Chairman’s Report

Welcome everyone to 2020. A new decade dawns in Football with some very exciting trends and a new era of leadership, sports innovation and program creation emerging in our Sport.

2019 was a busy and successful year as we continued to grow and expand into a wider area of our region, the surrounding areas and into FNSW competitions.

It was fantastic to see so many new members joining our large Football South Coast membership – more than ever before. Football was still the success story of all sports and was once again the leading and inclusive participation sport of this region and in the nation. Season 2020 is going to be as strong for our membership as it was in 2019.

Governments, MPs, Councillors and business should take note that Football South Coast is now four times larger than the next largest sport in the Illawarra. That is a very deep and wide reach effect into all of our local communities.

The Board of FSC are proud that as an organisation, our performance, particularly in 2019, has been successful as measured against our Strategic Plan and across three key measures (detailed below). The fact remains all of our previous years’ successes including 2019 are there for all to see:

(1) SUCCESS: of our sport both on and off the field with (i) large player registration numbers, (ii) large club/team participation, (iii) creation of new community competitions, (iv) improving football facilities, (v) opening of an all-weather football facility, (vi) creation of new FSC business models, (vii) new sponsors with community connection partnerships, (viii) ensuring FSC has strong commercial financial stability and sustainability, (ix) dynamic strategic plan focused on diversification, investment in infrastructure / football assets and player development (e.g. like FSC All-Weather Football Facility, a FSC Members owned Property) and (x) Board/Organisational succession planning. Success is also measured by our Corporate Governance standards and our open, regular, timely and appropriate communication.

(2) ACHIEVEMENTS: in developing and advancing football operations across all of our competitions and programs for all our participants through; FNSW licenced pathways and our representative club, improving club infrastructure and facilities, creation of community inclusive programs, ensuring the highest quality of FSC Competitions and finally, sustainability of all our programs and competitions.

(3) CREDIBILITY: and trust with ALL of our Community – in simple terms this means: “doing what we say we will do” by being: (i) open, (ii) transparent, (iii) honest, (iv) timely, (v) equally fair to all concerned with all our communications and behaviour, (vi) delivering on all our goals, strategic plans and football programs and (vii) providing consistency in leadership, decisions and policy. This ensures that all stakeholders can be assured that FSC delivers on best business practices and adheres to community focused principles.

The Directors of FSC are proud to have gained overwhelming support from our football community over the last number of years as we all stand together to tackle the difficult and challenging issues facing the future of our game. The Directors, Football Councillors, together with the support of the management and operations team are all committed on creating football competitions that ensure our game is always inclusive, played fairly and equally by everyone of all abilities, all ages and all genders at the lowest possible cost to our members and our community.

Page | 3 Football South Coast – 2019 Year in Review

2019 was an extremely busy year for everyone at Football South Coast with the opening of FSC’s first ever all weather artificial pitch at Ian McLennan and creating a commercial business model for the running of that facility, expanding FSC competitions, the growth of South Coast Flame and youth development programs, the expansion of FSC’s Female and Community League Competitions plus the restructuring of the Referees Football Council.

An urgent project that has suddenly emerged - very late in 2019 - is the relocation of the FSC Headquarters to a new property, as the Fraternity Club Board advised FSC that it required the FSC leased Office Space for their own business purposes and requires FSC to vacate by 30th June 2020. It was great that the strongest support from our members was for FSC Directors to secure a permanent FSC home.

The success of football creates many challenges for the Directors but one of the highest priorities for 2020 is to improve facilities such as lighting as FSC and our clubs tackle to meet the “supply demands” of our sport.

FSC Board’s strategic plan is in its final year of its 2 to 3-year cycle and I am pleased to report that FSC has delivered on many elements of that original strategic plan, including the Board’s South Coast Flame FC plan and strategy, which continues to develop and is providing football in this region with the opportunity of an additional step towards a state representative football pathway.

So, as I welcome you to the 2020 Season, on behalf of my Board of Directors and our MD/CEO Ann-Marie Balliana and her team, I hope you enjoy 2020 and that you and your families, experience great fun times in football. I wish you all lots of great health, long periods of happiness and many great lasting memories this coming year.

