  • What Is Settebello? Pulcinella Vera Pizza Napoletana Salt Lake City Las Vegas
What is Settebello? Settebello is the most valuable and sought after card in the popular Italian card game Scopa. A deck of Scopa cards consists of 40 separate cards in 4 different suits. The suits include clubs, swords, cups and gold coins. The Settebello is the nickname given to the seven of gold. Whichever player holds the settebello at the end of a hand is awarded a point. The settebello can also aid a player in winning a point for the primiera as well as for the player who holds the most gold cards. A typical game of scopa is played to 11 points. Scopa is an extremely popular card game in and around Napoli. Pulcinella Pulcinella, often called Punch or Punchinello in English, is a masked clown from Commedia Dell’arte. His celebrated temperament is crafty and even mean at times. He is characteristically worry-free with a legendary passion for good eating, and will typically show whichever face necessary to gather friends, or even foes, together around a table for sweet wine and good food. Ultimately, it’s Pulcinella’s positive approach to life that has won him the adoration of the masses. Vera Pizza Napoletana The Vera Pizza Napoletana (VPN) was established by Antonio Pace in Napoli, Italy in 1984. Signore Pace led a group of pizza makers whose sole purpose was to protect the integrity and defend the origin of the pizza making tradition as it began in Napoli over 200 years ago. The VPN charter requires that members use only specific raw ingredients to create the pizza dough, that the dough be worked with the hands, never using a rolling pin and that it be cooked directly on the surface of a bell shaped pizza oven that is fueled solely by wood.

  • The Three of Swords
The Three of Swords T. Antoni Grabiec "The Three of Swords is the Worldly principle and Universal Archetype of Sorrow, Negative Thinking and Mourning. This is Sorrow which is held in the mind, and thinking about past events and experiences that produced a negative thinking pattern. This Marvellous Archetype comes to teach and remind that to move forward in Life it is necessary to let go of these patterns which no longer work. It is about changing your own perspective in thinking, about letting go of the past so you can live in the Now and move forward with elegance and Determination to a brighter and more fulfilling peace of Heart and Mind." THE UNIVERSAL PRINCIPLE AND ARCHETYPE OF SORROW, NEGATIVE THINKING & MOURNING “Without forms or reason, the mind must give way to a consciousness higher than itself. The Three of Swords represents the wondrous trance of sorrow that first enlightened the Buddha. We should all be so lucky to draw Sorrow from the deck.” - Understanding Aleister Crowley's Thoth Tarot (Lon Milo DuQuette) The Three of Swords is the Worldly principle and Universal archetype of Sorrow, Negative thinking and mourning. This is the state of sorrow which is held and re-worked in the mind, representative of negative thinking about the past, in particular dwelling on past experiences that produced a sorrowful heart, in effect mourning for the past. 2 The Swords piercing the lotus blossoms symbolize sorrow that has pierced to the very core of our nature, also symbolized by the petals falling from the stem into the deep void of eternity.

  • The Four Elements and the Minor Arcana of Tarot a Free Webinar/Teleclass with Christiana Gaudet, CTGM
The Four Elements and the Minor Arcana of Tarot A Free Webinar/Teleclass with Christiana Gaudet, CTGM Most traditions honor the classic elements of life, which are earth, air, fire and water. Metaphysical properties are ascribed to these elements, in addition to their obvious physical properties. While traditions differ on particulars, that so many elemental traditions exist is remarkable, and a testament to the importance of their study. Many traditions include a fifth element, which is ether, or spirit. In tarot, the fifth element is ascribed to the Major Arcana, although one of the four elements is also assigned to each of the Major Arcana cards. A grasp of the four elements is essential to tarot understanding and interpretation. It also offers an important tool for meditation and magick, and provides a format for tarot spreads. CANAL Issue Two / Spring 2018 / The Department of World Languages & Cultures The University of Massachusetts Lowell ______________________________________________________________________________ Florentine Minchiate: The Fool’s Journey ____________________________________________________________CAMERON WALSH “The random conditions presented by a hand of cards are a metaphor for the circumstances one is born into [...]. The playing out of a hand of cards can be seen as a microcosmic reflection of the ever-changing world around us […].” -Timothy Husband, The World in Play: Luxury cards 1430- 1540 (10) Ordinary decks of playing cards that most people are familiar with are made up of 52 cards containing four suits: Spades, Hearts, Diamonds, and Clubs. Additionally, a deck has kings, queens, and jacks as face cards as well as number cards 2 through 10. Instead of a 1, th ere is an ace which has the highest value. There are also two jokers which some times are not used. These modern suits were adopted into tradition from 15th-century French playing cards. Card games were introduced to Europe in approximately the middle of t he 14th century, probably from the Near East through Venice or from the Mamluk sultanate in Egypt through southern Italy, Sicily, or even Spain (Husband). Early card decks in Italy incorporated suits such as Cups ( copper), Swords ( spade), Batons ( gastonia), and Coins ( denari). Playing cards in Germany did not follow any standardized symbolism until the late 15th century when the suits became Acorns ( Eichel), Leafs (Laub), Hearts ( Herz), and Bells ( Schele). Additionally, the number of cards in German decks often varied.
