February 5 2011 the party ™ POWERED BY MOTOROLA XOOM SATURDAY february 5 2011 CENTENNIAL HALL at FAIR PARK DALLAS, TX the party ™ POWERED BY MOTOROLA XOOM SPONSORED BY: TM TM event overview event overview The word is out – nobody does it like Maxim! The Maxim Party during Super Bowl weekend is the most sought-after event of the year and 2011 proved to be no exception. Celebrities, VIPs, sports icons and industry movers and shakers flocked to Centennial Hall at Fair Park, home of the Texas State Fair, to celebrate the most highly anticipated party of the weekend. This year’s party, coined The Maxim State Fair powered by Motorola Xoom, brought to life all the elements of a traditional state fair but with Maxim panache. Partygoers indulged in Patrón margaritas topped with wads of cotton candy, tray-passed caramel apples and a variety of deep fried treats while models outfitted in fair inspired attire heated up the party atmosphere. The fun didn’t stop there as guests tried their luck at several midway style games including bushel basket, ring toss and many more for the chance to walk away with collectable prizes. A skee-ball zone also gave the eager-to-win a chance to rack up tickets and trade them in at the prizes booth for a variety of sponsor products. As if that wasn’t enough, Motorola Xoom bumper cars and a 35’ Ferris wheel kept guests’ party appetites satiated throughout the night. The bash drew the biggest stars in town, including Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson, Olivia Munn, Adrien Brody, Michael Phelps, Jerry Bruckheimer, Jillian Michaels, Erin Andrews, Joe Jonas, Adrian Grenier, Terrell Owens, Mark Sanchez, the cast of Glee and many more! DJ Ross One and DJ Vice provided the music with special performances by Ravi Drums, Jason Derulo and Wyclef Jean. It pretty much goes without saying that Maxim proved everything really is bigger in Texas! event overview invitation invitation fold-out poster fold-out Multi-panel Multi-panel Invitation: Invitation: Early Admission tickets for Maxim VIPs Maxim for tickets Admission Early This is not a ticket. The red carpet was spacious and once you were inside, there was plenty to do throughout the night. It was literally a carnival the fifth down: brought to life with a Ferris wheel, skee-ball, balloon darts, SUPER Bowl Parties GO BIG IN TEXAS go-carts and other theme park staples. They even had prizes for those talented gamers including speakers, headphones and cologne. The dance floor was the busiest I'd seen at any party over Super Bowl weekend and there wasn't a soul in the party not having a good time. None topped the Maxim party, where so many of the famous turned out that they had to wait in line at the VIP entrance. Maxim held its party at Centennial Hall, The celebrity turnout was stellar and stars were strolling home of the Dallas fair, and in keeping with that theme, there were bumper cars, around the party if they weren't dancing near their VIP table. ring tosses and stuffed animals aplenty. One 20-something-year-old man ran up to Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis, gave him a stuffed penguin and said, “I won this …they'll have to settle on 10 horseshoes. Best party of the just for you!” week by far. …Revis joined a host of fellow celebs in VIP, everyone from MC Hammer and Adrien Brody to Jerry Bruckheimer and Michael Phelps. february 7, 2011 OLIVIA MUNN ON How SHE Manages february 7, 2011 SOCIAL Anxiety Actress Olivia Munn hits the red carpet for the Maxim Super Bowl Party in Dallas where she chats about how great it is to film her new movie, “I Don’t Know How She Does It,” with february 7, 2011 co-star Sarah Jessica Parker.

  • Abstract a Case Study of Cross-Ownership Waivers
ABSTRACT A CASE STUDY OF CROSS-OWNERSHIP WAIVERS: FRAMING NEWSPAPER COVERAGE OF RUPERT MURDOCH’S REQUESTS TO KEEP THE NEW YORK POST by Rachel L. Seeman Media ownership is an important regulatory issue that is enforced by the Federal Communications Commission. The FCC, Congress, court and public interest groups share varying viewpoints concerning what the ownership limits should be and whether companies should be granted a waiver to be excused from the rules. News Corporation is one media firm that has a history of seeking these waivers, particularly for the New York Post and television stations in same community. This study conducted a qualitative framing analysis of news articles from the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal to determine if the viewpoints expressed by the editorial boards were reflected in reports on News Corp.’s attempt to receive cross-ownership waivers. The analysis uncovered ten frames the newspapers used to assist in reporting the events and found that 80% of these frames did parallel the positions the paper’s editorial boards took concerning ownership waivers. Testimony of Gene Kimmelman, Senior Director for Advocacy and Public Policy, Consumers Union Before the Antitrust, Competition Policy and Consumer Rights Subcommittee of the Senate Judiciary Committee On News Corp./DirecTV Merger June 18, 2003 Washington Office 1666 Connecticut Avenue, N.W. Suite 310 • Washington, D.C. 20009-1039 (202) 462-6262 • fax (202) 265-9548 • http://www.consumersunion.org SUMMARY Consumers Union1 welcomes this opportunity to testify before the Senate Antitrust, Competition Policy and Consumer Rights Subcommittee regarding the proposed merger between the News Corporation (“News Corp.”) and Hughes Electronics Corporation’s satellite television unit DIRECTV (“DirecTV”). Given the current concentration in the media marketplace, as well as the further concentration that will result from the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC’s) recent relaxation of media ownership rules, we believe that the proposed merger between network and cable giant News Corp. and DirecTV, the largest direct broadcast satellite (DBS) service provider, will further increase prices for consumers and decrease the diversity of voices in the media marketplace. Today, consumers are not receiving the fruits that a competitive cable and satellite marketplace should deliver, and consumers are likely to suffer further harm if antitrust officials do not impose substantial conditions on the proposed deal between News Corp. and DirecTV. Since passage of the 1996 Telecommunications Act, cable rates have risen over 50%,2 and FCC data show that satellite competition is not creating downward pressure on cable rates. Despite the promise for more diversity from new technologies such as the Internet and satellite, a mere five media companies control nearly the same prime time audience shares as the Big Three networks did 40 years ago.3 Unfortunately, the market for news production and distribution is becoming more concentrated.

  • Constructions of Deviance and the Performance Of
“WHAT DON’T BLACK GIRLS DO?” : CONSTRUCTIONS OF DEVIANCE AND THE PERFORMANCE OF BLACK FEMALE SEXUALITY by KIARA M. T. HILL JENNIFER SHOAFF, COMMITTEE CHAIR UTZ MCKNIGHT RACHEL RAIMIST A THESIS In partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts in the Department of Gender and Race Studies in the Graduate School of the University of Alabama TUSCALOOSA, ALABAMA 2015 Copyright Kiara Monique Hill 2015 ALL RIGHTS RESERVED ABSTRACT This research interrogates the ways in which Black women process and negotiate their sexual identities. By connecting the historical exploitation of Black female bodies to the way Black female deviant identities are manufactured and consumed currently, I was able to show not only the evolution of Black women’s attitudes towards sexuality, but also the ways in which these attitudes manifest when policing deviancy amongst each other. Chapter 1 gives historical insight to the way that deviancy has been inextricably linked to the construction of Blackness. Using the Post-Reconstruction Era as my point of entry, I demonstrate the ways in which Black bodies were stigmatized as sexually deviant, and how the use of Black caricatures buttressed the consumption of this narrative by whites. I explain how countering this narrative became fundamental to the evolution of Black female sexual politics, and how ultimately bodily agency was later restored through sexual deviancy. Chapter 2 interrogates the way “authenticity” is propagated within the genre of reality TV. Black women are expected to perform deviant identities that coincide with controlling images so that the “authenticity” of Black womanhood is consumed by mainstream audiences.