Finally, thank you all for your great support and for being part of this large football family and please don’t be afraid to contact me if you have any questions, ideas, suggestions or just want to help us.

CEO’s REPORT

It goes without saying that football is a team sport, and as much as this is the case for on field performances, it is also part of football off field activities across the association and all of our clubs.

Delivering competitions for 13,000 registered players across 80 clubs and our many different programs and community activities is at times very challenging, however the support from all members of our football family continues to be tremendous to allow us to be the biggest sport in the Country, State and region.

I would like to thank the following people for their continued support and contribution to our game:

• The FSC Board, all of the Football Councils and Committees for their tireless work in allowing our association to continue to grow • The many clubs committee members and volunteers that contribute endless hours to their clubs • The fantastic FSC staff who always go above and beyond their roles to support all of our stakeholders

2019 was our first year managing our own facility with the completion of the synthetic pitch at Ian McLennan Park. It was a proud moment after the many years of work to enable the region to access a much needed facility.

The utilisation of the pitch was high resulting in the following uses throughout the year including; PSSA School Sports, High School tournaments, wet weather catch up games and training, pre-season games and trials, Junior Competition games every Sunday, FNSW State Cup and Champion of Champions, FFA Cup Games, School Holiday Clinics, Summer Football and various Finals and Grand Finals across all of our competitions.

Clearly our biggest challenge lies in the infrastructure needed to support our game and its growth across our region including work around irrigation, drainage, lighting, amenities and storage across our football facilities. FSC will continue to support clubs in the implementation of infrastructure priorities and regularly discuss these issues with all levels of government.

In terms of sponsorship and corporate support, we once again thank the wonderful organisations that support football in the Illawarra. These included; IMB Bank, The , Besteam, Fryer Barry Orthodontists, Figtree Physio, Villa D’Oro, The Fraternity Club, Peoplecare, Fuji Xerox, Ochre Health, ANE Electrical, Sportzology, Guzman Y Gomez, RMB Lawyers, KPMG, and South Coast Floor Coverings.

In 2019 we also welcomed MM Kembla, Dapto Leagues Club, The Grange, Printing and K and R Fabrications as new corporate sponsors. Seafood Brothers have recently also pledged their support. We sincerely thank all of our sponsors for their support.

Other highlights for 2019 include:

- Expanding our community and development partnership with Sydney FC; - Women’s Youth League expanding to two divisions with potential further growth on the horizon; - The expansion of our competitions with Gerringong Breakers FC and Moss Vale part of our Community League and Women’s competitions respectively; and - The successful commencement of the Community League over 45’s competition.

Community Programs and Support

IMB Bank Female Gala Day

The IMB Bank 2019 Female Football Gala Day was held in September at Terry Reserve, Albion Park and was once again a great success.

It was an opportunity to celebrate Female Football Week through small-sided games and skills clinics.

Sydney FC signing, Mackenzie Hawkesby, was on hand to give the players some tips and pointers. (Pictured above – Players from the IMB Bank Female Gala Day hosted at Terry Reserve)

The Disability Trust – FSC Knights and the Sports Ready Gala Day

FSC continue to provide programs such as the FSC Knights, with the program now in its sixth year.

The program is strongly supported by the Disability Trust and assists players with mixed abilities and children with autism, Down Syndrome and mild intellectual disabilities to play football and participate in the mainstream local junior competition.

(Pictured above – The first game of the season between the FSC Knights Corrimal Rangers)

FSC Football Development Manager, Jonathan Forster & Sydney FC Fan Development Officer, Enzo Sansone participated in The Disability Trust annual Sports Ready Gala Day. The guys spent the day running football activities for over 200 primary students from 15 schools between Shellharbour and Miranda.

Walking Football

Walking Football is a great addition to FSC Competitions with social games held weekly. It’s huge in the UK and a great way to keep playing football. The program focuses on passing rather than speed/running; and highlights the health, well-being and social benefits of regular football and exercise activities.

Refugee Football Program

In 2019, FSC continued its partnership with Multicultural Communities Council Illawarra (MCCI) to deliver a refugee program which started as a 10 week program in 2018. Given the demand for the program this continued in 2019 throughout the year.

