Aumie from Salmon Arm At just two years old, Aumie was diagnosed with germ cell cancer. She came to Ronald McDonald House BC in October 2014 and finished her treatments in March 2015. Aumie spent time at the House with her mom Yuko and her older sisters, Hannah and Anjou.

8 Ronald McDonald House BC and Yukon Strength in Community Ronald McDonald Family Room An extension of the House, the Ronald McDonald Family Room is a ‘home’ within the hospital for parents to rest and re-charge just steps away from their child’s bedside, keeping them close to support family-centred care for families with a seriously ill child. Located within Surrey Memorial Hospital, BC’s first Ronald McDonald Family Room is a 2,000 square foot haven with four overnight sleep rooms, a kitchen, showers, lounge, laundry facilities, play spaces and a quiet area. Located outside the hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, the space provides parents with newborns a respite from the hospital setting.

Hayley from Princeton Hayley has been fighting cancer since June 2014, and has stayed at RMH BC - or “the big, big house” as she calls it - since it opened. She is finishing up her intensive treatment, and happily, is heading home soon.

Catlin from Port Hardy Catlin has a blood disorder – severe aplastic anemia – and required a bone marrow transplant as part of his treatment. He has been recovering at Ronald McDonald House BC for the past several months, but is looking forward to going home to spend time with his 8-year-old brother Tanner.

Devin from Penticton Devin has been fighting cancer since early June 2014, and has stayed at RMH BC with his dad Gord, while his mom stays at home with his older brother. “The House is a great set up for him: he never gets bored and we spend time in between treatments playing basketball, ping pong, video games and pool.”
