic Carpet lift, which is similar to a moving conveyor belt. There’s no need to struggle with hook - ing a tube to a moving cable or hauling your tube back to the top of the hill. Afterward, guests can heat up with hot cocoa, warm sandwiches and soups served right at the base of the tubing hill. Or, head to the nearby Retreat building for a full menu featuring burritos, pizzas, grill combos and more. Lunar Lights Snow Tubing will be available every Sunday and Monday, then Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights for the remainder of this season. Snow tubers may purchase a 2-hour pass for $20. There’s no additional cost for the experi - ence, which begins shortly after dusk. Snow tubing is friendly for guests aged three years or older. Peek’n Peak has something for everyone, with special events and live entertainment every weekend. Visit pknpk.com for more information.