The program is one of the most popular run by MCCI with participants from Syria, Pakistan and Afghanistan. The program unites these members of the community through their love of football. Many of the participants are now looking to participate within the FSC Winter Competition.

(Pictured above: Participants from a MCCI School Holiday Clinic held with FSC Community Development Officers)

FSC Involvement in other Community Programs and Initiatives Fundraising Initiatives Illawarra Women’s Health Centre The Women’s Competition held a Charity Round for cash donations and the collection of goods to support women accessing the service.

National Youth Week is an opportunity for young people to share ideas, attend live events, have their voices heard on issues of concern to them, showcase their talents, celebrate their contribution to the community, take part in competitions and have fun.

FSC Coaches conducted activities at Berkeley Neighbourhood Centre and for the Multi-Cultural Communities Council Wollongong.

Relay For Life is a chance for communities to recognise and celebrate those who have overcome cancer or are undergoing treatment, as well as the people who care for them.

In what has been a busy 2019, we look forward to the season ahead, and wish all of our clubs, volunteers, players, coaches and referee’s a wonderful 2020 football season.

HEAD OF COUNCIL REPORTS

JUNIOR FOOTBALL COUNCIL

Once again, the teamwork and support of all Football South Coast (FSC) team members working together, has contributed to the success of the season. The collective contributions of all of us at FSC has shown that together we can achieve so much.

Together, we all play a vital role in refining and improving football and its delivery to Junior Clubs across our region. This means that young players are provided with many opportunities to develop and grow their football skills. Whenever I see so many junior players striving to achieve their best while enjoying the game, it gives me a great deal of pride to know that all of us have been part of a young players ability to develop.

At times the 2019 Junior Football season was very challenging however, the consistent commitment and support of the team from the FSC Board to the Junior Council, junior club committees, volunteers, coaches, managers, parents and players, have made the job just that little bit easier.

I would like to acknowledge my fellow Junior Councillors for the commitment and wisdom they bring to Council, how we work together to address contentious issues and problem solve, has earned my deep admiration and gratitude. A special mention to Councillor Regina Moran on receiving a FNSW State Award in recognition for her tireless efforts for Football South Coast and services to football in the local community. Congratulations and very well deserved.

I extend my sincere thanks to our supportive FSC administration staff: David Ware and Debbie Hoyn, for their outstanding management of all our competitions.

This season junior clubs had the opportunity to play and train on our first synthetic pitch and they enjoyed the new experience and are looking forward to the future use of the facility.

I would also like to thank our Junior Football major sponsor, IMB Bank and other FSC sponsors, for their support this season and the important roles they have in helping to make football happen.

It was also very encouraging to be able to witness and see our junior clubs representing Football South Coast at the FNSW Association tournaments. Congratulations to all the League Champions, Grand Final Champions, all the participants and successful club teams in the FNSW State Cup and Champions of Champions. You have all made Football South Coast very proud of your achievements.

To our Junior Clubs that hosted semi-finals, finals and FNSW State Cup matches - a very special thank you to you. Our appreciation goes to the Shellharbour Junior Soccer Club, who once again hosted a very well coordinated and enjoyable 2019 Grand Final weekend. It was particularly challenging given the weather conditions however, they put in a mammoth effort, in their planning and hosting of the three day event.

I feel encouraged when seeing the growth in the development of our junior referees over the past twelve months. The professional and tireless work ethic they have shown this season, with the ongoing support of the Referees Coordination Council (RCC) is recognised and acknowledged. A special mention to Councillors Leigh Blanch and Paul Flemming from the RCC, for their efforts in coordinating our referees during this season’s Junior competition, Junior Finals series and representative competitions.

Thank you to everyone for their continued support and I look forward to building on our relationship throughout the coming season.

Bring on the 2020!

Joe Seco

MEN’S FOOTBALL COUNCIL

On behalf on the Men’s Football Council I would like to thank and acknowledge the support of our volunteers. Without the volunteers, there would not be match days, no facilities to play on, and no opportunity for our players to shine. We need to nourish our existing volunteers, and find ways to encourage new volunteers, these new volunteers are the future of our clubs and competitions. A lot of our volunteers have been around for a long time, when they can no longer give, someone else will need to fill their void. We must take every opportunity to continually thank them and importantly work on ways to make their volunteering lives easier and more enjoyable.

Thank you to our Match Officials, they have contributed significantly to all the memories we take away from our football experiences. I would encourage all Clubs to have a chat to their retiring players and suggest that they take up the whistle and join the ranks of the referees.

We would also like to acknowledge the input and support of Eddy De Gabriele (FSC Chair) and Ann-Marie Balliana (CEO and MD). The support from Bobby Mazevski our Competition Coordinator combined with an ever increasing workload, along with his colleagues from the office has been outstanding. Further acknowledgement must go to our Match Reporters and Photographers, wherever they went, they went equipped (even when not “on-duty”) and captured the moments magnificently.

Season 2019 kicked off with a very successful Fraternity Club Pre-Season Cup, after a great deal of rain beforehand had the Final going ahead in some doubt, with Corrimal Rangers FC winning the Trophy.

(Pictured above – Clubs. From left; Cringila Lions FC, Corrimal Rangers FC, Tarrawanna Blueys, Woonona Sharks FC, South Coast United FC, Bulli FC, Wollongong United FC, Coniston FC, Wollongong Olympic FC, Fernhill FC, Port Kembla FC and ) Our competitions started shortly afterwards, with very competitive and a high level of football being played. Both the Illawarra Mercury Premier League and Peoplecare District League had some very big upsets on some match days, but it was quite evident that as we got into the second half of the season that the respective League Champions in each grade would come from just a few teams, however again upsets would occur from time to time to keep the competitions close. In Premier League, the battle to avoid possible relegation was also very tight, going down to the last couple of games.

Page | 14 Football South Coast – 2019 Year in Review

The Competitions were conducted while we had some clubs participating and going deep into the FFA Cup, congratulations to those clubs that participated and did us all proud, clubs also participated in our Fraternity Club Bert Bampton and Youth Cups, these Cups won by Bulli FC and Tarrawanna Blueys SC respectively.

Congratulations to Wollongong Olympic FC and Bellambi Rosellas FC who were crowned Premier League and District League Champions respectively. Congratulations to those teams that were also crowned League Champions in the other Grades.

Our Grand Final days were huge, four of the six matches were won by the underdogs, special congratulations to Corrimal Rangers FC (Premier League) and Bellambi Rosellas FC (District League) on being crowned Grand Final Winners.

Pictured above– Illawarra District League Clubs. From left; Shell Cove FC, Thirroul Thunder, Oak Flats Falcons FC, Helensburgh Thistle, Berkeley FC, UOW FC, Bellambi Rosellas FC, Kiama Quarriers FC, Unanderra Hearts FC, Warilla Wanders and Balgownie Rangers FC). It was a very competitive and successful 2019 Community League Season. The League Championships were decided by one Win or less in six of the nine competitions, three of those League Champions finished on the same points as the Runners Up. Following the completion of the competitions an exciting finals series ensued with some surprise results making for some interesting fixtures on Grand Final Day. Our Grand Finals were all played at Ian Mc Lennan Park, where all present were presented with nine highly entertaining matches. The last match played under the blaze of floodlighting going into an exciting penalty shootout after the match was sent to extra time in the last minute of play.

2019 saw the introduction of the Over 45s competition after a few years of trying to get it off the ground. The competition was well received and proved to be a hit. Port Kembla Zebras 66 being crowned inaugural League Champions and subsequently going on to also be crowned Grand Final Winners. It was great to see how the players took to playing their football against older competition. Feedback from players around them not having to chase around younger players and being able to enjoy themselves more, was pleasing to hear. A high class entertaining brand of free flowing football was seen from players who still have all the skills from their younger years and now a bit more time on the ball. An expanded Over 45s competition in 2020 featuring more teams will see teams being able to play more matches.

(Pictured above – Community League Division 1 Clubs . From left; Gerringong Breakers FC, Uni Wolves, Coledale Waves, South Coast United, Oak Flats, Albion Park City FC, Dandaloo FC and Uni Spurs)

All the successes on the field unfortunately resulted in work for our Match Review Committee and Tribunals and I must acknowledge the great job done by the Disciplinary Commissioner – Rex Leighton, the consistency and outcomes delivered has been great.

A special thank you to my fellow councillors, Kevin Wiseman (Deputy Head of MFC), Darryl Waller, Peter Dent, Frank Gigliotti, Marcello Chiodo, and Alex Viselli. Their dedication in going above and beyond each time they are called upon and continually giving is outstanding, often at the eleventh hour, their efforts have delivered benefits to us all.

It would be remiss of me not to mention Bruce Cunningham the former Head of the Men’s Football Council who resigned late in the season for personal reasons. His support for football was (is) unwavering, and his guidance was immense and on behalf of everybody, thank you.

Yours in sport.

WOMEN’s FOOTBALL COUNCIL

The Women’s Council would like to thank its 2019 sponsors. The Grange who sponsored the All Age Women’s competitions, as well as MM Kembla who sponsored the Women’s Youth League.

2019 saw the return of the pre-season Bonnie Lassie Cup that was hosted by Shellharbour Junior Football Club. It was an extremely successful tournament where over 400 players participated across the two Sunday’s. The overall Cup Winners were Albion Park and our Plate Winners were Wollongong United. We had 100% referee coverage of these games over the tournament with many junior referees getting a taste of senior football by being ARs. We thank the referee committee for the support of this tournament.

Another successful Charity Round was held on the 26th of May with many teams raising money and supplying goods to the Illawarra Women’s Health Centre. We will be looking forward to our second year supporting this grateful charity in 2020.

We would also like to thank all players and officials for a successful season that concluded with our Grand Finals taking place on the synthetic pitch at Ian McLennan Park.

In The Grange Grand Finals, Division 1 Albion Park were too strong for UOWFC, completing a very successful team season. Division 2 saw UOWFC defeat league champions Figtree, meanwhile Division 3 had Tarrawanna defeat Oak Flats Wildcats. In Division 4, Corrimal took out the double with a win over Wollongong United and our Division 5 grand final also had Figtree secure the double defeating Coniston in extra time.

Congratulations to the League Champions for all grades. Division 1 Albion Park, Division 2 Figtree, Division 3 Tarrawanna, Division 4 Corrimal, Division 5 Figtree.

This year saw our joint Women’s/Junior WYL competition start to grow and had the draw split into two divisions after the first round of competitive matches. In the first division, Wollongong United proved too strong for fierce rivals Shellharbour in their grand final, also taking out the overall League Championship trophy.

Albion Park and UOWFC represented FSC in the FNSW State Cup competition with Albion Park claiming the trophy with a win over Epping FC. Albion Park continued their outstanding season by making the final of the end of year Champions of Champions competition, finishing their season off with a resounding 9-2 win over Southern and Ettalong United FC. Wollongong United’s WYL team also took out the Champion of Champions title in the U21s competition with another dominant display, defeating Greystanes FC 8-2.

We have also continued to develop our players within the league by holding Goalkeeping training throughout the year and would like to thank Belinda Barter for her continued time and commitment to Women’s Football in the region.

REFEREE COUNCIL

Season 2019 saw a change to the Referee Council structure. There were some initial teething problems and a couple of personnel changes before we settled in as a council and got on with refereeing.

Our referee numbers did not change greatly for 2019 and again we stretched resources to the maximum again. I would like to thank our senior referees for their commitment throughout the season and backing up each and every weekend.

I would also like to thank a group of our more senior junior referees who step up and play an invaluable role each week in supporting our senior referees as AR’s in our Men’s competitions. Many of these referees split their time between Sydney and Wollongong to gain more experience and become better referees for our competitions.

Finding new referees for all our competitions remains a priority for the referee council and we are always looking at many areas to boost our numbers.

During 2019 we had great support from the FSC office staff, particularly Jas and Sonya who worked very closely with the referees and took onboard the majority of our administrative work allowing us to deal with other areas that required council time.

To my fellow councilors, Leigh Blanch , Rex Leighton , Paul Flemming , thank you for the many, many hours of your personal time to make sure we have referees educated and on the park each week. Your commitment is something to be proud of.

Bruce Whalan and Martin Rowney have helped to steer the ship in the rough patches throughout the year and without their knowledge and help I am certain we may have run aground at some stage. I cannot thank you enough from a personal point of view for your input.

I must thank my wife , Kerrie for her understanding for the many hours out at meetings and supporting me taking on this role.

Finally , I thank everyone for allowing me the privilege of taking on the role of Head of Council and the support that I received from the FSC Board that helped us make the transition for the referee council.

I hope that we can make the 2020 season the best season for players, coaches and especially our referees.

Dennis Makin

Head of Referee Council

FOOTBALL DEVELOPMENT MANAGER REPORT

Flare Football Program 2019 saw the launch of the new FSC Flare Football Programs. The Flare concept was born out of the need to provide more flexible development opportunities to meet the needs of our region’s players and parents. These opportunities included; 1 on 1 coaching, small group coaching, season long group coaching and In-Club coaching and our school holiday clinics. Our goal is to continue to provide professional, structured, coaching sessions in accordance with the FFA National Curriculum Building Blocks for players in the Discovery and Skill Acquisition age groups.

Flare Football In-Club Coaching Program

The introduction of the Flare Football In-Club Coaching program has been a huge success for 2019.

Working closely with the association junior clubs, the aim is to bring qualified FSC coaching staff to the clubs and provide group training for age groups identified by the club themselves on a term to term basis.

Feedback from our clubs was that they could see noticeable development in the players and that having FSC present allowed their club coaches the opportunity to observe the sessions to take back to their own teams.

We would like to thank the junior clubs of Unanderra, Figtree, Fernhill, Albion Park and Gerringong Breakers for their support throughout the season and we look forward to working with our region’s junior clubs again in 2020.

Flare Football School Holiday Clinics

FSC school holiday clinics continue to provide a great opportunity for our regions youngsters to continue to play the game whilst on school holidays. Located across the region, the 4-day holiday camps are filled with structured, safe, fun football activities for the players not to mention the opportunity to meet new friends.

Sydney FC Partnership

Last year Football South Coast strengthened ties with Sydney FC in a partnership to deliver School Holiday Clinics. In 2019 this was expanded to include the Skills Training Program which replaced the previously known FSC Academy.

Located in Wollongong and Albion Park, the program is designed to provide development opportunities for our region’s players on a term to term basis, working with accredited Sydney FC and FSC coaching staff on the Sydney FC Youth Development Vision and Philosophy.

Football South Coast Cup

Ian McLennan Park hosted the inaugural Football South Coast Cup competition for girls and boys Under 12s to Under 16s in the July school holidays.

The competition provided a great opportunity for local club’s and our regions representative club players to compete in the small sided format competition throughout the week. The games were competitive and played in the right spirit throughout and we look forward to expanding the competition in the 2020 school holidays.

Skills Acquisition Program

Our representative players enjoyed another successful year in the Girls and Mixed SAP programs.

The program continues to be recognised amongst other Technical Directors across NSW. The players themselves worked extremely hard throughout the season with their attitude and application to learning at training and on game day a real credit to our region.

GirlsWe wishConference all players League all theProgram very best going on to play in NPL1, OurNPL2 Girls and Conference association League football. representative squads continue to set the standard in the NSW competition after another incredible season in 2019 following on from that in 2018.

All three squads played exceptional football throughout the season accumulating in our Under 14s and 15s becoming minor premiers and grand final premiers in their respective competitions and our Under 17s finishing 2nd in the regular competition season and reaching the preliminary finals.

(Pictured above; Players from the U14 GCL Team who were League Champions and Grand Final Winners)

Association Youth League (U13s-U16s)

The Association Youth League program enjoyed success in 2019 as the players and coaches continue to prepare for National Premier League 2 football in 2020. The hard work by all involved is clearly evident with some of our players moving onto higher levels of football for the up and coming season.

The highlight of the season was our Under 13 boys finishing 2nd in the regular season, unfortunately missing out in the preliminary finals and our Under 15s also finishing 2nd in the regular season and losing out in the grand final.

South Coast Flame Seniors

The South Coast Flame Senior squads continued to grow and build on the great work in our first year as a senior club in 2018. The improvement in performances and results across the Under 18s, 20s and 1st Grade was there for all to see resulting in our 1st Grade reaching the preliminary final.

(Pictured above; Players from South Coast Flame GCL, AYL and Seniors in their team gear for 2019)

Development Programs 2019 saw the arrival of two new FSC season long development programs for 7-8 year old’s (Pre SAP- Development Program) and 9-12 year old’s (SAP Development Program). The Pre-SAP program provided the opportunity for those younger players to train with FSC SAP coaches throughout the season and be exposed to Skill Acquisition style training in preparation for 2020 season. The SAP Development Program provided players who were identified by our FSC staff at trials and in the community to continue their development with FSC SAP coaches and to supplement their training alongside their club commitments. The training for both these programs was focused on the technical development of the player as outlined in the FFA National Coaching Curriculum

The Association Youth League Development program continued in 2019 for Under 13 to Under 16s age group who were identified by FSC coaching staff as showing potential for representative selection. The program involved one night a week technical coaching and tactical training sessions with the Association Youth League squads to understand the FSC playing style and philosophy. The players involved were a credit to their club demonstrating an excellent attitude and commitment to their development. We wish all the players all the very best in the 2020 season.

Coach Education

Football South Coast continues to deliver Community Coach Education courses for our region’s coaches. In an area of the game that is vital for the future development of our region’s players, it was great to see so many coaches attend the courses throughout the season, engaging and buying into the FFA National Curriculum Vision and Philosophy on player development.

In the Advanced Coach Education pathway, Football South Coast again hosted an Advanced AFC/FFA Youth C Licence at the Illawarra Sports High School. As course presenter, it was a real pleasure working with our coaches who all share the common goal of Youth Development, to ensure our players are given the best opportunity to develop and reach their full potential.

2019 was an exciting year at community and representative levels. The introduction of Flare Football has been a huge success in the community pathway with great numbers of our association players being given more opportunity to develop their football and to enjoy the game. In the representative pathway, we continue to deliver on providing the best development opportunities for our most talented players and representing our region with respect and professionalism at all times.

Thank you to everyone involved in our great game across the region. Your hard work is hugely appreciated.

Jonathan Forster

FSC Football Development Manager

LIFE MEMBERS

Many individuals give countless hours of their time, unquestioned loyalty and a dedicated service to the game of Football. Without these wonderful and dedicated people, our beautiful global game of football cannot and could not have prospered and would not have provided that basic enjoyment to our community, of a simple game of football every week.

Prior to unification the Illawarra Referee Association (IFRA) the Illawarra Women’s Football Association (IWFA), the Illawarra Junior Football Association (IJFA) and the Illawarra Football Association (IFA) honoured some wonderful contributors of the game:

CONTRIBUTION TO FOOTBALL RECIPIENTS

FNSW State Award: Regina Moran

State Award winners are nominated by their Association in recognition of their tireless efforts and service to football in their local community. State Awards formally recognise individuals who have provided consistent and valuable service.

In 2019, Regina Moran was the Football South Coast recipient of this award. Here is a summary of Regina’s contribution to football:

Regina has been involved with the Albion Park Football Club since 1998 and in an official capacity since 2001.

Although her children no longer play, Regina is very dedicated to junior and women's football. From cutting the grass to marking lines, attending all club association meetings and more recently has been very supportive in the FSC summer football campaign at Terry Reserve.

Regina is also on the FSC Junior Football Council and has been a tremendous worker in all aspects of the women and junior competitions.

FSC SUMMER FOOTBALL

Since its inception in 2013, Summer Football has become an integral part of the football calendar. A ten-week competition is run from October to December and in 2019, there were a record number of players (close to 2000) that participated.

In 2019, games were held across numerous locations which included Thomas Dalton Park, Holy Spirit College and mid week at Ian McLennan Park. The competition provides a great opportunity to play in a social environment with friends and keep players active.
